    Rightfully so, I received some negative feedback from this video. This was more of a test for me as an amateur. This isn't the correct way to fix things. I will be replacing the tailgate with a solid one of any colour, and repaint it, but properly this time.
    Thanks for watching. In this video/short film, I'm restoring the rear end of my BMW E30 325i wagon. The car is now 30 years old and starting to show it. As soon as I got to Spain, someone hit the rear end in a car park, smashing the rear light. That event motivated me to do spot repair and light change video. Well, this video is a lot more than that. I truly opened a can of worms on this one. The trunk came off and the glass comes out. It quickly turned into a FULL rear end restoration. Grab some snacks and enjoy!

    Few things to point out:
    1. If you have a run in the clear coat, use bondo over the run then sand it with a flat block untill the bondo will disappear. Then polish et voila.
    2. Never spray a car without propper masking. Buy a role of masking foil and mask the rest of the car. Overspray over windows and seals is a pain.
    3. Never paint with the bumper on the car if you want top results and also never paint over areas that are not sanded. You may create hard lines in the paint or poor adhesion that will flake over time.
    4. If you apply rust convertors and/or epoxy primer over metal don't sand through as you voided their point of sealing bare metal.
    5. Try to wash as meany things as you can with water, soap and brushes. I managed to restor number plate lights with vinegar and hot water after. It will eat all the rust away.
    6. If you want to polish orange peel use a flat block with 2000 or higher grid to wetsand and then polish.
    Other than that is a great result for your first part. I love your channel and your work
    I'm not judging you, i'm advising you based on experience as i wish to see the best result possible in the future.

    • @The29041993
      @The29041993 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mercedeslove4291 you can get away with sanding to clean metal, etch primer and or epoxy primer then paint and clear coat. Its better to work with light rust spots than cutting and welding new metal.

    This is the first time I have ever painted a car and car panel, go easy on me! I'm glad to get this one out. It's been my life for the past two weeks. Hunting down parts at the last minute, finding the right paints, finding more rust than I ever expected. It's been crazy. I finally got there, I can now sit down for a second. Enjoy! P.S Apologies for the typos in this video. I'm a one-man band, doing everything can take its toll.

      1. Why didnt, you properly cover your car? Is it learning experience?
      2. That kind of repair of rust holes isn't going to last long. Only metal patches. And you should check for replacement hatch.
      3. You should spray paint those tail lights after polishing with UV resistant clear coat.
      Still it's Your car you can do whatever you want. You are learning to make body repairs?

    although I would recommend cutting out and removing the old and replacing with new metal. This will probably hold up for a couple years. Personally I would metalwork and replace rust with new metal, then a GOOD epoxy primer. it last for a very, very long time. either way, it looks good in the end. Hopefully the flexing the window frame will do, wont break the filler.

    (Just want to clarify that I don't bash you for no reason, I like your other videos very much!)
    #1: Ear protection! My dad told me to be careful about his ears, because he got tinnitus. Guess what? I didn't listen. Now I also have it.
    #2: DO NOT USE STEEL MESH FOR A REPAIR!!! This is the equivalent of chicken wire and bondo. Guess what? No one appreciates having to fix that can of worms it creates, when it prematurely fails. If you're going through all the trouble to repair that trunk, why not do it the proper way? Not saying you're bad at what you do, you do a lot of things in impeccable condition, but this?
    #3: Why no primer at all behind the bondo? It will rust really fast, sadly from inside out this time.

    • @MrHBSoftware
      @MrHBSoftware 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      he wears the protection he finds convenient, thats his problem
      the mesh looks aluminium...yes its not a proper repair, shoud have patched the rotted sections.....
      you are not supposed to use primer before bondo....you apply filler(bondo) to the bare metal, then sand it down,then high buid primer, then wet sand it. then paint...dont comment if have never done bodywork, confusing people with potato logic

    • @Tobberobbe97
      @Tobberobbe97 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@MrHBSoftware How nice of you to not assume I work in a dealership with the biggest bosyshop in the area. Bondo is like a sponge, if it gets any kind of moisture, it will draw in moisture and infect the bare metal. If you want Bondo to survive for decades, you put primer before Bondo, to encapsulate it.
      Besides, how the fuck don't you know that aluminium and metal will corrode due to galvanic flow?
      I live in a country with one of the highest rust rate in the world, so we know what we have to do to keep our cars on the road without having to redo repairs every 2 years.

    • @MrHBSoftware

      @@Tobberobbe97 sure sure...what do you do there?clean the toilets?..first thing first there is no single serious workshop that uses bondo...bondo is a "supermarket brand". maybe if you named it filler , poly filler or polyester putty or something like that....mayyybeee i could take you serious...but no.. SECOND WHEN DID I SAID THAT THE part would not corrode because the mesh is aluminium? what matters if the mesh is steel, aluminium or even made out of wood? the cars trunk will corrode simply because filler cannot be used to cover holes, it cannot be left exposed to air...the mesh doesnt matter, galvanic flow of those 2 parts when incapsulated in filler will take a millenium to corrode the part, forget it....the problem is simply the filler being left exposed behind the repair... you never did professional bodywork that iam SURE

Until you prove you're anything more than a little shit sitting at home with nothing better to do, then you can stay quiet. Speaking of bodywork, aside from working 10 meters away from the body shop, I spend my free time renovating my car.
      And Bondo is just what I call it in English, so it's absolutely irrelevant, you're just fishing for things to argue about.

      @John Smith Rust is very tenacious. If it is only on one surface and you've removed all that you can and treated properly, you may have a chance, but on seams and places where you can't treat the other side (most of the rust seen here) it's going to come back in short time. But kudos for the effort
