I had the privilege of meeting Marcelito Pomoy at a meet and greet in Toronto, Canada on Friday, June 7th and watched him in concert the next day. He took a chair and sat down with my wife and I to chat with us. He is so humble yet seemingly inherently shy. The videos DO NOT DO HIS VOICE JUSTICE. He sounds way better live. MARCELITO POMOY IS THE REAL DEAL. Proud to be Filipino. Cheers from Toronto. VII.
COMPLEXITY: Two notable artists sung their voices by 1 person; not his own language(s) but fluently rendered; the amazing transition of tone (high/low register), not to mention the breathing (singing while sitting); plus, this guy doesn't undergo any formal training as he grew up on the streets! He is indeed a masterpiece!☝
EXACTLY!! Classically trained musicians critique based on what they have learned in studying their particular "craft". I am classically trained, and I will tell you that there is only one word to describe Marcelito... and that is MIRACULOUS!!
You have a very valid point about the breathing, taking a breath in the middle of a word. Trained singers are taught to avoid that. The ironic thing is though, he has no formal singing training. His abilities are all self taught and instinctual. The fact that he sounds this good with no training is, to me at least, astonishing. Plus throw in the fact that he's singing both parts of a male/ female duet, in two different languages; English and Italian. And he's Filipino with a limited knowledge of English. All those factors without any formalized singing training is freaking incredible! So, in my humble opinion, taking a breath in the middle of a word while bouncing back and forth between a male and female can, and should be overlooked when you take into account the bigger picture
To be honest I am also fan from Dimash and while this is not so good perhaps, I keep returning to Marcelito now because it's so warm, calm and charming.
Well said........ I'm sick to death of these voice coaches picking fault with these people........here we have a natural singer a very talented natural singer that hasn't been through the school of you can't do this or you can't do that and that is improper....... and all these people can do is find fault with these natural singers....... I haven't watched the reaction yet, but your comment caught my eye.. It makes me not want to watch this, because I personally always love to hear talented singers/artists in whatever shape or form, but they are not supermen/women.. They will make some 'mistake' at some point, but that's part of the reason why we love them. They are incredible, but are also human, and for those commenting on whatever 'skill' or what not in this video: I dare you to do the same thing he does AND do it better... Sounds easy enough, right?? Lol

Greatest singer in the world 🌍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ SELF TAUGHT, no professional training, lived on the streets in the Philippines at the age of 7 by himself! He has a god-given talent, he is phenomenal!
He told someone that that action at the end was letting the spirit of the female out of his body. He learned how to do this song by copying the original, and doesn't speak Italian or English fluently, so that's why he has their accents. He was on The Ellen Show, where (with an interpreter) he told of living in the Philippine streets from 3 to 18yrs old, and never had any vocal lessons.
Not only is he singing a duet in two languages, but he can barley speak any English and no Italian. So to be precise in his dictation to both languages which might as well both be Latin to him is also amazing.
Marcelito Pomoy need to breath for two singers simultaneously. I can't imagine even the original singers, Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, able to sing anything similar.
I wish “critics” would take into consideration that he is singing a duet by himself, Live, in two different languages and sitting down. Not an easy task.
And neither are his native language. Means he will have his native accent mix in sometimes. Also, he was living on the streets from the time he was seven years old till he was 24. He’s never had vocal coaching, no voice lessons at all.
Don't worry about thinking you come out as mean spirited. Many of us who watch reactions are also looking for vocal teachers who could decipher how he is doing it. For me, this just shows how much effort is being put by Marcelito Pomoy in his solo duet act.
As for Marcelito as a singer, he is excellent in my view already despite that he has never had any singing training and lesson and had won the Philippine Got Talent as a winner. love your constructive suggestion. I'm sure that if he trains, he will get even better at this
Lauren, I appreciate your comments, but the breathing thing seems to me to be a product of his sitting down. I have not noticed it in his standing performances. Remember that he has never had any singing lessons at all. He is a natural singer, who accidentally discovered his talents. I appreciate that you didn't just happify your reaction to him, but had some critical comments to share. But, to us who are not so musically knowledgeable, grant us our love of the sound of his singing and his humble attitude. It is moving in this time of deep trouble around the world.
Tnx again Coach. It's true that Marcelito hasn't learned perfect breathing techniques, I also noticed that. That's because, like most Pilipino singers, is/are self taught, afterall they can't afford to pay Vocal Coaches. Pilipino Singers just rely on their God given Raw Talents and just mimic and/or copy the original singers and practicing it especially thru Videoke (Karaoke) which is found in many households and in every nook and cranny of the country. That's the reason many foreigners believed that Pilipinos are great and talented singers doing their own thing, and Vocal Coaches in the Philippines don't make much as a profession. Most Pilipino singers you find on YT seldom trained by coaches, except those already with celebrity status that coaches are hired to do the polishing and giving some techniques. Tnx Lauren.
@@SingingwithLauren Tnx Coach, but it was not a point of view, its reality in the Philippines and I know because I'm a Pilipino. I think breathing is extremely difficult in this case. When Andrea breathes Marcelito already sings the part of Celine and vice versa. Singing a duet alone probably requires special breathing skills. At the end is Marcelitos joke, when he spits out the woman.
It's a pretty difficult duet sung by a single person in both male and female voice. When Andrea and Celine sang the song, they had time to breath as the lyrics overlaps. Doing it with a single person is IMPOSSIBLE. 99%(if not all) of professional singers and teachers/coaches won't be able to put up a solo duet performance as good as this one.
Hi Ms. Lauren, what Marcelito did at the end of the song was like he's trying to spit the girl out from his body. It's not trying to reset his mouth or exhausted from what he did. He was just joking in front of his fans (outside the bus). anyway, great reaction and observation!
I'm sorry for the voice teacher.... if a normal person without any proper training just like the other says, could do this sort of things, I think he is absolutely like from the other planets! Taking 2 position in 1 song it's not as easy as we say, especially to control your breath...... Nice one Marcelito, wish you all the best! For me... U are the CHAMPION for this act!!
I've heard great singers, classical and pop breath between words. It is not unheard of nor intentional and definitely not tacky in my opinion. It was done innocently to give more room for the next phrase. He could have taken a deep breath before "ezperanza" but the next phrase is going to a higher note and more expressive tone. So for him breathing between this word is quite remarkable, because he was able to produce an anti-climactic effect after it. I've heard Pink's incredible rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow, live, which became viral in TH-cam. I noticed some critics noted too the seemingly "carefree" breathing she used in the beginning, cutting between words too which was unintentional and which gave an effect of innocence as opposed to tacky. I loved her interpretation and so did millions. Oftentimes, technical breathing in singing is not necessary, esp in this case and in Pink's for that matter. He is singing the male and female parts of a song sang by legendary singers, in English and Italian, which he had never spoken. He never had a coach, never studied music and he almost won AGT. Breathing technique could only go so far. Sometimes, all one needs is a natural talent to sing to the whole world.
What a talented person Pomoy is. He is singing Celine and Bocelli’s voice in a language that is not native to him! Thank you for your analysis and cheerful personality.

He won Philippines got talent but I don't remember what year it was for singing a duet of the prayer a woman's voice in a Mans voice in Italian Your reactions are great 💓
If u want to hear his real voice, listen to this th-cam.com/video/qbrGT5JWDas/w-d-xo.html This was a song writer's competition, and his the 1 who interpreted it. So that is his real voice since no other singers sang that song
I believe you may have misunderstood his yawning at the end. Some people have asked him if there is a female trapped inside him, because of his ability to sing at such high range, like females do with more ease. This is only a saying, you may be correct too. But he do smiles like he is kidding :)
Thank you for mentioning the breathing in the middle of words. I understand Italian, so it really stood out to me. Funny how no one else has mentioned it. Thought maybe I was imagining it... You notice things, and you point them out without sounding over-critical. I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for an enjoyable reaction.
You got good comments about singing. It's nice that you pointed out some problems, that makes the reaction more realistic, because I also found the same things and I'm not even a voice coach or a singer. I love to sing and I'm not very good at it so I always observed how good singers do it. I could mimic what they do so I got better at singing, but still not as good as them. I also sing some female songs but I found it hard doing what Marcelito is doing, singing both voices of a duet. You need a whole new level of voice lessons/coaching just to make what he does perfect. Singing doble kara is so underrated...
Please watch MARCELITO's full performance in America Got Talent the Champion 2020 and give your honest and true reactions. His vocal dual voice switching fro. One voice to another is so perfect which no other singers can do that. Please be true on your reactions to him
No worries Lauren.. I just love your reaction. We might not see the technical sides and this maybe negative to others but it's fine.. I'm a Filipino too. And the fact that Marcelito doesn't have any formal vocal training or what not...i understand the things that you notice with him!!!! It's definitely a constructive criticism...😃😃😃💝
i think the song itself is hard when it comes to breathing because of the switches he is doing.. another thing is, marcelito never had a proper vocal training.. he grew up in the streets.. trying to practice a song (by himself) that he heard somewhere (including the accent).. we can say it's pure talent..
I love watching voice coaches react to music, and with marcelito I’ve been watching all day a bunch of videos and only you and one other coach were able to point out things that helps, with you, it’s the relaxed jaw and the other coach is the arm on the table as an anchor since it’s hard to apparently get voice out when you’re sitting down and not standing. I love marcelito but I love the feedbacks you coaches give us casual fans cuz we learn a lot
I recommend a Spanish singer, her name is Diana Navarro. She is a very versatile singer sings different musical styles has a very particular voice that always transmits the song that I recommend is "El perdón" official video clip.
Me my self can also do the duet of the prayer but dang I can really tell breathing in this song is extremely hard and changing from low pitch to high pitch 😂 but marcelito it way better than me because I sing this only in videoke not in any performance 😍 proud Pinoy here 👏
The yawn at the end is something I experience all the time when I spend an extended amount of time singing in mix/falsetto. I’m not sure if it’s just a male vocal thing or not, but I don’t think it was because of the over cover in his baritone section. Just my thoughts 🙂
Contrary to popular belief, English is not a foreign language in the Philippines. English is one of two official languages in the Philippines. This is the reason most official documents are written in English. It is taught from first grade all the way to college level.
Where do you give vocal lessons? like where ate you from???? I subscribed and hit the Alert thingy just because your personality is infectious... not to mention you have the most GORGEOUS eyes ever like yeh this guy and dimash sing better than great but your eyes are the best thing about these videos . So beautiful ❤
Hey Darryl, breathing is THE foundation of singing. If you know anything about acoustics, breath is the generator of the sounds. So while you may not care about it, it is important nonetheless. 🌝
My point was not about the fact that he breathed, kind of have to or you die. My point is that he is doing what very few people that I know of can do so the fact that he breathed in a word is not a big deal where he is concerned. If he was singing with one voice you would have a point but he is singing with two and in my humble opinion, doing a damn fine job. Not trying to tell you your job but felt that was nitpicking.
Hey Lauren you did your job well :) yes his breathing is off but i think to keep Andre's tone he has to.. Marcelito has been doing Celine's voice since he was young he started doing a male opera voice when he was 19 . That yawn at the end Marcelito said he is releasing/spitting out the woman's spirit out of him :)
CHARICE and CANADIAN TENORS - The Prayer . Can you react please !!!!!!!! Love watching your video Lauren . LAUREN IS THE BEST!!!! Thanks for the vocal tips. Vince- Boston Massachusetts here :-)
I have watched numerous "vocal coaches" review this performance and you and one other commented of his improper breathing in the middle of words, which you are correct. However only one vocal coach commented on the fact he was sitting down which I and he suspected forced the early breath. I'm dissappointed that you did not mention this.

I love your reaction as a vocal coach, so professional.
I love singsing of POMOY
In all reactions I had watched only you explained plainly, specially why he pop out his mouth at the end.. You nailed it Ma'am
Do not apologize. You are right
Absolutely Amazing!
Congratulation on much better sound reproduction than on many of these react videos.
Marcelino is Amazing....a duet with himself 😄
and they said it couldn't be done! haha
love your eyes
Me my self can also do the duet of the prayer but dang I can really tell breathing in this song is extremely hard and changing from low pitch to high pitch 😂 but marcelito it way better than me because I sing this only in videoke not in any performance 😍 proud Pinoy here 👏
The yawn at the end is something I experience all the time when I spend an extended amount of time singing in mix/falsetto. I’m not sure if it’s just a male vocal thing or not, but I don’t think it was because of the over cover in his baritone section. Just my thoughts 🙂
Your reaction is very amazing good idea ma'am
Also he is singing in 2 foreign languages.
Contrary to popular belief, English is not a foreign language in the Philippines. English is one of two official languages in the Philippines. This is the reason most official documents are written in English. It is taught from first grade all the way to college level.
Thank for the honest review.....
Seriously...breathing...I don't give a damn. He doesn't need a vocal coach because he sings fine.
He didnt have any vocal lessons, he came from a poor family
Hey Darryl, breathing is THE foundation of singing. If you know anything about acoustics, breath is the generator of the sounds. So while you may not care about it, it is important nonetheless. 🌝
My point was not about the fact that he breathed, kind of have to or you die. My point is that he is doing what very few people that I know of can do so the fact that he breathed in a word is not a big deal where he is concerned. If he was singing with one voice you would have a point but he is singing with two and in my humble opinion, doing a damn fine job. Not trying to tell you your job but felt that was nitpicking.
Please react to TNT boys singing "Listen" in "The World's Best" , and also try reacting to them singing "And I am Telling You". You're welcome💕
Happy New year 😊😊😊.
breathing is like a switch low to high to make it easier and faster. but it will change if he got some bags full of airs.
CHARICE and CANADIAN TENORS - The Prayer . Can you react please !!!!!!!! Love watching your video Lauren . LAUREN IS THE BEST!!!! Thanks for the vocal tips. Vince- Boston Massachusetts here :-)
Hey Vince! Thanks for the sweet comment. I love Boston!! 💗🎶
I have watched numerous "vocal coaches" review this performance and you and one other commented of his improper breathing in the middle of words, which you are correct. However only one vocal coach commented on the fact he was sitting down which I and he suspected forced the early breath. I'm dissappointed that you did not mention this.
I wasn't looking at my monitor and thought it was a girl, and then I tried looking closely to see if it was indeed not a girl
Lol 😂 touché
Thank you for the lessons... Highly appreciate it! =)
You’ve a beautiful eyes ,thats my reaction
