- ■ SRI LANKA, COLOMBO: "Be careful he is a bad man", they kept repeating as I wandered around a vegetable market on the outskirts of Colombo. Then 'the accused' told me that the people who told me to avoid him were bad themselves. Who was I to believe?
Intent on not making a hasty decision I decided to wait it out and see as this was a unique market experience unlike no other.

@@AKNSW I don't know where you're getting your "facts" from but as a fellow Sri Lankan, many people can understand at the very least basic English. We have a literacy rate over 90% whereas India's is in the low 70s (due to the larger population).

Hey Herald, I'm Sri Lankan and I speak both the languages (Tamil and Sinhala). From what I heard the guide at the start doesn't seem like a bad guy at all. He's just maybe half sober. All the others are just friendly people showing their hospitality and doing business. No one tried to cheat/scam you. However I must warn that there are scammers out there.
The women you gave the vegetables to was speaking Tamil and the Sinhala speaking driver didn't understand. She basically just wanted to show you her small son.

Yes, Sri Lanka is very welcoming and safe country to travel. But that area he went to give those donation is bit rough. Not because of they are bad people, it is just the level of poverty make them go bit wild when they see some wealth + generosity.

I am surprised by the level of integrity these vendors have. I thought you would get ripped off when you spend money carelessly. But they all sold you those vegetables for the genuine price. The man that guided you made sure that you get the quality food for the genuine price. The mango seller wanted to keep 100 for himself when you gave him 500.00. But that man guided you insisted him to give you the change. Sometimes you can find the honesty and integrity from strangest of places.

at the end of the video those two women was saying to the auto driver that they have a small kid in the house and they asked the driver to mention that info to Harald..perhaps she was expecting more empathy from Mr Harald.. she was speaking ( Tamil ) the second language in sri lanka tamils are mostly located in the north of the country and around the world, there are lot of srilankan tamils in norway too..on the other hand the auto driver is a sinhalese guy he didn't understand what they were talking about (Sinhala language) which is the main language in Sri lanka.
