    Thank you. The filter is so easily accessible, I will have to start doing this myself. I am especially appreciative of the instruction on how to reset the oil change alert.
    Your son did a great job, too. Reward him with some dark or robust maple syrup. If he thinks the fresh oil is the color of maple syrup, he needs to try the good stuff!

    Good video, but a word of caution, be very careful not to overtighten the oil filter. It screws into a plastic oil cooler assembly which is mounted on top of the motor. Overtightening can cause the plastic oil cooler assembly to crack and that creates an oil leak. The cost to replace the oil cooler assembly runs $800-$1,000 at the dealer. This piece was redesigned starting with all 14 models with the 3.6 and the 3.2 and most of the ones on 14 models will fail on their on. I've already had to replace two oil cooler assemblies on my 14 Wrangler and my wife's 14 Cherokee. There are also torque specs for the oil filter.

    Good job! Just bought my sons who is now stationed overseas. One bit of advice, always rub a thin coat of new oil around any o-rings or seals before installing a new filter. That makes for a better seal and prevents damaging a dry seal when tightening.

    I believe they came with synthetic from the factory..specifically Pennzoil Platimum. Depends on year for weight. 2011 it was 5w-30, the new ones are 0W-20. I just know each year of the pentastar V6 they changed the oil weight, perhaps based on design changes.

    Thanks Lech...our mobile onsite oil change guy is not available. We want to take off on a trip on Monday and just made that decision yesterday. Need to change the oil but I did not want to mess with the oil filter. Why? Because I did not realize the oil filter was on the top of the engine. I used to always change all of our vehicles but this one...long story...but I stopped a couple of years ago because I hated messing with the oil filter...this is so much simpler. You have saved me money.

      @@HowToWithLech QUick update. I did change the oil last night on the 2016. We have the 2016 GC 75th Anniversary Edition. Not sure it is any different. The engine cover on our 2016 has a screw under the center cover which pops off of the main engine cover. It is both a hex bolt and has a star screw. Easy to remove and then only a couple rear snap locations. In this video it had 5 snap locations. All other aspects were identical. It made it so easy not messing with a filter under the Jeep...plus the filter drains off inside the cannister...so was very little mess when taking it out.

    Thanks mate, great video. FYI the procedure is the exactly the same same for right hand drive vehicles. One thing though, the filter is slightly different in my 2012 model. No extended bit at one end with the O-ring, so that filter wont fit the earlier (pre facelift) models. Cheers

    I really like your video and own an WK2 2014, This video is missing a few details like the brake video I started with no worries. The engine should be at a moderate temperature before draining the oil. The oil should be left to drain completely. With the brake video like the oil pan every bolt you remove has a torq specification inch or foot pounds including any aluminum rim. Keep up the great work..I really enjoyed your video's.

If you are watching this video to learn how to change your oil please do not do that with your own vehicle allow it to completely drain out to where it is Flowing no longer!

    I’m pretty small. Has anyone done this without jacking the front end of the car? Or does the jack serve as a win win? I was thinking the oil would drain better with the slight angle. Just some noob questions. Lol

    • @HowToWithLech
      @HowToWithLech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually very good question. Car is pretty high. You should be able to do it without lifting it. But when I lift it I do lower it to make sure drains better. Give it some time to drain. Angle might help too 👊

    What did you do with the old oil

      @HowToWithLech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Put it back in the oil jug/storage and bring to local auto store like Autozone. Can recycle it there for free

    I would never blindly dump in 6 quarts of oil after a change and not check the dipstick. Always check the dipstick after changing your oil. Just my two cents.

    • @HowToWithLech
      @HowToWithLech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      👍 agreed . Normally I’ll leave a quart out . Run engine for a min. before topping off.

    Do you find you find % oil life indicator reliable?
    Doesn't seem like it takes time into account (if car sits for a while).

    • @HowToWithLech
      @HowToWithLech  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Timur Shakya never really tested it to that extent as use car daily. . Still look how many miles drove though. But if car sits for long time probably goood to change .

      Yes good to have the oil warm. Drains out better. But let car cool down a little first so you don’t burn yourself.
