LOL, Arabs are an ethnicity that lives in deserts and wear white robes to reflect the sunlight to avoid getting too hot. Only a complete idiot would consider that fact offensive.
Despite the excess of comedy, and some ridiculous moments, Superman 3 is a very funny movie, and has some great scenes. The next chapter, on the other hand, was a good idea on paper, but it became the most horrific movie ever seen, despite the fact that many of those who saw it when they were very young are still in love with it...
The only good part of the movie is the Superman-Clark Kent fight. The rest of the movie is garbage, typical Richard Lester directed crap like his version of Superman 2.
@@ValiantWrestling I suppose that's your subjective view. The critics considered "Superman 2" to be superior to the first and also rated Lester's version of "The Three Musketeers" highly. I know the critics disliked "Superman 3", which I've always loved, but I know that's my subjective view. I actually think Lester's version of "Superman 2" was largely better than Donner's, if only because Lester removed Donner's lowbrow humor.
I don't think the use of the word Arab in this scene would be offensive to anyone. Saw Superman III in the cinema as a kid, then when it showed on UK TV it was always the extended cut. To this day I struggle watching the official releases due to the many scenes cut being ingrained in my brain from watching it over and over for all those years. Surely one day we'll get an official release. Pity it wasn't for it's 40th Anniversary
As a kid I was a huge Superman fan. But unlike the first two films, this whole movie terrified me. Just the band music at the start of this scene still genuinely gives me chills because it tells me this horrible speech is coming where Gorman just shouts aggressively for 5 minutes, which is really unpleasant. This followed by Superman being poisoned, then evil Superman and all kinds of horrors after, not least Cyborg Vera which is still one of the worst things I've ever seen and did not need to see as a 6-year-old.
That's just a silly scene to cut, and it shows that they don't understand it. Gus is *mocking* his idea of a warmongering US general, he's not espousing the ideas. I wish they'd at least think about things before they cut them to pieces.
We had this VHS tape as a kid which we of course watched on a loop along with Superman I and II. I know it by heart. For the record the 2006 DVD release is what was in the original theatrical release that was on the original VHS tapes too. Maybe it is because I'm used to the original cut but it seemed to me the deleted scenes parts all mess up the flow, were superfluous, and made a maybe too long scene definitely too long. That goes for the cookbook and the "poisonous hot acid raining down" bit after the "saved our bacon" line. The whole scene is a setup for how the villains give him the "kryptonite" they synthesized (plus tar!) which the original cut of the scene did perfectly well. Like most deleted scenes/original cuts, which I really like seeing, it seems the original editor decisions were again the correct ones. As the expression goes, "sometimes more isn't better, it is just more"
So many grew up watching the extended cut on TV, so for them, seeing it without all the deleted scenes is weird. We really need both cuts released. Was hoping for something for it's 40th, alas no.
@@CastlesForEyes totally get that. I grew up on the TV version of Superman I and there are scenes that I cuts of scenes that I expect to be there that aren't which feel more natural to me. I can see why some of them were cut after seeing the theatrical release version but it still feels off when they aren't there.
Superman III is unique because all of the scenes feel like they flow just fine. I saw the extended cut on TV first as a kid. To be honest, I think the only scenes I would have cut out would have been the Tower Of Pisa scenes. Everything else is entertaining all the way. 👍😉
I disagree. The theatrical version lacks some of the best lines ("You know what they called me in high school?", "I know I've just seen you", "I'll think of something", etc). It has some scenes that could be cut out (the see-saw scene, the brain surgeon), but as a whole, I much prefer it, plus it has proper opening credits. The theatrical version seems incomplete.
Another scene that didn't make sense. Had the Kryptonite worked 100%, wouldn't the people there just have got it away from Superman the moment they saw him fall down on stage? And Gus and Vera would have been arrested most likely, thereby exposing Webster as the person behind the attempted murder of Superman?
They were clearly disappointed that it didn't work. I hate it when people like you ruin movies by pointing stuff like this out. Does it make you feel good to ruin other people's movie experience. It sounds like sociopathy. Gus and Vera could probably escape in the panic. The townspeople might provide a description of the perpetrators, but it probably wouldn't yield any results ("so they won't know him so they can't connect him with us").
I remember this on vhs back when i saw it back in 1984 and 10 years later edited out when it was on tv . Sadly over time what was once considered either true or funny or not intended to be offensive ;slowly becomes taboo to Political Correctness.
I remember when this was on TV in the 80s, it had "Edited for Television" written on the screen, and my mother was like, "There was nothing inappropriate in the movie to cut out." During a commercial break, I went into the kitchen where my mother was and said that they added things to it. Dad said that "edited" could mean that things were added. Though, yeah, when "ladies and gentlemen" is offensive, what chance does "Arabs in white robes" have? I much prefer this over the DEI movie they'd make today.
At last this footage has been found and uploaded, thank you 🙏
They really need to release the extended cut of Superman III on blu-ray.
I don't think it was offensive at all but then again I grew up in an era where the phrase "sticks and stones" still applied
I know it's not actually offensive, but because there's some people nowadays who take things so seriously, I decided to put a safety precaution.

Why wasn't there an extended version of superman 3 released, it's a shame.
He didn't die? I asked you to kill Superman and you're telling me you couldn't do that one simple thing.
I love that line. Killing Superman is a simple thing?
