Do you know who Mostafa Hefny was? He was a dark skinned Egyptian who came to America. After filling out job application, he came across the FAKE racial classifications. so he decided to put himself in the “Black” category. However, he was REFUSED to identify himself as “black African” so the company forced him to classify himself as “White.” He sued the company and the U.S government for decades with no avail.
This is why race based on a color is the STUPIDEST concept invented by the western colonial system. Yet here you have brainwashed people thinking it’s “good” to be “proud” of being black when it doesn’t exist outside of the west.
Only tribes, ethnicities, and nationalities are the true identity markers in all of human history.

We Somalis first encountered the term "Black" when we moved to the West in 1990. We observed that descendants of slaves identified with this term. In Africa, where everyone has melanin, we identify with our ancestry, ethnicity, and tribe, specifically as Somali. We noticed that those identifying as "Black" were primarily of West African and Central African descent.
If "Black" were based solely on melanin, then Indians, particularly Dravidians, would also be considered "Black," but this is not the case. So, what does "Black" mean? Africa is the most genetically diverse continent, and North Africans are genetically more related to Somalis than to West or Central Africans.
It appears that "Black" is a term tied to urban culture and heritage, used by people who were stripped of their ancestry and do not know where they came from. These individuals adopted the term "Black" because they lost their specific identities and had to conform to a term created by their slavers, forming a new tribe in the Western Hemisphere, even we started identifying them as a tribe "The Maddows" which translates as the "Blacks" in Somali because Melanin is a brown shade and this tribe in America, the Caribean, and Europe was actually calling themselves "Blacks".
The question then arises: should those of us who know our ancestry and identity abandon it? Should we trade our ancestral identity for this new term, or should we honor and preserve the dignity of our ancestors by keeping their name? My people have been Somali long before the English language existed, before the social construct of race was created, and before race was categorized into Black, White, Yellow, and Red. This caste system, created by Europeans, was designed to oppress other humans. The Cherokee Indians labeled it racist to be called Red Indians, and the Chinese rejected being called Yellow. The only groups adhering to these color labels are the White people, who occupy the upper caste, and their victims, the stolen Africans.
We are Somali and Proud to be outside of the box. 50 years from now, some of your children will argue that society has no genders, and a Somali will have to correct them too.

You are right walaal! How is this a deep issue? We do not let foreigners create a name for us we have our own. We have always been known as SOMALIS it is our REAL name and has cultural, religious, linguistic, historical, genetic, meaning. We do not care about what a foreigner labels us that is their problem. We do not care about other foreigners demanding we adopt it with them. No thanks! That is total cultural subversion and erasure. Why do foreigners care so much?

Masha’Allah Tabarak’Allah for your knowledge. If you look deeper into this, it’s the individuals who have been stripped of their identity, language, and tribes from slavery that heavily use this word; then they want to force this word onto others with brown skin to feel equal! It's incredibly unfair and uneducated.
As you rightly said, the Chinese rejected being called yellow! Is this not enough to show them they are brainwashed? Subhan’Allah!
So what will they say next? Yellow is race. Subhan’Allah!

    Fun fact.
In Somalia, there is no negativity associated with someone calling out your color skin, or hair. In fact, the first president of Somalia was "Aden Adde," which literally translates to "Aden Whitey" or "White."
and if you are too dark like the speaker of parliament who also called "Aden Madobe," which translates to "Aden Black." If someone has a lot of gray hair, we would call them "Cirro," which means "Mr. White Hair."

Race based on a color is a FALSE concept. Ask yourself WHY did European colonials for centuries STRIPPED the history, ethnicity, and language of African diaspora in the west? In fact, the N word means “black” so would you call your ancestors by their name or by the colonial color system?

Once again, do you know who Mostafa Hefny was?

Just a bit of education and correction regarding what was said in the video. Biologically, Somali people (and people from the Horn of Africa generally) are not considered Negroid; they are classified as Caucasoid. However, race is a social construct. Many Somali people I have spoken to identify as black, while others simply identify as Somali or African, as they do not use racial labels in their country (similar to Indians and Asians, who generally identify by their ethnicity). Race is a complex and subjective topic-for example, where do we categorize mixed-race individuals? Race is too complicated and was invented to separate whites from blacks. I respect African people who choose to abandon these labels altogether and identify by their ethnicity.

The DNA of most Somalis carries a sub-clade of the Eb1b1 (Y) chromosome, which has its origins in East Africa and is predominantly found in Somali males. This DNA is over 70,000 years old and is considered one of the oldest branches of the human family tree. It is disheartening to see individuals who possess this DNA and have roots in these lands denying their black race due to the stigma attached to it.
As a Somali man who grew up in London in the early 90s, I had no problem identifying myself as a black African regardless of my skin tone. It is important to remember that even within the white population, there are different shades, and they Also belittle each other based on their whiteness.
Africa did not have these issues until recent times. We did not see each other as different colors because it was irrelevant. However, this changed when white supremacy infiltrated our cultures through those who claimed religious superiority.
It is important to recognize and celebrate the rich history and contributions of Somalia and its people. Somalia, as a region, has a long and diverse history that predates the modern nation-state. The land has been inhabited by various ethnic groups, including the Cushitic-speaking peoples who are considered the ancestors of the Somali people.
Somalia's historical significance can be traced back to ancient civilizations that thrived in the Horn of Africa region. These civilizations, such as the Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, and Egyptians, had interactions and trade relationships with the Somali coast. While it is true that Somali history has been intertwined with the broader African continent, it is also important to recognize the unique cultural and historical experiences of the Somali people.
Somalis have indeed been involved in pan-Africanism and have supported the struggles of other African nations. They have shown solidarity with various anti-apartheid movements, including those in South Africa and Zimbabwe. Additionally, Somali freedom fighters have inspired movements in other African countries, such as the Mau Mau movement in Kenya.
It is crucial to promote understanding, respect, and appreciation for the diverse histories and contributions of African nations and peoples. Rather than feeling shame, it is important to embrace and celebrate the achievements and resilience of black Africans throughout history.
    Peace out 🎤

Somalis are not black. Some of us identify as East African and specifically as Somalis don’t see the issue there! some Somalis may choose to identify as black and that’s all their business. However it is exhausting to see efforts to shame those of us who do not claim a black identity. Our stance is not rooted in any animosity towards black people it is simply that some Somalis do not see themselves as black. The categorisation of Somalis as black was imposed by outsiders by a white colonialists and nothing literally nothing not our DNA nor believes makes us black. frustrates me the most is the sudden insistence from some blacks that we should identify as black. Just as Asians are referred to by their specific ethnicity rather than a generalised "brown people" label we should be recognised as Africans or more specifically, as Somalis. Is this too hard to understand!
Another thing to note is that Somalis are known for being proud and prideful people. When someone tells us that “if we get stopped by the police we will be generalised as a black man or woman” and the fact is we couldn't care less how others see or label us. What matters most is that we know who we are and we will stand by that.

As a black american woman, Oklahoman I'm proud also!!! Everyone nonblack wants to be black. Tanning salons are high with them trying be black. 😆

My thing is did we call ourselves black pre American slavery or did we start calling ourselves after they told those ancestors they were black. I don't see how you can get mad at somebody for going against an ideology created by oppressors.
