I've tried to watch several CSP animation tutorials in the past but always found them either unclear or otherwise not streamlined enough to stay focused on. This one though....Is amazing! For the first time it makes sense to me. Thank you!
I KNOW!! I ran into this issue myself when I was learning CSP (quite a while back, for example, there were no blending modes in clip studio owww), that's why I tried making this tutorial. Then I realized it is pretty hard to make a tutorial that covers all that CSP offers for animation without being unfocused haha but I did my best! So reading your comment really means a lot! The fact that you did this tutorial on an actual animation instead of a classic exercise highlights the humongous amount of work and dedication that came into this video! Never thought of separating all colors on different folders. Gonna try it!
Hi guys! One detail I forgot to explain is how to combine 2 layers in the timeline. For example if you want to reuse part of a drawing, like copying face you already drew, pasting it to a new body in another layer. The way you would do this is using the normal folders trick that I explained. You just place both layers into a normal folder, and make that folder appear in the timeline (by right clicking in the timeline and selecting the folder's name). Then you right click on the folder and merge it down into a single layer. It works for 2 or more layers. Thanks for watching!
I notice at the end of the animation, you render your entire sequence. What animation hot key you press to preview render entire seqyence such as toonbom and other software packages
@@donniejohnson4371 By default there is no shortcut set to preview the animation on the program. You could manually click the 'play' button on the timeline, or go to File > Shortcut Settings > Select the 'Menu Commands' category > under 'Animation' there is 'Play/Stop' > there you can set a shortcut, i use the '-' key. Hope this helps!
I know this video is 2 years old, but DANG! I came just to learn the layout, but the ability to lock a layer to a color is such a time saver for my art style. So many great tips, appreciate it

Thank you so much for this video! I learned more from this past 35 minutes than I have from any other Tutorial I've seen on TH-cam possibly ever. You're a legend! Your teaching style is so clear and concise! And your art is incredible!
this video is not only helpful to animators, its helpful to artists as well! being able to scroll through the render types with the mouse wheel is a feature i ALWAYS wanted and never knew it was in the program already, damn!! thank you so much for this, everything is clear, concise, easy to follow, and your animations are beautiful!
helped so much. especially the "with every line you draw, you're one line closer to your dream" part in the end after so much new information thank you!! ^^
i find it funny how on other tutorials people are in the comments asking lost of questions, but in this video everybody loves you. thats probably a sign of a good tutorial, leaving few confused. great video!
“Every line you draw is one line closer to your dream” When you said this I was working on drawing different styles from cartoons to anime and it inspired me to keep going. It’s been hard for me to keep at my passion since high school as I now have a lot going on. But when I started my journey in my passion I was 9. I wasn’t afraid to try anything so I went from comic books with cartoons to stop motion with legos and transformers to stick figure animation. I grew more eager about the next project I’d do when I’d finished the one I was working on . I remember making a Mother’s Day animation for my mom out of just sketches from my art book for every frame and it took me a month. She wasn’t really happy about it but appreciated the thought. Discouraged some I kept going with my projects one after another. Eventually I got myself into summer film schools and acting when I was in high school. I kept pushing to learn and experiment with different medias to see what I wanted to do as a career . Then the day came when I was to write a paper on my plan after high school and what career path I was going to do. I was tasked to researched all the steps needed for the career and my plan to do it. My heart sank deep when I dug deep into research. Learning that college for animation was not only expensive, but was a requirement to get into a job animating. The schools I looked into had a lot of bad ratings but were the best. I then looked into career opportunities and satisfaction which come to realize , those jobs don’t pay very well in the long run . Most people were not happy with their choice and wished they did something else . I slowly lost hope in my dream as I kept working on my paper for the last report of the year in senior year . I was stressed and anxious about what to do as that was what spent 10 years of my life exploring. I then searched into film schools and production jobs which had more of them problems animation jobs did. I was then given two weeks to move out or get kicked out of the house once I graduated high school . Ever since that time I was carrying this baggage with me about it no inspiration to even think about trying again. For 2 years I just felt hopeless about my dream . In those two years I got married, found a place to call home and now am a soon to be dad. I then got to thinking about my kid and what I want to do with my future as I am only 20 . Yesterday I picked up my pencil and started to draw again. Just doodles when I remembered all the stuff I use to draw . I looked up animation and your video popped up. I started watching it as white noise really as I started to play with my art again to remember my art style . At the end of the video I was happy with my final sketches of my character I use to draw a lot then said , “ this is nice but I’ll never have my dream. “ Funny enough your phrase then was spoken right after of “ Every line you draw is a line closer to your dream” I kinda just sat there for a moment as it happened to bring me to tears thinking about how hard I use to work towards my dream and have no encouragement. All this to say thank you for making this video. The encouragement was something I didn’t expect to hear and was moved by it . I am not sure how I will get back into it by now I’m going to be fearless as I once was before. ( Not being irrational of course but going all in like I use to. Pls never stop being the awesome creator you are . I know so many others get inspired or helped with their dreams by this educational video.
thank u so much for a clear and easy to understand tutorial. i havent found a video that breaks it down so simply and using the terms in digestible ways that shows the viewer where everything u are trying to explain is located.
THANK YOU! I played with animation about 10 years ago and am trying to pick it back up again. This has by far been the best video for explaining the animation tools in CSP. Thank you for the great content! You have a new subscriber. 😉
Thanks for making this video! I know Clip Studio EX has amazing tools for 2D animation especially in Anime production, but I felt like I could never understand until I saw your video. Thanks for making this a very clear step by step video!
Man, I saw this video a couple of months ago and I saved it bc i didn´t have enough time to switch to CSP and now that I come back I find it suuuuper useful, mostly the little details about the tools and the working space. You don´t know how much gratitude I´m feeling right now, sincerely thank you so much
animating in clip studio paint has always been daunting to me but this video really helped to break it down so that even I understood. Fucking amazing video dude, hope more people will recognize your talent and help. that ending quote about how every line is one step closer to my dream was an increeedible motivator, it's something i really needed to hear, appreciate it so much
Thanks for taking the time to write this Gamern't, this comment is also an incredible motivator for me. Really appreciate it! And of course, thanks for watching!
Thank you for actually teaching through animating because all the other ones i watch it feels like I don't learn much because there not trying to animate something just doing circles and lines
I saw your aniamted short film and I'm so blown away with how good it is! Been wanting to replicate those camera movements as well, and your video has helped me on how it can be pulled off! Also, one thing that has helped me way too much for animating are vector layers. It's helped me so much with the lineart and coloring, since area scaling sometimes bleed past the linework.
I have never seen a more helpful tutorial than this one! Thank you so much for your hard work! You explain so many things that I never understood from other videos!! Now on to animating! :D
Been getting into animation for few months but this tutorial has been helpful still watching it. One of the best! Really clear and to the point! Love how you explain how it works makes me understand it a bit more
Have to say, you are the only one so far, thank you for taking the time to shiw where the tools you are talking about are located!!!! Most tutorials I find assume you already know all the shortcuts and what they are called. Great tutorial and a million thanks!!!!❤❤❤
This was so helpful! :O Usually I find clip studio tutorials hard to understand but this was so simple! I think I’ll finally be able to make the move from flip a clip to clip studio! 🙏
The animations folder is great! After you create a single folder inside the animation folder with the template you want, you can actually just click the new animation cel (in the timeline) as you would normally and it'll automatically follow the template including the names too without needing to duplicate.
Additionally, there's also an "Animation cels" window (Window > Animation cels) that shows each of the layer inside each foldered frames. This is the same window used for light tables. It wasn't mentioned in the video although I assume you'ved use this feature, light table is super useful when you want to trace out things but they're in a different place. Light table temporarily moves the layers you want to onion skin for the purpose of tracing/inbetweening.
Absolutely! I seldom use them so I didn't want to make the tutorial more complicated, but I'll definitely add an explanation of the Light Table function when it is needed on my next videos! Thank you for adding this!
@@ManuMercurial Thank you so much!! There's not a lot of in depth tutorials out there, and definitely would be pretty cool learning from someone who has tons of experience using it professionally!
I've been wanting to learn CSP animation to make some animated Twitch emotes, and it was so confusing but this video helped TONS! I'll definitely be re-watching as I go through the process myself.
thank you SO much for this video. i cant find any csp animation tutorials that i liked/understand that i just gave up months ago and just stick with illustrations. then, i just got recommended this video out of nowhere and decided to give it a try. i'm glad i did even though i hesitated thinking it was a waste of time. again, thank you for your hard work!
Finally I can start animating in Clip Studio, everything is I ever asked for that is no other video is just in this, Im'ma keep watching this multiple times so I can understand how to animate more. Thank you soo much Manu!
Thank you for this, the other clipstudio animation tutorials were so difficult to understand and three times longer than this video. This was concise and actually worded this in a way that was easy to understand.
A real step-by-step beginner tutorial. Thank you so much! Even though I am quite lost in the folder part, I am going to watch it again, because the info is there. I can't wait to watch the post-production video and how to manage all the PNGs.
Hi Walter, thank you for watching the video! I'll copy an answer I gave before that hopefully helps to explain the folders bit: What I did is: instead of setting my animation folder to show an animation cel (which is a single layer), I set it to show a normal folder (which can contain several layers inside). That way you can have several layers On at the same time, inside a single animation folder, and even turn them on and off whenever you want. The other thing I did was to use the 'Change layer color' button to force the layers to only draw in a single color of my choosing. That way I don't need to change the color i'm drawing with (I will always draw with black) but the layers will show a different color when I draw on them. I hope this helps!
I am so freaking glad this tutorial was shared to me. Absolutely THE BEST most comprehensive one out there for new tips I didn't know about, decent and quick break downs of each section from start to finish. Thank you so much!
This is probably the most insightful video on csp I’ve seen! I currently have CSP ex version on the iPad Pro and it looks doable to make some stuff on it. Can’t wait to share my projects God willing!
I was struggling learning CSP animation and your video was so helpful. I can hear your passion and joy using this program. Thank you so much for clearly explaining your process. You're very talented. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to learning more from you.
This is Truly the best tutorial For CSP I have Ever seen and look foward to more! It is so incredibly complicated the way you do it but it just makes the Whole process Easier and More Cleaner in the END especially for beginners, THANK YOU!
I love her. Funny I was looking for tutorials on this as I tried using it but got frustrated and went back to toon boom, but this made it a lot easier to understand, I'll be sure to take another crack at it!
This one of the best CSP tutorials I have seen on animation. I too love to animate frame by frame and I use CSP for all my animation work. I'll admit that you lost me at the complex folder bit where you created folders in your timeline to add shadow layers but I'll just rewatch the video to get what you were saying. I can't thank you enough for sharing your process with us, I look forward to learning more from you in the future. 😃😃😃😃😃 In the mean time, have a like and subscribe from me! 😍
Thank you so much Dick LivixPrime! What I did is: instead of setting my animation folder to show an animation cel (which is a single layer), I set it to show a normal folder (which can contain several layers inside. That way you can have several layers On at the same time, inside a single animation folder, and even turn them on and off whenever you want. @@ManuMercurial Ok. After my second round of watching this... I have to say that you know Clip Studio really well! I understood how you used those folders in the animation folder. I feel like it clutters the workspace a bit but if it helps you stay organised, then go for it! I'm amazed that you achieved this level of polish in the final without moving to After Effects for post production (Looking forward to that video, btw!!!😍😍 ) Anyways, keep doing what you do best!
Man, you saved my life Loved your video; perfectly explained and detailed covering all of the essentials of the app, just what everyone needed to start animating in CSP
I feel you! I once felt like that for a long time, I also waited for a while for someone to push me into the water.. In my experience it never happened, you just gotta JUMP! And to tell you the truth it is going to suck at first, but you'll also learn the most valuable lesson I have probably learnt... Nothing happens when you make a bad animation, nobody dies and especially nobody cares. You just make the next one and make it a little better, and then the next one and the next one! I do hope you decide to jump in too and get to experience this, cause even though it sucks at first, one day you'll look back at all you've grown and KNOW you can do anything!! I think its the wonderful thing about animation, anything that is on your head can come to life, all you need is to imagine it, and then draw it. Best of luck!
Thank you for the tutorial! All the CSP animation tutorials I have watched in the past have not done a good job explaining what the program can do. This is the first time I feel like I can use the program correctly!
I'm still waiting for that post production video! I've been working on an indie project that isn't finished yet, and it would be awesome if that next video came out sometime this year hopefully
Glad to hear Whalesters. The post production video will 100% be released this year (as I've already recorded most of the material), but you'll notice I'm starting with more beginner friendly topics and moving up the chain. This way I can always reference back past videos if people have questions. Wish you the best of luck with your project! And don't worry, the Post video is not far off!
I had watched so many tutorials on how to animate in Clip Studio, but just couldn't understand, I just left it at that I'm dumb. But with your video i understood so much! Thank you so much
Wow!!! This video is so helpful. I already knew the basics by just playing with the program but you gave me really good advice on keeping my layers organized and using keyframes. I'll be waiting for the post-production tutorial eagerly. ¡Muchas gracias!
Man, I always wanted and still do want to animate in Clip Studio Paint, but don't have the necessary equipments to. I will just work on where I am animating and hope to get better at it. Anyways, awesome video!
this vid got me actively hype to use clip studio to animate (i’ve never used csp to animate before, just other software) and i can’t wait for your next videos you mentioned!
Bro... I was expecting a tutorial like this for years! Most of the stuff you teach I did already find them out there (like the multilayer folder frames used in anime, for example) but I know this is going to be super useful to a large group of people. Thanx so much for charing this magic.
This is the first time I can understand a CSP animation tutorial! I also watched your short film and you're so good! Thank you for all the tips and tricks!

You have NO idea how long I've been searching for the "using animation folders like a pro" explanation!
Thank you so much for this video! I learned more from this past 35 minutes than I have from any other Tutorial I've seen on TH-cam possibly ever. You're a legend! Your teaching style is so clear and concise! And your art is incredible!
this video is not only helpful to animators, its helpful to artists as well! being able to scroll through the render types with the mouse wheel is a feature i ALWAYS wanted and never knew it was in the program already, damn!! thank you so much for this, everything is clear, concise, easy to follow, and your animations are beautiful!
helped so much. especially the "with every line you draw, you're one line closer to your dream" part in the end after so much new information
thank you!! ^^
i find it funny how on other tutorials people are in the comments asking lost of questions, but in this video everybody loves you. thats probably a sign of a good tutorial, leaving few confused. great video!
This comment really really means a lot to me! Thank you!!
“Every line you draw is one line closer to your dream”
When you said this I was working on drawing different styles from cartoons to anime and it inspired me to keep going.
Funny enough your phrase then was spoken right after of “ Every line you draw is a line closer to your dream”
I kinda just sat there for a moment as it happened to bring me to tears thinking about how hard I use to work towards my dream and have no encouragement.
Thank you very much! I've used clip studio for drawing but now trying to do animation on it, this helps a lot!
thank u so much for a clear and easy to understand tutorial. i havent found a video that breaks it down so simply and using the terms in digestible ways that shows the viewer where everything u are trying to explain is located.
You're very welcome! So glad it was helpful!
Thank's Bro, your video is very helpful for me..!
THANK YOU! I played with animation about 10 years ago and am trying to pick it back up again. This has by far been the best video for explaining the animation tools in CSP. Thank you for the great content! You have a new subscriber. 😉
Thank you for your message Heather! I wish you the best of luck getting back into it, hope you have a lot of fun! And welcome!
You don´t know how much gratitude I´m feeling right now, sincerely thank you so much
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and to write this Alled! Wish you the best of luck in your art journey. LETS GET IT!!
animating in clip studio paint has always been daunting to me but this video really helped to break it down so that even I understood.
I feel you! I also want to focus on each step in separate future videos, to be able to cover more on each of them. Thanks for watching!!
I am so glad you explained the folders well because I never knew how to get my layers to actually show up! Thank you!
that layer color function is insane. big W CSP
6 minutes in and this mogs both of the other tutorials on YT I've watched so far.
Great tutorial and a million thanks!!!!❤❤❤
man this tutorial is the best . so clearly explained . thank you so much.
Happy to hear that Devil Peter! Best of luck with your animations!!
Muchas gracias! Me alegra mucho este mensaje. Vamos con fuerza!!
This was so helpful! :O Usually I find clip studio tutorials hard to understand but this was so simple! I think I’ll finally be able to make the move from flip a clip to clip studio! 🙏
When you colored the layers. My mind was blown, I need clip studio art now just for that.
I'm like 7 minutes in and I've learned more about the program just now than in the 2 years I've owned it for...
This tutorial saved my ass while trying to streamline my rotoscoping process 😭 Thank you!
thank you SO much for this video. i cant find any csp animation tutorials that i liked/understand that i just gave up months ago and just stick with illustrations. then, i just got recommended this video out of nowhere and decided to give it a try. i'm glad i did even though i hesitated thinking it was a waste of time. again, thank you for your hard work!
Thanks so much Mori! Hope to see your illustrations come to life in animation soon!!
Finally I can start animating in Clip Studio, everything is I ever asked for that is no other video is just in this, Im'ma keep watching this multiple times so I can understand how to animate more. Thank you soo much Manu!
Great to hear! Best of luck!!
Thank you for this, the other clipstudio animation tutorials were so difficult to understand and three times longer than this video. This was concise and actually worded this in a way that was easy to understand.
found this through clip studio paint :) it was really good!
Thank you so much!
I didnt know about the Folder trick! I was pulling my hair out trying to always re-enable layers to animate it or even copy pasting existing layers.
A real step-by-step beginner tutorial. Thank you so much! Even though I am quite lost in the folder part, I am going to watch it again, because the info is there. I can't wait to watch the post-production video and how to manage all the PNGs.
Hi Walter, thank you for watching the video!
I'll copy an answer I gave before that hopefully helps to explain the folders bit:
What I did is: instead of setting my animation folder to show an animation cel (which is a single layer), I set it to show a normal folder (which can contain several layers inside).
That intro is a bop
Thank you!! Can't wait to release the full version!
I am so freaking glad this tutorial was shared to me. Absolutely THE BEST most comprehensive one out there for new tips I didn't know about, decent and quick break downs of each section from start to finish. Thank you so much!
Thank YOU for checking it out Rin! Best of luck animating your lovely characters!! 💪
This is probably the most insightful video on csp I’ve seen! I currently have CSP ex version on the iPad Pro and it looks doable to make some stuff on it. Can’t wait to share my projects God willing!
Man this is probably the BEST tutorial I’ve seen on CSP!
Thank you for this video, seriously, it's one of the most comprehensive animation in CSP tutorials I've watched and is helping me a lot!
I was struggling learning CSP animation and your video was so helpful. I can hear your passion and joy using this program. Thank you so much for clearly explaining your process. You're very talented. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to learning more from you.
came for the knowledge, stayed for the amazing delivery of it.
hahaha this truly means a lot Sabre Pilot, thank you!!
This is Truly the best tutorial For CSP I have Ever seen and look foward to more! It is so incredibly complicated the way you do it but it just makes the Whole process Easier and More Cleaner in the END especially for beginners, THANK YOU!
Your tutorial is amazing, super useful and easily understandable! I really appreciate that you spent you time on this ❤
Easily the best CSP animation tutoiral ever
The layer color trick is genius. It's by far the most useful thing I learned in this video (and there were a lot of great tips too). Thank you!
I love her.
Funny I was looking for tutorials on this as I tried using it but got frustrated and went back to toon boom, but this made it a lot easier to understand, I'll be sure to take another crack at it!
I finally got CSP and everything looks pretty clear. Thank you for making this video!
This is really awesome! I just got csp pro edition for game development related 2d character animations and your workflow looks great for it
This one of the best CSP tutorials I have seen on animation. 😃😃😃😃😃
In the mean time, have a like and subscribe from me!
The other thing I did was to use the 'Change layer color' button to force the layers to only draw in a single color of my choosing. That way I don't need to change the color i'm drawing with (I will always draw with black) but the layers will show a different color when I draw on them.
I hope this helps!
@@ManuMercurial Ok. After my second round of watching this... I have to say that you know Clip Studio really well! I understood how you used those folders in the animation folder. I feel like it clutters the workspace a bit but if it helps you stay organised, then go for it! I'm amazed that you achieved this level of polish in the final without moving to After Effects for post production (Looking forward to that video, btw!!!😍😍 ) Anyways, keep doing what you do best!
this is the most precise, concise, no bullshit CSP animation tutorial ever. Thank you very very much
Really appreciate your kind words, thanks for taking the time to watch it!!
You are a legend in teaching thank you very much I learn whole software in just half hour .
You are cool
Best and clearer video to explain how to animate with Clip Paint Studio !
You've done an AMAZING job ! Thank you !
Man, you saved my life
Loved your video; perfectly explained and detailed covering all of the essentials of the app, just what everyone needed to start animating in CSP
Glad it helped! Can't wait to see the animations you'll create!
This is brilliant.Thank you so much. Definitely new sub!!!!!!!!!!!
Welcome Two-MoonZ! I really appreciate it!!
Very useful tips, thanks !
Gamechanger, to put a folder onto the animation tab! wow - thank you for this phantastic trick!!!
I'm looking forward for the rest of the animation videos you have planned. I really dream of animating but don't know where to start
Now this is something I've been looking for. Lots of other tutorials ive seen from a long time ago didn't cover much. But this does.
Dude you're seriously my hero! I couldnt find a good animation tutorial for clip studio.
Thank you for the tutorial! All the CSP animation tutorials I have watched in the past have not done a good job explaining what the program can do. This is the first time I feel like I can use the program correctly!
Thank you ParadeOfTune, I'm glad this was helpful!
Thank you so much
So glad to hear Emely! Thanks for watching!!
Oh my gosh you're my hero, this is so amazing at explaining how Clip Studio handles animation and the animation itself is so high quality!
thank youuu Slipy! For taking the time to watch the video and your kind words!
Dude this is the most comprehensive yet fun video I’ve ever seen on cs animation. Thanks a million!!!
Thank you Vic Rose! Can't wait to see what you'll animate with it!
THANK YOU SO MUCH. IM ABOUT TO USE THESE METHOD RIGHT NOW. I was struggling with clip studio sm but because of you I can do it now!
this vid got me actively hype to use clip studio to animate (i’ve never used csp to animate before, just other software) and i can’t wait for your next videos you mentioned!
Wow you really did an amazing job! It really looks cute and so fluid
Finally another How To video for CSP animation. Well done!! This taught me a lot of new tricks!
Glad I could help!
I'm digging this, thank you man. Lot's of video out there but this is just the perfect set of knowledge being shared catefully.
One of the easiest to understand CSP animation tutorials I've seen! Thank you so much for making this!!
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching it!
You're very welcome! Thank You for watching!
