    THIS IS AMAZING. You just convinced me to be smart and future-proof my canvas for future beautiful projects instead.

      This was a tricky one to do, because it tends towards 'opinion' more than fact, but I tried to keep to the -logical- reasons I would prefer clients not get little script-stickers... I sure hope it helps at least a couple of artists from having to do them. :)

      @@PennyBlackTattoo You balanced opinion and logic quite well; you presented the facts of what the body does to ink, and why script isn't normally conducive to a good-looking tattoo. And as an amateur calligrapher, script is hard enough on paper, let alone on a 3d canvas.

    I feel like I'd like to have videos like this playing in our waiting area to educate clients ❤

      Thats a little why I originally did these videos. I found that, for basic 'FAQ' kinda information, there was nothing but bad-advice echo chamber groups like 'inkpower' on facebook and crap like that-- and 'tattoo information' on youtube is 99% "how to tattoo" videos. Blar. I really need to get back on this series. I also have to get around to taking these down, as Pennyblack has been closed for several years. :D

      @@Zombosis it's so hard to explain these things, esp to ppl who don't want to hear it.... the people want what they want! I'd love to see more videos like this! I hope whatever you're doing now is even better than what you were doing before 😊😊😊

    I’m looking for a certain font, celtic? I’m not sure but I’ll know it when I see it. I’m getting Mjolnir on my wrist. Any help is appreciated.

    I'm about to get my third script tattoo in the typewriter font, so I watched your video to kinda give my self a refresher on the do's and do not's. I got my first one 4 years ago, and I can't tell if it looks any different than when I first got it done. I'm so glad I listened to my tattoo artist and went with a larger size font with a little extra spacing. I think you make a great point about how font tattoos need to be done for the sentiment rather than the look... Because who knows how it will look on a body in 20 years. But I think placement might also be a factor. I got all of mine on tight skin that doesn't see much daylight or friction, and I think that may make a difference as well. What do you think?

    What are your thoughts on script tattoos in the typewriter font?

      As a general rule, thats what I try to guide clients towards. Clean, basic lines-- they aren't immune from the ravages of time, but they are resistant to them. :)

    How big should it be at minimum for a short phrase? I was thinking of getting "All around is stone" on my left inner forearm, close to my elbow and "All is soft inside" on the right inner forearm near the elbow. I'm a pretty skinny girl lol so there isnt much space to begin with. It's only 4 short words on each side.

    • @Zombosis

      The answer will always be, "as big as you can possibly make it". The larger the script, the longer it will take for the realities of tattoo distortion to kick in. Some things just can't be avoided, however.

    My script tattoo will be a forearm piece. So that will age better then a little one? How long will it be before I need to get it touched up/blurred

    • @PennyBlackTattoo
      @PennyBlackTattoo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's no set guarantee on how long; there are so many different factors that will have an impact- how good/experienced your artist is with fine line, what equipment they use, what groupings they us, the font you choose, how many words are in the phrase, how big each letter is, how much sun you get, how physical your job is... So many factors. Bottom line though-- the bigger each letter is, the longer it will take for the ravages of time to render the tattoo illegible. So either get it small *knowing* it's got a limited time looking crisp in the skin, or make it as huge as you possibly can. :)

    Do you mean script as in literally script or print/statements in general?
