The Kei Car market is definitely a strange one. With cars like the Honda Beat and the Autozam AZ-1 they are hard to ignore when you come across them at your local car show. However this one in particular really caught my eye due to just how modified it was. This Suzuki Cappucino has a fully built motor, upgraded turbo, incredible suspension setup and so much more. Just when you thought a rear wheel drive car couldn't get smaller than the MX-5 Miata the Suzuki Cappuccino makes that look like a pickup truck in comparison. It also comes with a very strange T-top, Targa, AND convertible conversion built into the car which is something I've never seen before. So how does it drive? Let's find out. Thanks for watching!

For all those asking where the 12k in mods went its basically this:
Built head to include valves, springs, retainers, cams
Custom tubular exhaust manifold
Upgraded turbo
Injectors
TEIN coils with Swift springs
Cusco 2 WAY LSD
various suspension bits
About 2 grand in DEFI gauges
All associated labor for install of above parts plus wiring.
The 3 cylinder, 5 cylinder, 3 and 4 rotors, some of the best engine noises come from uncommon engine configurations.
Is it like on initial d where takumi's dad tells him " the real power doesn't come on till 11,000 rpm" lol
"make sure to rev it up to 11k" the powerband is prob 8-11k rpm and he couldnt drive it at first cuz tachometer only had 8k on it...

I actually just saw a Cappuccino in person at a car show this past weekend. It absolutely blew me away at how tiny it was. And now after seeing this video I'm completely sold... I'm going to need one of these.

I think the 0-60 time is pretty valid since you can't go much faster on mountain roads anyways.

the only tuning company that makes a spoiler for this car is 1k. lol but honestly, i dont think i'll buy it, id probably go the same route with a "decent" spoiler that fits with custom mounts.

I own both an NA Miata and the Cap, the cap is by far the most fun to drive because of the turbo and its size. The NA is the best for handling and track especially with their double-wishbone suspension setup
Would you mind briefly explaining why? From my understanding NA motors are more responsive or easier to manage ?
The Cappuccino has double wishbone also.
A couple of things.
The reason why you can do "t-tops" mode isn't for any reason other than the top had to be in three pieces to fit in the area they had available for the trunk. The t-tops mode just happens to be a fun side effect.
I own a cappuccino. They do not weigh 1200lbs. Stock they weigh right around 1600lbs. I know this because I put it on a scale myself.
I'm not sure if anyone else has had this issue lately but for the past week or so my subscriptions to Thatdudeinblue and a few others have been I'm not SUBSCRIBED when I have been subscribed since early 2015 TH-cam needs to fix this cause I'm tired of feeling as if the people I support are being screwed over by the algorithm keep up the great work David!!!!!

@@big_ostrich_egg7287 Yeah there is no way this one is 1200lbs. You can shave about 50lbs out by removing the spare tire and AC...but otheriwise this car is pretty much stock weight...so maybe 1520lbs.

I helped him out, he imported a *forgot the year but old) mini cooper from Japan, that broke down near Oakwood, GA, not sure if he remembers me but I lended you my ratchet, gloves, and headstrap light, also met Patterson before, don't know he remember me as well, while helping him out, one of his frends brought that same exact cappucino, looks really nice

Cool little car man , what was the tq? , I used to see similar stuff in Korea. I think the style of the S2000 would influence me if i was putting that car together, for instance a an s2000 style spoiler on that car would look good especially as a vert. My opionion.
Im a die hard Honda fan. But watching this holy shit man, this is the best car ever weather you wanna race it, stance it, or just have a nice car to cruise around in. 10/10 for sure!

What mods do you recommend first for upping the top speed for highway?
It's pronounced "Kay" (NEVER NEVER EVER "KEY Car" lol)
and it comes from the Japanese word "Keijidousha" which basically means "light automobile". Best thing about having a Kei car in Japan is you don't have to prove you have a parking spot, like you do with "normal" cars.

Love cappuccinos! Have a a few. You can buy bolt on kits for these motors to get up to 120whp easily for around $1500 Not sure why he only has 100hp.. The car weighs 1500lbs. Gas tank should be 6 gal. 40mpg. Either way glad to see Kei "Kay" cars getting more popular!

I'm really trying to get one of these next year. I've always loved kei cars but this past year i absolutely fell in love with them and I'm gonna try my hardest to get a Captino!
I bought one earlier this year, and I regret nothing. I'm 6'3" and I have almost 2 inches of headroom. It's a wonderful little car, surprisingly comfortable and nice inside.

@@Osprey1994 THIS. I'm not really into cars, but I'm pretty sure a tiny motor rated for 65hp isn't going to take well to being pushed. Even if you throw plenty of money into it! I saw another video where a few Europeans threw an SR20DET into one. That seems even better.

These factory turbo engines actually can take a bit and forged can be pushed quite hard for what they are.
Obviously still won't be making big numbers but the cars also weigh 1600 pounds so they get a decent power to weight ratio going.

Liked the Autozam AZ-1 but this is also beautiful (like Supra IV, Mazda MX 5 baby sort of). The only little nag I have and that is probably never going to change is that the steering wheel is on the "wrong" side. And I guess a conversion might be impossible or just throwing money into a blackhole...

Can't beat the sound of a "motorcycle" engine from a car! And I imagine it would drive a lot better, any help in the torque department for those smaller engines in a welcome addition. I can't imagine how hilarious those are to drive. The smallest car I have ever driven was a Suzuki Alto back in the Netherlands (company car). That was 800cc's of 3 banger FURY! Still managed to put the speedo needle past 150 though... It was sketch... My 1985 Peugeot 305 was a luxury car in comparison!

If it's genuinely 1991, then it was more likely red or silver originally. There was an earlyish "Limited" version - CAXF-SA - in blue but not IIRC until some time after 1991. It was notable for having a wood-effect dash. A second "Limited" version - CAXF-SB2 - also in blue, had electric power assisted steering (EPAS) and cloth suede-effect seat coverings. Then a third "Limited" - CAXF-SC2 - in black, also with EPAS and a carbon effect dash. IMHO, the Limited versions are the ones to look out for. Mine is an SB2. It also has ultra-rare Sukuki Sport wheels in anthracite grey. EPAS makes low speed manoeuvring a pleasure.
LSD (limited slip diff) was standard on a couple of "high spec" versions, CAXF-BA & CAXF-BA2 and, IIRC, as a factory fit option on (some?) other models. It's actually pretty rare. I have seen many Cappos up close but never knowingly one with LSD.
Whichever one you buy, make sure you fit a strut brace up front if not already fitted. It will noticeably tighten up the handling.
