Fantastic, that your families are creating this together! I was raised on a farm in Alberta & still crave this lifestyle. Currently, I do what I can to grow & preserve food in my urban home. Thanks for being an inspiration to many! 🤗🇨🇦
Still following you at Rosalia’s Mexican Restaurant in SC! Started following you when I was going through a very hard time mentally and emotionally. Dealing with a LOT of anxiety. You inspired and encouraged me. Despite failure. Despite defeat GET UP! Make it happen. I went from sitting in an apartment to now being a land owner (around 50 acres total now). It’s still hard every day but I’m IN THE FIGHT. EVERY DAY! Thanks be to God for putting YOU in front of ME! May your family be blessed. May your fields and orchards and vineyards be blessed. May you prosper and inspire and teach. May you also learn. May peace rule over you all the days of your long life. In Jesus Name. Amen.
We bought an old ranch home a couple of years ago on two acres with the thought that if our grown kids and their families needed a place to live they can come here. You were our inspiration for doing so. We upgraded the junction box, replaced all the water lines and gas lines, repaired the pole barn and small outbuilding, put in a carport by the side porch as use to sit, cook outdoors, and park the vehicles away from hail, heat, snow, and ice, put in a hidden storage area for food, water, and firewood, installed gfci plugs, and put in a new water heater. We are not off grid, but it is the best we knew how to do in our seventies. The carport that was built adjacent to the house was taken in as living space and if needed can be made into three additional bedrooms. We are ready for anything that comes our way. We are surrounded by rivers for water. Thank you Shawn for your educating us these past few years on how to be self reliant.
I've purchased 43 acres, installing multiple wells, solar systems, ground tube -a/c heating, and bio gas for cooking and hot water. Fish ponds, food , fruit orchards, and already producing commercial crops.
Good luck Shawn! What an smart move. You have grown in significant ways while also overcoming numerous challenges. Way to adapt. Thanks for the update!
😆😆🥰 Sounds like you are building a new ‘JAMES TOWN’ Shawn! Oh, I would love to be at your age and living this dream! My husband George and I used to have dreams like this when we were young….but now, at 74 years old…..I vicariously live out those dreams by watching you. ❤️🥰
Congratulations on your new homestead , that’s awesome ! Cali is happy now and with the new homestead, and family community she will be even happier 😍🐕
Wonderful! I'm preparing to move out to our family cabin on land that has been in our family for over 100 yrs. It is on 90 acres in the Cherokee National Forest area and I am so happy to learn everything you show us! I won't have livestock, but I do hope to have chickens and a food garden as well as putting an off grid tiny cabin on the upper end of the land for family. So excited to finally be able to move into nature and be self-sufficient!
You saw in the future you had to do something to protect your family. That is what a man does. Goes after what is needed to protect his family. You’ve done a brilliant job! I know your family feels safe. God bless you and fam♥️✝️
Ive been watching this channel for many years enthralled with what you were doing and hoping someday i could take a similar path. My wife and I with our youngest son fly out in 2 days to spend 1.5weeks looking at 50+ acre properties to start our homestead on. Nervous? SO NERVOUS, somehow happy and excited about the potential of leaving a 25+yr career with great pay and benefits to live closer to the land and with far less reliance on others to ensure my family has food. Your channel and a few others like Simple living Alaska have been my happy place for so long while i live most of my life in the concrete box dreaming of one day doing that as well. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through your videos and one things for sure ill still be watching in what little time i have between chores/projects as we build our homestead! Much love from Florida (my hell on earth weather wise) soon to be northern Maine!

Hey Shawn, Maybe do a tie in with the show Barnwood Builders on this old cabin ? They would (no pun he he ) likely be interested in this property if it need any attention or repairs... Cali seems to approve of the place !
Regarding Solar... In the future I would go adjustable ground mount, with either the new Midnite 12KW AIO or the EG4 18k and build out the batteries as diy to save money from basengreen or if you need self heating batteries buy Ruixu. Best bang for the buck

Hi Shawn,
I know you're trying to explain what you are doing with your channels and homesteads but I think that you're missing just a few details that would really clear things up.
For example you mentioned that your cabin isnt going to be the main residence, maybe a family compound if it needs to be... does that mean you have another cabin/home elsewhere? If so have we seen any of that property ? Is that where the larger vegetable garden and chickens are located? Is your cabin now just a secondary building which is why your not in a hurry to build the main bedroom extension or at least not showing that? Is Emily's cabin on one of your properties or does she have her own property?
I had a better understanding of what was going on at the last cabin as you were very clear about what you were doing and how it was laid and the overhead drone shots were great too.
No matter what you choose to share with us its great viewing and very interesting as we can't do anything like this where I'm from in Australia.
And how is Emily going with her concussion recovery? Last update I saw she was still experiencing symptoms. Hopefully she's sought further opinions on the injury, as long term concussion issues aren't great

This is like returning to the times of early settlers in a new land. Very traditional..
I like the name 'Our Self Reliance'. It makes sense to me.
I always thought that your "My Self Reliance" channel was all about Cali and you happened to be working in the background and occasionally tossing the orange or white thing for Cali to run and get.
thank you for sharing...
What a perfect idea, family supporting family, sharing skills and Cali protecting you all❤
Hey Shawn, Maybe do a tie in with the show Barnwood Builders on this old cabin ? They would (no pun he he ) likely be interested in this property if it need any attention or repairs... Cali seems to approve of the place !
Regarding Solar... In the future I would go adjustable ground mount, with either the new Midnite 12KW AIO or the EG4 18k and build out the batteries as diy to save money from basengreen or if you need self heating batteries buy Ruixu. Best bang for the buck
Enjoying your videos
Great project!
Классно) своё хозяйство сложная работа, но это даёт свои плоды, так держать...
