I have found many remnants of the original builders in the restorations I have been involved in over the decades. I appreciate your acknowledgement of the workers. It is something that passes through my mind as I try to understand what they might have been thinking as they made decisions on how to assemble the pieces. Great project you have.

Tim, Flick - The more you delve into the history of the Chateau the more we admire what you have both taken on, how many craftspeople would have been onsite when this was initially being constructed? The architecture around the detail and construction is amazing and it is a little easier to replace smaller sections that complete wooden beams. Your dedication to reviving the Chateau as truely amazing and we are so happy and proud of the work that two Aussie’s are doing for the better of French culture, you better both shoot off to see Denise and Brett for a a couple of days at their Chateau day spa to relax. Having seen the charpente of numerous chateaux and actually clambered along inside most of the crisscrossed roof of chateau de Saint Fargeau I really appreciate how remarkable Purnon’s roof is inside as well as outside.
Purnon is a constant source of marvels being revealed and underscores the absolute need for her restoration. And from technology that is 4-500 years old is just awe inspiring. Is the new and old wood being treated for woodworm?
When you roll the camera through, I wish we could see the people of days gone by who worked on and entered the building. The lovely architecture just keeps going on. ❤❤
Thank you for the update. It is wonderful that today's restoration crafts persons are using the same techniques as the original construction. The dedication to preserving the historic construction will give Purnon integrity for centuries to come. It is exciting watching the progress. Hello. You are doing a remarkable job on this old monument, a job full of simplicity, which is the most complicated, especially now that we are invaded by complexity. Bravo to all those artisans who know how to work with simplicity. Thank you for coming from so far for this work. Plein d'amour pour vous et vos équipes.
I so enjoy watching the dedication and care that is given by all y'all in healing this beautiful Chateau. Chateau de Purnon might have had the misfortunate timing of being built at the start of the French Revolution, but it had the luck of being restored in the Era of Respect for these innovative designs.
How wonderful for the carpenters...A once in a lifetime to experience, fashion and assemble. I am sure their delight is as wondrous as is ours to witness! Wow. Thanks once again for sharing all that is Chateau Pernon. ❤

Interlocking smaller pieces to make up the overall shape of the roof is both very surprising and fascinating at the same time. A real piece of genius engineering.
The ancient Egyptians believed that uttering a person's name could facilitate their survival in the afterlife. They considered names integral to an individual's identity and essential for posthumous existence. This understanding led to the practice of inscribing names on monuments and tombs, ensuring their remembrance. In the context of Château de Purnon, as you explore and discover the names inscribed on various surfaces from timber rafters within the intricate roofing, concealed behind wallpaper on the Hessian backing to engravings in the massive stonework you keep these people alive. Recognizing and documenting these names preserves the legacies of these artisans and acknowledges the significant role they played in the craftsmen's heritage of both the château and France’s rich history.
french cathedral builders passed this custom to modern builders in France and as they influenced all around europe, european and middle east builders too, later free masons tried to, mimic "the ancient builders" with iconography and rites of those builders as kind of cult, and till now nevah succeed to build anything
I'm still glad to hear that you're keeping that signed piece. Being a history buff, what I love the most isn't the dates and events per-sey, but the lives of the " common men/ women" in history. That signature is a tangible, real ink to a real person during a moment in their life.
2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1
We look forward to displaying this signed piece with many other wonderful artefacts from the roof restoration.
What a great idea to use one of the outbuildings as a museum! People visiting on your open day will be able to see all of things on display for years to come.
That roofing system is Genius! I’m always astonished at the architectural genious of those who’ve passed. How many legacies have been lost to modern techniques that can’t even last half as long. Truly MARVELOUS!

Very good that you do it in the same way with oak since it does not tend to rot for a long time. There is an old technique to help the wood that goes into the wall frames. If you burn the edges if the wood it will last longer. In Sweden they did like this at the castles centures ago.
As a carpenter i love this content and the history behind it. Love what youre doing as a new viewer i have a lot of content to discover. Thankyou. Greetings from the Netherlands

Seeing and understanding the original construction of Purnon is fascinating but the skill of the master artisans to create the necessary repairs is simply mindblowing. Your historic rhetoric is wonderful and greatly appreciated. Thank you to you both, and well, the cutie pie, Truffe!🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

PS - there may be a bit of a delay on the coasters. We are hand crafting them as fast as we can but we have received a large number of orders in recent weeks... but we're getting through them! Thanks for your support.
I would want to purchase a historical house that needs some rescuing, but if ever I call for a new build, I’d want my top-floor ceilings to look like that. The features lost to history! I know sometimes it’s often for the sake of cutting costs. But there are some elaborate and expensive designs out there that people are willing to spend money on. So that’s why I feel like cost isn’t necessarily the issue here. This is one reason why I love history so much. You learn about certain things we should totally incorporate in today’s world.

très émouvant de voir ces compagnons certainement prendre soin et sauver cette charpente merci et merci à ce couple d'anglais qui ne semble pas faire n'importe quoi 👏👏👏😍
We're thrilled you enjoyed the video. But just to clarify - a flat pack is manufactured off site and transported to the destination to be assembled by the buyer. This frame is not a flat pack. As the video showed, the pieces are measured and crafted on site, bespoke for each section and then assembled by the carpenters.
I was being facetious but thinking that it would be a great method for hard to reach areas to create large spaces like the roof area in the outbuilding. I'm now wondering how it would work with current engineering standards and am going to go down a different rabbithole once again, I guess so much would depend on each areas regs.
I'll catch up more on the Patreon side... She really is a time traveler. But also a connector of dots in the very best possible ways... And well done to today's carpenters for that working model you're showing! As always, I'm studying every frame of video! This time, I'm reminded of a TED talk from years ago... I'll try to find it and drop a link. That speaker studied how closely our minds are connected to our hands... almost literally that we learn with our hands first... I'll have to find it and refresh. My first toys, after disassembling most of my mom's kitchen and then my bicycle, was my dad's woodshop. (Waddaya mean there aren't supposed to be spare parts?!?! ;-D) link below, when if I find it...

Thanks for your message and for supporting our project. We're thrilled that there is so much that strikes a chord for you. Our brains all work is such different ways... some people have to disassemble everything they encounter in order to understand how it works, while others recoil in horror at the thought of taking things apart, afraid they will never be able to put them back together! Vive la différence!
older gutters which was replacing for esthetic reason the older ones left water stagnating, with leaks, which rot wood support base, they as i understand now are restoring with original waterproof gutters design, sorry my english as those pieces of wood is rotten!
Wow, what a simply stunning design. It's beautiful and quite amazing that Loudun's methods failed to catch on. Just imagine how architecture would have changed, if there was widespread adoption. Your outbuilding hints at what would have been possible. To preserve it return it to it's former glory is incredible. Thank you so much for researching this and sharing it. From UK.

I'm still glad to hear that you're keeping that signed piece. Being a history buff, what I love the most isn't the dates and events per-sey, but the lives of the " common men/ women" in history. That signature is a tangible, real ink to a real person during a moment in their life.
We look forward to displaying this signed piece with many other wonderful artefacts from the roof restoration.
Guys you certainly have an amazing team of talented artisans working on your sleeping beauty Chateau de Purnon, tfs x Julie 🇬🇧
Thanks Julie - we're thrilled you're following our adventure.
What a great idea to use one of the outbuildings as a museum! People visiting on your open day will be able to see all of things on display for years to come.
Your show is too good. I watch it regularly even though I don't have the time.
Wonderful!
That roofing system is Genius! I’m always astonished at the architectural genious of those who’ve passed. How many legacies have been lost to modern techniques that can’t even last half as long. Truly MARVELOUS!
Thanks for your message - we're thrilled you enjoyed this episode.
Welcome to our adventure. We hope you enjoy catching up on our content!
I learned something really cool today. Thank you.
Thrilled you found in fascinating.
Wonderful! Our forefathers have left us with so much to learn from. Necessity is the mother of invention. I hope you will post a video of your little museum of artifacts when you set it up 😃
Thanks for your message - we will share each step with everyone.
💕I think all big buildings & chateau roofs should be built using this method💕
She is so incredibly handsome and deserves everything, you are the absolute right owners for this painstakingly renovation. The Chateau God are clapping hands and thanking you
Thank you!
La qualité du travail des compagnons du devoir français 🇫🇷 ♥️
Exactement - merci pour votre message.
This is quite a roof construction. Schinkel’s roof designs pale in comparison.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow. Such a brilliant building technique. The architecture of the roof is beautiful.
It must feel lovely working up there under the soft green hue of the tarps ... a beautiful atmosphere.
Architectural genius.
Exactly. A work of art.
Will you be adding a plaque with the names of the artists who worked on your project?
We invite them to sign their names and the dates they worked here in the same fashion as previous generations. We have featured some of the artisans doing so in earlier videos.
Have you checked your Erard’s piano keys for the names and dates of previous tuners? That can be quite revealing too.
Thank you for your wonderful message - we're thrilled you're enjoying the reawakening of Chateau de Purnon.
I just ordered the tiles/coasters. I am so looking forward to receiving a piece of history and preservation in the making. Thank you again and please give Truffe a pat on the head and a cuddle for me. HugZ
Thank you... pat delivered and enthusiastically received.
Oh, that makes me so happy! HugZ 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
PS - there may be a bit of a delay on the coasters. We are hand crafting them as fast as we can but we have received a large number of orders in recent weeks... but we're getting through them! Thanks for your support.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful workings
Welcome....You are !!!!! French country yard, is happy to You See. Keep the knowledge, After a Lot of Century past. 🙏🙏🙏
Even though your artisans have power tools, the job is still huge and fascinating to watch. The design is genius!
Thrilled you enjoyed seeing their incredible work.
Thanks for your message. We're thrilled that you found this episode fascinating.
très émouvant de voir ces compagnons certainement prendre soin et sauver cette charpente merci et merci à ce couple d'anglais qui ne semble pas faire n'importe quoi 👏👏👏😍
The flat pack roof is ingenious and gorgeous.
A sabliere is a purlin in English. 😅 This explains everything! But actually it's the name of the lower beam of a roof truss.
Love the music today! Amazing story and beautiful architecture!
Thanks for your message - we're thrilled you enjoyed this episode.
(Waddaya mean there aren't supposed to be spare parts?!?! ;-D)
link below, when if I find it...
I really enjoy seeing how the roof is put together. It is just amazing.
Thanks for your message - we're thrilled you enjoyed this episode.
I'd love to see a video of the the different buildings and what they would have been used for and maybe what you'll use them for now. Thank you
They have several uploads that go through the buildings on the property.
Thanks!
As always - thank you! We appreciate your regular support of our project.
What an incredible job! The carpenters are truly artists! Will the new wood be treated to prevent rot?
older gutters which was replacing for esthetic reason the older ones left water stagnating, with leaks, which rot wood support base, they as i understand now are restoring with original waterproof gutters design, sorry my english as those pieces of wood is rotten!
The attics ceilings are beautiful and grand...!!
Thank you - we're thrilled you enjoyed seeing them in this episode.
From UK.
Sure incredible beauty and genius!! I am so amazed at the genius these architects had during their time!! Can you even imagine what incredible works they would be able to achieve today with all of the technology we have!! Awe inspiring!! Thank you so very much for saving this precious piece of history and art!!🙏💖🪶💞✨️💜
Your puppy dog is just too cute 🐶❤️
