  • An overnight in below freezing temps doesn't have to include 40 pounds of gear. On this overnight in the Badlands, I show you what I carry to keep my total pack weight at 21 pounds. Bonus feature: New food!

    Durston X Mid 1 “Poor guy edition.” Loved that!
    I have this tent and I can’t wait to describe it as such on my next trip. 😂

    I look at tents every now and again and think, this one looks cool...or ooh that one is super light... Then I see videos like this that save me trouble of finding back out for myself that sleeping (or attempting to sleep) on the ground sucks. Good to see you out, hope you can find your way to the trees soon.

      Thanks Maxx! I'll be back in the trees soon enough! Hope you're doing well my friend.

    Always puts a smile on my face when Youttube notifies me of a Backpacking with Buckley video. looks like you had an enjoyable time camping, and a tasty meal to boot. Good Stuff.

      That meal was damn tasty. I can't find them online though so I'll have to ask Dave where he got it.

    Really good video, Buckley! I think these types of videos are extremely helpful in showing folks how it is done. I was outside laying in the cold (in the teens) yesterday testing a new bivvy that I got and 25 degrees would have been nice, LOL! I feel you on the hammock thing. Getting up off of the ground isn't as easy as it used to be. Thanks for sharing, brother!

      25 degrees is pretty nice winter sleeping indeed. I get pretty chilly when it drops to single digits too! I've never tried a bivvy setup before!

    Great video. Where I'm at Winter is basically like Fall weather, just more wet. Maybe I'll tell people the Celcius temp to make it sound colder. Then switch to Fahrenheit during the Summer. I dig the stove. The tent looks nice, but yeah, agree on the hammock.

    • @BackpackingwithBuckley
      @BackpackingwithBuckley  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have ZERO idea how to convert Celcius. I was WAY off on purpose. Lol. Cheers to hammocks sir!

    Loved the video, another instant classic! I agree on tents, they can be lighter and more versatile, but I'll never sleep on the ground again, even if that means missing out on certain places to camp. Hell, I'll never leave Pennsylvania! 😂

      PA is a nice place too be. I loved it out there! Hammocks are a far better shelter right?

    Great video, Buckley. The backpacker meal sounded tasty. It looked like a muddy mess out there. Crazy it is that warm on February 1st.

    The Badlands Bastard is on the move again! Not too bad a weight for a winter pack. 'course different environments would call for lots of variety in terms of the gear/weight you can get away with. I'm not going to give you a hard time about it though.

    Mud and tents are kind of a given in the UK, so we felt right at home watching this video, until you starting quoting ounces, had to engage Google to work those out😂. Nice camp as always, and a very light combination, like deployed 🏕👌

    I laughed out loud at "how do you tenter's do it?" I just made the switch to hammocks myself (for the reasons you said). Got my SG 30 in December. Got my backpack ready right now, probably going out tomorrow for the 2nd time here in Manitoba Canada, but because of your video, I'm gonna weigh all my stuff first! I wanna see where I'm at.

    Knowing that there's someone (or multiple someones) cringing with each utterance of 'moist' made me chuckle.
    Looks like you made out ok with finding enough stuff to burn. I've heard it said that you can burn the dried out droppings of deer, horses and other grazing animals. Not to sure how pleasant the smoke would be or if I would really want to cook over it.

    • @BackpackingwithBuckley
      @BackpackingwithBuckley  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Moist! I found plenty of thicker dried weeds and such. Burned fast though. Buffalo dung smoked meals sound delicious though. Haha
