    He should have been charged with the murder of each person who died. If he had asked for help when he was supposed to, when he knew there was a problem, this never would have happened. God bless those poor people, and everyone who survived. I can't imagine the fear they felt.

    You know for a fact the coast guard would not have needed to get back on board,he would never have left the ship in the first place,the captain is a complete coward.

    Captain DeFalco is a badass who I would be afraid to disobey. Schettino have different versions of how he levy the ship. In the coast guard conversation he says he jumped into water and later on tv he says he fell into a lifeboat. Excuses excuses.

    Schettino was a coward. First rule of Captains - you are the LAST person to leave your ship when there's a crisis. He has a long time in prison to ponder on that.

    I love how things like this are old enough where the trial has happened, people have been sentenced, and appeals exhausted and people still comment "I hope he gets xyz sentence" or "Man I wish I knew what happened!" Like a two word Google search wouldn't give them the answer. Comment sections are a trip.

    I do have one question though so if you want to be a captain if something happens on the boat that’s not your fault and people might die you have to stay on the boat until everyone else is all even though you know you’re going to die you’re not allowed to save yourself?

    • @Vincenty90
      @Vincenty90 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      As a captain you have to do almost everything possible to save everyone on board. That is your job.
      He's legally responsible for the lives of the people on board because they all depend on him and the crew for safety in an emergency. You have thousands of lives all weighing on one leader and if in an emergency the leader runs away everyone else dies.

      It was his fault tho he wanted to show off and set the course to close to the island he was suppose to be 2 miles further out in the sea so this wouldnt happen.

    Captain showing off to a lady passenger who he was in the process of seducing. No valid need at all to order the vessel to close within saluting distance of the island . No navigation charts of the submerged rocks ? In this day and age ? He was at "it" as much as the randy skipper of the Love Boat.

    It’s a shame Francesco Schettino never learned much about the Titanic sinking before becoming a captain. That disaster teaches so much that all captains should know. Titanic Captain Edward John Smith did make some pretty big mistakes that led to the Titanic sinking, but he didn’t just jump into a lifeboat and choose to ignore everyone still on board the ship like Francesco Schettino did. He worked very hard to help as many people as he could safely evacuate the sinking ship and safely lower them in their lifeboats so they could wait for help to arrive and went down with the ship once he felt he had done all he could do. Also, Carpathia Captain Arthur Henry Rostron knew that just because he wasn’t on the Titanic didn’t mean all of those endangered people on board that sinking ship weren’t his responsibility. He quickly sprang into action upon being awakened and informed about the Titanic sinking by his radio operator who came bursting into his cabin unannounced and worked extremely hard to make the Carpathia go faster than she was built to go to reach the Titanic as quickly as possible in order to save as many people as possible from that terrible disaster. All of that is really the opposite of Costa Concordia Captain Francesco Schettino who ridiculously thought that if he just left the ship, those still on board would no longer be his responsibility.
