Costa Concordia: The Whole Story | Part 2: • Costa Concordia: The W...
The story of the worst cruise accident since the Titanic, the harrowing moment-by-moment narrative of how it happened, from those who were aboard and the islanders who saved their lives.
The whole story behind the catastrophic sinking of the Costa Concordia in January 2012 - an amazing tale of errors and missteps that led to one of the biggest shipwrecks since the Titanic.
For the first time, Discovery tells the whole story of the dream-ship that turned into a nightmare - from the horrific night in January to the epic salvage operation under way today. The production team visited 10 different countries to meet the survivors and the families of victims, as well as shipping experts and salvage masters. The harrowing human story and the fascinating feats of engineering come together in this beautifully shot mini-series.
Using innovative filming techniques, including micro-drones and underwater film, the amazing story is told from beginning to end. The film was made possible through the producers' unparalleled access to survivors, rescue units and the highest Italian coast guard and fire brigade authorities as well as the islanders who rescued the survivors so they could live to tell their stories.
But the whole story of the Costa Concordia goes far beyond the drama of the 13th January, or even the historic salvage underway, it is also about millions of dollars at stake, for the engineers working on the historic salvage, for the cruise industry that must address serious lapses in sea safety, and for the families who will never be the same since they set foot on the Costa Concordia that fateful night.

Captain should've announced, "Sorry I ruined the boat by trying to impress a lady and please head to the life boats". What a mess.
The Mayor act fast to save other people, unlike the Captain runs fast to save his life. 😅
Belize central america I'm from and i say thanks to all the Italian authorities & the locals on the island who help the survivors!! Bravo!! RIP to those who died on the Costa Concordia!!✌🏽🙏🌎💯🇧🇿🇮🇹

Ahh the Costa Concordia....
Internet Historian video about it is nothing short of a masterpiece.
Captain Schettino put whole different meaning to "impressing a lady".

Yes, great memes format combine with accurated and detailed story. Amazing
"I took the brakes off my car, a man like me never really learned how to stop"
I extend my Condolences toward all involved. This is a horrible tragedy that never should have happened. There is no way to repay these vacationing passengers. This is a nightmare.
Just want to say thank you to this amazing channel and all the documentaries that helped me through tough and lonely times. Thank you very much! We really appreciate you!!
Our lord tested the residents of Isola del Giglio with the influx of passengers and were met with open arms. Pass with flying colores...Bravo kind hearted islanders.👏👏🙏👊❤
Nice work man. Love it
I'm so glad I found this channel...thank you so much for the amazing content ☺️

Great documentary. The human side of the story. A modern day Titanic... quite shocking and sad. Rest in peace, all that have lost their lives here.
It was nowhere near the Titanic disaster! That's just absurd! 32 dead (rest their souls) compared to over 1,000. The people that died didn't die from sinking or ice cold water. Any in the water could have swam to the nearby land or to the rocks the ship hit. There were plenty of lifeboats and there were other nearby boats that could have come help. The ship never sank, it tipped over. The Titanic had none of that! Not ideal by any means but hardly the devastation and hopelessness of the Titanic.
I remember wayching this live unfold on tv and hearing their please to the captain.. made my damn blood boil
I can feel the fear and the panic in the narration . TBH it's difficult to comprehend the enormity of the disaster in the night and declare it an emergency. The failure of the electrical systems compounded the problem.

6.2.2022 Very good and best. Thanks for sharing.
The "duga duga duga dut" explanation touch my soul. Unbelievably acurate.
Oh this is a good story I’m so glad they added it here thanks a lot!
A musician with a paying job on a sinking ship: “SURELY everything is ok! We have a show to do!”😂
Schettino "I slip and fell to the lifeboat"
Lmao
That captain acted like he was just a passenger on a ship...No responsibility ...His thinking was *modern cruise ships never sink*...if that happens it's a tragedy and out of my control. WRONG as a captain Ina ship....you are the last man off the ship by not only moral code but maritime LAW!!! a true coward and paying for his cowardice in prison. He never should have taken the responsibility of captain in the first place and the he would not be responsible....He made a choice....and was dishonest to himself and other around him...that is criminal....
the Mayor is braver than the Captain
Belize central america I'm!! Powerful & sad documentary!! RIP to those who died on the Costa Concordia!! Thanks Free Documentary!!✌🏽🙏🌎💯
i have seen a couple of documentaries of this tragic event, but none like this one. very well done. thank you, this is so sad. i would never ever go on a cruise 🚢. shame on that captain 👨✈️
I have been on several of them. They're not for everyone but I always enjoy it. I know it's hard to ever want on a ship after seeing something like this but honestly it's such a rare occurrence that you might as well say you'll never fly again or get in a car which we do everyday. We recognize that in reality, the likelihood of danger is rare in a ship.
Beautiful video
Salam dari Malaysia.. 🙋♂️🇲🇾.. Dokumentari yang sentiasa saya tunggu.. 👍
Waiting for PART 2 🤥🙏🏼❤️
the captain at 51yo, was not experienced at all. he worked as a captain only for 6 years and only for 10years on ships....
I have been looking for a good docu about this incident... FINALLY HAVE ONE!! Thanks a ton!
This Captain was horrible.. How on earth could he act like nothing was a big deal? Omgosh!! Don't ever let him on a ship again!

I just watched this earlier today what a co-incidence
Yep. I saw a doc recently on tv too.
Italian professionals and citizens have proven that Captain Coward is the exception. They were all quick to action and honorable.
Sad story about luxury floating hotel.
I bet the people that lived on the island were thrilled to look at the wreck of the ship for a year before they hauled it away.
Have been killing my spare time with this great channel ❤❤..much love..Great work
@ 19:29 it's shocking that somebody's situational awareness could be so bad. How could you enter that ship and see the sheer size of it and think it could only be 10 meters wide?
This is a riveting documentary.
The lesson is clear .... If anyone say the ship is unsinkable ..... Runaway dont board on that ship.....
Poor ship such a waste, went on one of her sister ships 2yrs ago such beauties 🛳️
Great job guys!!
The internet historian documentary was more historically accurate

Seems like a lot of people did small things too help people and I’m sure it seemed small to them but probably saved someone’s life. But the coward captain 👨🏼✈️ left people stranded
I appreciate the passengers's interview. Only one thing, at 21:28, i think that is the footage of a pool malfunction of another ship, happened time before Concordia
Comment Sense tells me that in a case like this, the cabin is the last place one to be trapped in. when the ship goes under is taken you with it. noooo thank you, even if i win a trip such as this i wouldn’t go.
Great job!!!
Didn't the captain go to prison ? He should've..
Yes, he got 16 years. 1yr for abandoning the passengers, 5 years for screwing up and 10 years for the deaths...
Not only can cruise ships generate the same amount of sulfur dioxide fumes as 13.1 million cars in a day, but they also dump boatloads of noxious bilge water into the ocean. Nice.
Internet historian has a great video on this topic
Imagining the first floating hotel accident in then out of orbit of Earth...
Thanks
This is absolutely sobering.
Sometimes I question if we stopped wearing heels because of comfort or because of the knowledge that in these terrorists attacks, mass shootings and other unsuspected disasters we have a better chance of survival.
SOMETIMES YOU QUESTION THAT?!??!!?
If wearing heels while traveling is a good idea or not?
That’s something you question? 🙄😂
Omg
So Hollywood want to tell me that they gave no seen these folks doc; why give the Oscars to lower grade movies and doc. These are the best
Very well done, thank you.
I cannot understand why people go on cruise ships. They all have the interiors that look like tacky casinos with no class, you're stuck in a floating petrie dish of germ incubation. It's just a floating hotel that for large periods of time you can't leave, even if you wanted to. And don't forget, they use bunker oil as fuel, the single dirtiest fuel there is.
The map they use is turned around. Also you refer to position as if you are facing the bow. Starboard is "right" and Port is "left." The Costa sank and was turned on its STARBOARD (right) side. The documentary continually confuses this fact by saying left or right while facing the front of the ship. It's very confusing.
I'm pretty sure I'd have my life jacket on and go to a low point and jump into the water. Then swim for the land that was in sight or to the rocks the ship hit. The Mediterranean water shouldn't have been that cold especially because they were in more shallow water.
As bad as this was it may have been even worse…. Had the ship not needed up its side even more people would have died.
Plz try to do traveling vlogs .
Next time anyone decides to make a dumb decision and tell themselves "what's the worst that can happen?" THIS. This can happen.
What Have You's Learned From These Ship Accidents 🤔. Never Put An Incompetent Driver,Crew Member,Ect On Your Ship's 🤬😂
Good.
The islanders were the real heroes.
So sad
Heartbreaking to all the people who didnt make it
I'm confused why people were evacuating on the port side when that was the direction of the lean... They should have turned people away from the port muster stations. Hindsight I guess.
9 years ago already😱
I'm sorry but if your kitchen staff is braver than you, you have no business being a captain of a ship...
It's been 10 years.. how

10:42..."at times, the Indonesian Helmsman had trouble understanding the instructions...."
A 60,000+ Tonne Cruise Ship, has a Helmsman that is unable to understand his Captain's orders...... not that it would have made any difference to the Captain's stupidity if the Helmsman could understand him, but come on, the Crew being on the same page would have to be one of the more pressing necessities when it comes to handling a Ship...... right ?
I saw this on google earth wow crazy to see on camera
I adore your channel, but the translators acting out the emotions is beyond funny.
That joke about the titanic was in poor taste. the titanic's electricity didn't go out until the ship was damn there submerged.
