Thanks for pointing out the ways I can tell without a UV because until now I only used the face and I hated accepting $100 bills because people will occasionally be like "Yea dont worry its not fake" or "Yea I just printed it today" when I hold it up to the light, they act like I'm accusing them of a crime when in reality I just work here and I don't wanna be out $100 in an instant.
I hate accepting $100 bills. I am always weary of getting counterfeit money and be out a lot of cash.

I'm a cashier and we use the pen for $20's and up. I knew of the 'lapel' test ( a bank teller told me of it) and I'm going to advise my colleagues to do BOTH from now on especially on $100's knowing what you said about bill bleaching (wow!)....

Other than getting it taken away from you what difference does it make when Washington DC prints hundreds of billions of unbacked money (counterfeit)
So the gold 100 number in the bottom right hand corner also turns color. Black when turned up away from you, and green when turned side to side.

Where I work, they make you pay out of pocket for any money that went short. Finding a counterfeit makes the drawer short and it falls on us to replace it. This video will help me a lot, cause I'm sick of my drawers ending up short. And learning about the bleaching method definitely opens my eyes, so I'm buying a blacklight just to play it safe, and doing the lapel test if I'm still not sure. Thanks for posting.

They are pretty great for registers and even have a template that will show you placement and color of where the security strip will be
If they complain why you’re taking so long, you’re just making sure it’s not counterfeit
The raised image areas are not printing, they are intaglio. The intaglio deposits a well of ink on to the substrate. Where as printing deposits ink from the top of type to the substrate. The substrate is not paper it is 75% cotton and 25% linen, with a random sampling of silk fibers of different colors.

1:51 that’s a fact for every denomination except for the 5 dollar bill, which has two watermarks, a giant 5 on the right and a row of small 5’s on the left

Awesome video, especially after having the unfortunate experience of accepting that I've got to accept that I had unwittingly accepted a total fake AF bill like a dummy!!! It's so embarrassing having to be honest to myself about it but after watching this video now I know exactly where I ended up allowing myself to be had...on that note ty for making this, it's definitely the perfect info for anyone trying to not fall victim unsuspectingly...SMH...
Thing I dont get is they add all these security features but the old 100s are still in circulation. So if someone was counterfeiting money. Why not just make the old ones and not even bother trying to bypass all these new features?

I started checking the blue strip as I sneakily wave it back and forth. Because I know if I hold it by the light, customers would get pissed and my managers don't want us doing that.
For tourists since about 20 years ago, money changers had been avoiding this bill due to the amount of fakes in circulation. Nowadays, smaller denominations are also avoided. Many currencies got affected. Change your currencies at places with receipt proofs that points to themselves as the source. Banking and finance paper-trails concept.

If you didn’t know already, there’s actually red and blue fibers in the paper over the water mark. That’s another security feature my boss told me. I work at in n out

You have to see the microprintings.
The best tell is to see if the guy handing you the money is trying to distract you while you're checking the bills. The security threads are also the hardest feature to counterfeit. Watermarks and color shifting are easily defeated.
Not really because where I work we got $50 bill that look realistic and had a watermark and everything but the watermark was facing the opposite way.

Interesting note: We use a machine at our shop, but the ink from the bills never fully dry. You can take an old bill, put it on white paper, use your fingernail and scratch the bill and the ink will come off on the white paper. This will not happen with a printed currency.

I found a 50 dollar bill last winter (it was all wet) looked legit, took it home and died it and it just, pretty much dissolved away is the best way I can explain it.

In the UK I was well used to the feel of counterfeit notes against real ones but occasionally would tear the note where the security foil was stitched in just to be sure.
The favourite excuse was the £5 or £10 note was all crjn hed up because it had been through the washing machine but they were just really poor copies on paper!
Never heard of bleaching over here........

There is another one that in black small writing says for movie production only. my friend got a fake fifty with this and now displays it at the cash register.
You forgot the blue and red fibers pressed into the bill. If they are copied they’d be black and pen ink is noticeable and the fibers can be removed from the bill with tweezers . And at the up right hand corner where there’s a letter like the B2 you have on this bill . The number indicates which letter in the alphabet the letter falls on .
I work at a shoe store, today a customer tried paying for shoes with a fake $100 bill. I nearly took the cash without really looking at it until one of my co workers actually noticed by just looking at it

Few years ago i visited our daughter in America taking $9,000 with me but thought i would just get 90 $100 bills to save space in my wallet.
What a mistake to make...... none of the shops would touch them so my daughter ended up changing them at her bank!

Ya my friend showed me da break in da blue 3D security ribbon n I tripped out!!! N da marker test is not 100% full proof but casinos n retailers still use it!!! I know cuz I've had a few fake bills dat passed marker test but were fake!!! Dey either wash $1's n $5's n print on actual money jus a fake denom n too I believe sprayin hairspray on da bill will allow it to pass marker wat I read online at least!!!!

Well, the thing is though, someone who is printing fake money, could print anything they want to on it, so even a fake bill could say "One Hundred Dollars". Thats why its important to be able to tell the authenticity of the materials used. i.e the feel of the paper, the raised inking, the holographic blue strip...

I should have known it was too good to be true. Last night, while walking my dog., I came across a ragged, torn $100 bill lying on top of the snow. This afternoon, i just got embarrassed at the store that I have shopped at for years, when the lady waiting on me, laughed and said it was FAKE! Hell, now I'm afraid to go back and shop there again. So i got home and did what i should have done first, find out if it was real before I went shopping.

You really dont need a blacklight to see the “100 usa” black line just simply hold it up to a light whether its your ceiling light or flash light or whatever light you have and you should see it
That is correct. The point in me showing that however was to show another of the security features, which is that that strip in each denomination bill will illuminate a different color under the black light

You forgot to mention at least 2 things. The colored flakes jn the paper and the 100 printing ink that shifts the color when you tilt the bill. Great video anyways!

Not necessarily. But to be 100% sure it’s definitely recommended to check at least a few. I would say if you have the security strip that reads the right denomination and it reacts to the UV the color it should be , then it’s pretty certain it is real. I just show a bunch of different ways for the people that want to know ALL the ways to check
As a pizza guy I receive quite a bit of old $20s, and $10s. Ironically they’re both from 1974. They appear so white looking and I can’t tell if they’re real
I always try to find old bills, never seem to find any. I have almost 6 Grand in my pocket right now and literally EVERY single bill is from either 2009 or 2013
As certain businesses that deal with a lot of money, banks, casinos, they’re slowly taking the old money, and they’re sending it back to the federal government which destroys them replaces them for new money. They’re trying to take them out of circulation..

How to see the counterfeit printing process? IDK but bleaching the numbers on a $1 to make it $100 makes me want to see how they are doing it. These videos are old so are they still doing it?
