How refreshing two men top of their game, Cloughie is an absolute legend we all know that but Frost was the ultimate tv interviewer as he actually listened to Brian and responded with questions related to the previous questions. Class.
My earliest memory of football, in far off Australia, as an 11 year old boy, was this man called Brian Clough. Loud, brash, brilliant. Inspiring. As the decades have rolled on, I have grown to love and respect him even more.
Mr Clough’s greatest asset is his ability to articulate a thought into something totally understandable to the layman as well as those with brightest minds. Such an incredibly clear thinker and orator.
Absolutely spot on, all the greatest managers had the ability to communicate clearly and simply and had the knack of finding the right choice of words to make their message resonate with the players.
Forest had a bad game and as the team came off the field to everyone of them he said changing room one hour so they sat waiting for him expecting a rollicking he bobbed his head through the door and said if you look through the window you will see it's snowing put some bread out for the birds turned on his heels and went top man
It's called intelligence and his communication skills show a high level of "Emotional Intellegence" that allot of oddball geek geniuses simply often don't have...
His lasting memory will be two stars on the NF shirt. The accolades in the City ground are there for everyone to see. I had my first visit last season, you can still feel his and Peter Taylors presence.

One of the best managers for me. I love how he saw life and how straight forward and honest his answers were. I really felt for Cloughie when pride got the better of him in regard to his relationship with Peter Taylor. Friendship is one of the most precious things in this world and no matter what the cost in your pride you should keep it and hold on to it.. Seeing Brian realise this after Peter's death was very sad and it raised my awareness of what is truly precious in life.

Clough is known for being arrogant, but it’s a deserved arrogance, but he was also a kind, humble and very gracious man. I sat next to him at the infamous coffee cup Derby vs Forest game in Mar 2004. My fella got some extra good tickets off an exec friend of his, the whole time I was awe struck, not daring to speak! I never said a word to him, which I deeply regret. He looked so poorly, but he was there with his grand kids and I didn’t want to bother him.

I met him when I was a kid in the late 70’s. He was watching an amateur league football match and I asked for his autograph. He told me to wait until half time ! 😂 To be fair to him, I did and he gave me his autograph and was very friendly. Enigmatic genius and one of a kind. I wish he was still around.

I think he is dead honest. I do believe him when he implies that he likes/respects people, and needs them to be Good, appreciates sincerity... I think he was a real force for good, even if he rubbed some people up the wrong way. It is not ego but confidence that he had and we need people to be thoughtful and confident. As a Nottingham dweller, I was grateful he came to Forest soon after this interview :)

My admiration for Brian has always been his want to provoke thought, not just to be a provocateur. Simply magnificent and brilliant man. As a United fan, I can acknowledge how brilliant SAF has been...and how almost impossible it is to fathom someone being as or more successful with MUCH less resources. Titan.
One of my favourite cloughy quotes is one not often cited anywhere and its as deep as they come. "You can talk and talk and talk about your profession, but then you've got to go and do it. It's no good trying to convince someone you're right, you've got to provide the example and then talk about it". Lost on many football pundits in the game today who are stealing a living.

He claimed that Lingard going to Forest was about money,, and in the very same breath, then went on to claim he would have got more money at West Ham. Think about that for a second, the total contradiction in one breath - because by definition, if that was true, then by definition Lingards move couldnt have been about the money. It's the ilk of these people who simply dont think before they talk, that should be washed away so that the rest of us can have some time to think about and enjoy the game. He actually DOES know how to provide examples to talk about, but what clough was driving at, is that its not enough to have opinions on the game and try to convince everyone your opinion are right, what he was driving at is that you shouldnt get to sit in a studio and tell people how the gane should be played until you've got out onto a training pitch and got 11 guys to play in a way that proves you are right. What happened when Neville tried to do that? He bombed. He went to Valencia and proved he couldnt do it. I feel a bit bad for using him as the classic example because I really like the bloke, but at the end of the day he is the archetypal example of what clough was talking abuot. Gary Neville has for years tried to talk to people about how football should be played, but when given the chance to go out and actually do it, rather than talk about it, he completely flopped it. In Neville's defence, he'll readily admit this to be the case, he doesn't shirk it. Fair play to him for at least trying to go out and provide an example rather than just talk the talk, but thats exactly what Clough was getting at. Provide the example....win something.....get 11 lads to run through brick walls for you......THEN sit in a studio and tell people how it should be done once you've shown how its done.

Well you've certainly left no stone unturned . From what I can remember my mates never had anything like these problems with their respective RD 200 & 400 ,they seemed very reliable at the time ( it was a VERY long time ago ) Beautiful ,and probably very rare now , bike . 👍👊

The greatest Clough moment i ever saw was the press conference when Trevor Francis signed for Forest. Friday night, Francis just signed, the press are interviewing him. Clough and Taylor are sitting in on it. Francis is answering all the press questions then one guy asks, “Trevor, when do you think you'll play your first game for Nottingham Forest?” Quick as a flash, before Francis could answer, Cloughie immediatlely says, “When i pick 'im!”

I met him when I was a kid in the late 70’s. He was watching an amateur league football match and I asked for his autograph. He told me to wait until half time ! 😂 To be fair to him, I did and he gave me his autograph and was very friendly. Enigmatic genius and one of a kind. I wish he was still around.

I think he was a real force for good, even if he rubbed some people up the wrong way. It is not ego but confidence that he had and we need people to be thoughtful and confident.
As a Nottingham dweller, I was grateful he came to Forest soon after this interview :)

As I personally remember his great Nottingham Forest side you could never doubt his football abilities . Watching this interview I am even more impressed by his personality and his views . maybe too honest to ever get the England job . We will never know if he could have done anything with England
I think he would. Even a weaker forest side in the 80s reached Cup semis and finals. He wouldve crafted the team around Hoddle.

My admiration for Brian has always been his want to provoke thought, not just to be a provocateur. Simply magnificent and brilliant man.
As a United fan, I can acknowledge how brilliant SAF has been...and how almost impossible it is to fathom someone being as or more successful with MUCH less resources. Titan.
One of my favourite cloughy quotes is one not often cited anywhere and its as deep as they come.

@@CronoXpono My personal annoyance is pundits who clearly should not be working in the game but who seem to think their opinions are vital to the game. I was given a recent example by Glen Johnson. He claimed that Lingard going to Forest was about money,, and in the very same breath, then went on to claim he would have got more money at West Ham. Think about that for a second, the total contradiction in one breath - because by definition, if that was true, then by definition Lingards move couldnt have been about the money. It's the ilk of these people who simply dont think before they talk, that should be washed away so that the rest of us can have some time to think about and enjoy the game. So much noise to cut through.
....and then dont get me started about agents. I could rant about those guys all day and a week!
@@CronoXpono Another really good example of that quote by clough was Gary Neville. Now dont get me wrong, I really really like Neville. He actually DOES know how to provide examples to talk about, but what clough was driving at, is that its not enough to have opinions on the game and try to convince everyone your opinion are right, what he was driving at is that you shouldnt get to sit in a studio and tell people how the gane should be played until you've got out onto a training pitch and got 11 guys to play in a way that proves you are right. What happened when Neville tried to do that? He bombed. He went to Valencia and proved he couldnt do it. I feel a bit bad for using him as the classic example because I really like the bloke, but at the end of the day he is the archetypal example of what clough was talking abuot. Gary Neville has for years tried to talk to people about how football should be played, but when given the chance to go out and actually do it, rather than talk about it, he completely flopped it. In Neville's defence, he'll readily admit this to be the case, he doesn't shirk it. Fair play to him for at least trying to go out and provide an example rather than just talk the talk, but thats exactly what Clough was getting at. Provide the example....win something.....get 11 lads to run through brick walls for you......THEN sit in a studio and tell people how it should be done once you've shown how its done.

What a great interview, two amazing men.
To do what he did at Leeds was impressive. He tried to get them to play proper football despite being winners already. He had it easy, didn't even need to change things but tried to. No manager now would do this now.
he not only tried to get Leeds to stop being a dirty team - but was faced with the whole team getting too old at the same time - signed McGovern who went on to great things at Forest ..Beckenbauer thought he was very underated later at Forest ....

He was a bit before my time, but watching this and other interviews he was so sharp, intelligent and insightful. He had his flaws for sure, but he was ahead of his time in an age of footballing

The greatest Clough moment i ever saw was the press conference when Trevor Francis signed for Forest. Friday night, Francis just signed, the press are interviewing him. Clough and Taylor are sitting in on it. Francis is answering all the press questions then one guy asks, “Trevor, when do you think you'll play your first game for Nottingham Forest?” Quick as a flash, before Francis could answer, Cloughie immediatlely says, “When i pick 'im!”
Shankly, Busby, Paisley, Clough, Ferguson. Brian is up there at the top table with the all time greats.
