Great to hear that you are honoring the heritage of your Dutch forefathers. Any old family correspondence in Dutch language existing ? And you got a pretty neat stamp album (DAVO) "Made in Netherlands" including a fantastic stamp collection of Dutch stamps. Fun fact: due to the usage of Euro stamps, the old mint issues in Gulden currency are no longer valid and are very affordable now. Long live the House of Nassau- Oranje ! 😉 Greets from Duitsland, U.

Anyways, sorry for my ramblings. I often like to leave comments as I’m watching a video 😂👍
Really like your collection. Your videos almost make me want to try to show my Dutch or German collection on TH-cam but I don’t have a good camera, so yeahhhh probably won’t do that.

The album looks amazing. I'm just getting started in stamp collecting (still trying to figure things out with collecting), but I'm looking at getting used stamps cause I also think they look great.

Very nice video. I feel the same way about my grand-parents from my mother's side My grand-mother was from Kiev Ukraina, and my grand-father was from Galicia in Poland. My mother was from Tel-Aviv, Israel, which was Palestine in 1932 when she was born...until 1948 when it became Israel.

Yeah I prefer used too, usually. There are a few sets that are so beautiful that I really want them mint. I already have my favorite set ever mint. (The Summer stamps showing the coat of arms of the then 11 Provinces. My favorite is probably the purple one, such a nice color, and you don’t see purple stamps very often.)
Another set I want mint are the tuberculosis stamps, because there’s just so much detail on them. I currently have the CTO version of them though, because even the used set of those is pretty expensive. (The CTO’s they asked a little bit of money for too, but not as much of course)

OH, btw, if you like reading historical mystery novels, there are several excellent novels by Maan Meyers, starting with "The Dutchman", set in Dutch Neu Amsterdam.

I just got this... thanks for the recommendation! I love historical mystery novels... Caleb Carr's Alienist is really good, if you're looking for a recommendation... I'll check out Maan Meyers!

You have a beautiful collection of Netherlands stamps in a beautiful hingeless album. I ,myself, especially like the first issues of 1852 and 1864. It is particularly meaningful for you to collect Netherlands in light of your Dutch heritage. One thing great about Netherlands is that its stamp issuing policy has been rather conservative, and unlike a lot of countries, its stamps mainly pertain to Dutch history and things that are within the country. Therefore, Dutch stamps can inspire one to learn much about the history of the Netherlands. Interestingly, some of its more recent stamps have been printed so uniquely that Scott has had to insert a note to say that these are not errors. I once purchased a Netherlands collection that arrived on loose pages like the pages in your album. I found a binder that the pages would fit in, and that became my main Netherlands album. Keep up your enthusiasm for collecting stamps. It is a great hobby which helps us to learn so much about the world we live in.

Yeah Dutch stamps are generally very accessible, except maybe certain back of the book stamps.....
That’s why I’m a bit of a lazy collector in that country, not buying too many stamps at once, just slowly piecing together what I can. Since I live in the country it’s probably even more accessible, though also a bit more expensive since most stamp dealers here specialize in Dutch stamps and will know what they’re worth. (And people are willing to pay that price)
You’re way less likely to find some nice stamps you’ve been missing just in a cheaply bought album. I’ll either have to buy a complete collection from someone for a lot of money (which takes the fun out of it for me so I won’t do that), be lucky with my finds, or just buy sets I need one by one.

I just bought this exact album. The only issue? I'm spoiled with my Scott albums (showing Scott #s) so it takes more work to figure out how to make a stamp list for this album. I am going to a stamp show this weekend and I'll just bring this album as my guide.

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Agreed... definitely the biggest drawback of Davo albums... I keep a Google spreadsheet on my phone that has the Scott #s, and condition of each stamp, so when I'm on Ebay or out and about I can check... definitely putzy tho

@@silkontheweb Yep. I'll be at a stamp show today with my new Netherlands album. I thought about bring my Scott catalog but that's another big book to lug around. I also bought the current USA Davo album and its easy since the pictures of each stamp are shown so I don't need the Scott #.

My uncle (Dutch) owned a stamp store in west Michigan and sold quite a bit on ebay. I wonder if you have run across him over the years.

I really enjoyed this video of yours. Thanks! You are also genetically probably mostly Dutch. :) Have you been to Nederland? Sorry if I missed that one. I also have a strong connection to Nederland. I am a South African and my home/first language is Afrikaans, which developed from Nederlands. I can understand Nederlands pretty well. Genetically I am a mixture of mostly German and Irish, some Dutch and English, and being South African, probably also a tiny bit of African - as far as I know. Anyway, I enjoyed you showing your Nederland collection, first time that I get some overview of the older stamps, and your strong connection to the Nederlanders. :)

Hello, I have watched your Netherland stamp album video and I also recently purchased an estate that contained the same album with many stamps in it (actually there is also a second album). I am not necessarily a stamp collector although I do enjoy the history behind them so I was wondering if you would be interested in acquiring all or some of the missing stamps from your album (I compared my album with yours while watching the video and I have over 60 stamps that were not in your album). Thank you for considering and keep your videos going as I do enjoy them.

One of the back of the book sets I really want are the: ‘Brandkastzegels’ they’re really pretty and have an interesting history, but are difficult to find and quite expensive.

The older Dutch stamps were very collectable, but most of the recent ones are badly designed & horrible!!
Netherlands probably issues the least collectable stamps in Europe now.
