    Thank you so much for sharing your pre ´45 U.S. stamp collection with us. I like your genuine enthusiasm and especially the classic part (pre 1870s). DAVO is not the worst decision for a neat hingeless album, though I prefer to store my varieties in Lighthouse stock books. But: beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! 😉 Have a fantastic weekend ! I am watching through your videos I have not seen yet. Enjoy it! I know literally nothing about US stamps, but really liked to look with you through your album. It seems like an excellent and very neat collection, and I enjoy your positive attitude very much. I like those extra pages you add to personalize the album, otherwise it feels so restricted I would imagine. Thanks for showing us!🙂

    I collected stamps in the late 70's early 80's and used the Liberty album. This looks like the mounts are pre-attached ,nice system.

    I liked your video a lot! Beautiful collection!
    You were pointing out the $1 stamp from 1898. Did you know that the $1 value of the 1898 Trans-Mississipi Exposition Issue, internationally known as the “Cattle in the Storm” stamp, was designed from a 19th century painting of Scottish painter, John A. MacWhirter. The scene on the stamp is in Scotland, not the United States. Regardless, it’s a cool stamp.

    I think that the US commemorates everything which makes collecting them all pretty hard, but I'm trying. Most I get from the circuit books from my club here in New Zealand. Love your videos, always brings a smile to my face with your laughter and good humour.

    Caught the US Commemorative collecting bug again. I used to collect and gave my used/cancelled stamps away back in the late 80s. In 2012, started collecting plate blocks that looked nice. As of late, I'm collecting the C46 stamps.

    I am new to collecting stamps. I've been getting PCS and other sets on eBay. Of course, nothing rare, but I think they are cheap. I'm having a lot of fun. I just ordered an album for envelopes, and one for loose stamps.

    From what I could see, you have a nice showing of material. Very impressive, especially your Washington-Franklin and 4th Bureau groups. But you might want to double check your 187. Overall it should look more like the 188 next to it (but without secret mark), and not like the 209 in the bottom row. In the pic today, I am seeing a 209 where a 187 should be.

    I too have searched for a "blue" paper stamp over a number of years without success. I finally gave up and like you, I bought one, I totally identified your journey in pursuit of getting example of this variety of stamp. My "blue" paper example is the 2 ct Lincoln Memorial, Sc 369, exactly the same "hole" filled in my album.

    I enjoy very much your enthusiasm . It's awesome watching you showcase a new acquisition each week. Now on to a more pressing matter that you need to know. At 17:39 into the video, you have a spot for Scott # 581 - 591, one cent through ten cents. They are perf. 10 rotary press stamps. You have the wrong stamps in their place. You have the Scott # 597 - 603. Which are coil stamps, rotary press perf. 10 vertical with the flat edges top and bottom. Which brings me to another error in your album. The next page should accommodate the coils, both vertical and horizontal. That would be, Scott # 597- 606. Just thought you would like to know.

    Thanks for sharing your US album with us. Is there any philatelist that DOESN'T have some organizational issues? I am starting to consider paring down what I collect.... If I like it, collect it. For instance, like you, I'm not that thrilled with the hoards of variety of the US Washington-Franklin series. There are many holes in my Scott Hingeless and Minuteman albums - but I don't care. I'd rather work on expanding things like the 1934 US National Parks issues - singles, blocks of four, Centerline blocks, plateblocks and postally used covers. In fact today, I just won an ebay auction for 740-49 used blocks of four . You seem to like "Chicago" cancellations..... part of my Dad's family is from Chicago (southside - Bridgeport)......

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good catch! Grew up in a town called Wheeling, outside Chicago... I especially like the Documentary stamps from the turn of the century, makes me think of stockyards and whatnot. And great idea focusing on plateblocks etc of the National Park issue... love that set so much... happy collecting!

    Cancelled stamps on postcards is a nice way to collect. It would bother me to have used and unused in the same album.

    Collectors abhor an empty space. Lol! For my US collection I mount the MNH ones and hinge the MH ones. That way they are easily identifiable and it gives me additional impetus to try and find a MNH copy. Do you have a Plate Block album. I would love to see the early issues.

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure why... but plate blocks aren't my thing, at least not yet... I keep the ones I have in a plastic case with the thought that one day I might pick up an album, we'll see

    Great stuff. I too am a big Davo fan. The clear inserts, are they specifically from Davo? I could use some of those myself.

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! Found them on their website... they really let you personalize your album, but then also fill in the gaps... that's the maun drawback with these i think... they don't have spaces for all the stamps... with the inserts you can make room

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No silly questions in stamps! :) And yes... it has mounts built into the pages, so you can slide in the stamps without having to hinge them in place

  • @fenrik8178

    Nice collection! I feel you on the comparing stamps to look for paper varieties part.... I collect Bavarian stamps, and quite a lot are a bit of a nightmare to catalogue because of the very minor varieties that make stamps look similar, but they were issued at different dates, so are different stamps... Recently got done with putting some of the coat of arms stamps into my Bavarian album pages. Two certain sets of stamps’ only difference is in the paper type: white or toned. Sometimes impossible to really distinguish from each other. I tried comparing stamps that I knew for certain were on toned paper with stamps I wasn’t sure of, but still don’t know if I put everything in its right place 😅😭👌
    I’m not looking forward, but also kind of am to sort my other Bavarian stamp sets. Particularly the ones with the king..... there’s like a lot of types... also wartime and peace time printings just like with Germania stamps....
    Speaking of German stamps. Do you have a German Empire album too? If so, I’d love to see that one too, as someone who bought their first stamp album (as opposed to my beloved stock books) this year to focus on that era for. (Also Bavaria, which I’m half regretting, but also having fun with)

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a joy... and it's not... :) if I really like the stamps I find it more enjoyable to sort through and catalogs the minor varieties. I do have a decent German collection, though it's in stock cards at the moment... will be showing those soon in my 'a beginner's guide' series. Happy collecting!

      I have a Lindner album (mainly because it was the cheapest option for what I wanted in an album where I live), and it’s Michel based.
      Since Michel is German, the album is very extensive in certain parts sometimes haha. Will definitely be personalizing the album more to my preferences of course. Also really need to purchase a recent-ish Michel Germany catalogue, but holding off on it for now since it costs quite a bit....

    I know nothing about stamps. I have a lot of questions. Are those actually stuck to the page? Or can you remove them ?

    • @silkontheweb
      @silkontheweb  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You've come to the right youtube channel... :) No, this album is what's called a 'hingeless album' and it has plastic cases that hold each stamp so the gum on the back doesn't get disturbed. Stamps are like any other collectible... it's all about condition. There are millions of stamps obviously, the ones that collectors hold onto for the most part look like they were just printed, both front and back. Check out my Beginner's Guide series for other tips (and why it's such an awesome hobby).
