Hampi was burnt and the wealth was carried on elephants . Some elephants lost their way and ran into villages . Villagers sang the folk song " Aney Bant ond Aney , ya ura aney ". This sounds like kids song but it actually denotes melancholy and agony .
Even the material was not spared , this loot of Hampi city was carried and used to build Hyderabad city .

Ramaraya was brutally killed by Hussain whom he took care from childhood as his own son. When war was won and Ramaraya has surrendered then why did they plunder Vijayanagar. Tughulaq and kilji also malij kafur just looted they did not conquer india. One of the best example is kumara Rama of kummata durgapur defeated them.
History says that Vijayanagara kingdom was destroyed due to the last ruler Aliya Ramaraya's decisions and appeasements of muslims. He had appointed muslim commanders in his army who earlier had worked in Sultan's army finally they betrayed him when combined forces of sultans attacked Vijayanagara. Historians also says that Vijayanagara army was very huge and could have easily defeated sulthans but due to these two commanders betrayal it was lost and more ever there was conflicts going on between sulthans among themselves which Ramaraya took advantage of. He was taking different sides when there ws war going between these sulthans which enraged them and all of sudden musilm unity came into their minds that caused war of Talikota.
