  • A day of mostly better weather and some really lovely riding.
    There were some big climbs here and there but in the back of my mind was the thought of the climb to come on day 5 - the big one.
    For now though, just enjoy the moment :)

    Another very enjoyable video Jethro. Been following you a while. Am heading off this morning to do a trip myself for a few days round Devon & Cornwall. Bike’s all packed and ready to hit the road. No better feeling!

      Fantastic!
      How's the weather looking? There seems to be a lot of rain and wind kicking around Europe at the moment!
      Hope you manage to get a great ride in and maybe even get some sunshine 😉

    You are exemplifying bike packing so well here my friend! I can see the peace and happiness in your face despite the slight time crunch of a train to catch in Glasgow! In and of itself a true example of the logistics involved in such an undertaking. Thank you thank you for your hard work in bringing us along kind sir! NQU

      Thank you for watching along, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
      I definitely prefer a more laid back approach to my adventures than many I think and it's good to know I'm not alone in that.
      The train deadline had an impact on the ride for sure but it didn't do much to dampen things. I still had a fantastic ride!

    Hi Jethro, I really liked this film of day four. I completely agree with your sentiments. When I’m cycling or hiking there is just nothing more pleasant than just sitting at some beautiful bit of the country and marvelling at it all. Looking forward to the film of day five, if indeed you survived. Sounded like a ‘character forming’ day.

    I love these vids! I do these sort of rides and only sometimes I think, not many people have sat here and appreciated the views. And a lot of the time just hammered through the trails and roads, head down getting through it like a slave. Thanks for reminding me to have a second breakfast and live the ride and not just do it 👍🏻

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its so easy to get caught up in making it to the end of day. I do it myself, though I try not to.
      When the weather is great and the views are spectacular its important to remember why you came out in the first place. For me the pauses are always as important as the riding between them.
      Thanks for watching, happy riding :)

    Earlier this year whilst in the Lakes I too spent some time pondering the marvel of the drystone wall and the human endeavour that must have gone into building them on near vertical slopes…
    I have a question which may be slightly unfair given you seemed to have just reached the best bits of the ride but if you could only do one - Second City Divide or Badger Divide? I fancy taking me on but only have time for one.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have actually finished this one now. I'm just slow at editing the footage 😉
      Badger Divide without question (in my opinion). I really enjoyed the SCD but the Badger delivers more off road riding, more wilderness and is slightly easier and slightly shorter if time is a factor. It's still my favourite route that I've ridden so far.
      Check out my Badger Divide series if you haven't already 😉

    Some cracking countryside and lovely weather. I must admit that I've often contemplated the dry stone wall phenomenon too. It is pretty amazing! By the way, where's your little handlebar mascot on this adventure?
    Take care Jethro 😊

      @JethroJessop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't think I have the constitution to ride in any other fashion than laid back to be honest 😉
      The days were quite long on this one by my standards but for many the pace would have been painfully slow I'm sure.
      Mr. Redman had to spend most of this trip in a pocket due to needing to repurpose his harness as a jacket strap.
      He's safe and sound and will be back for the next one!

      It was a top find!
      I'd been looking for a wild camp but found only sheep filled fields and MOD land.
      I finally asked an old couple if they knew of a campsite and they pointed out one literally 100m up the road.
      I picked that spot and pitched just before the rain really set in which is always nice.

    That looked like my kind of biking. The views looked superb. How many spare inner tubes? Do you carry? Or maybe you run tubeless....

    • @jameskolar9655
      @jameskolar9655 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to butt in here, but I stop quite often on my rides to lend/give inner tubes to riders with punctures. I would say always try to carry 2 spare tubes. Not just for yourself though, but because you need to be able to help other riders who don’t have spare tubes to fix their punctures. Remember to replace those used tubes as soon as poss. If you ride tubeless as I often do and carry co2 with you, it’s still a good idea to carry a mini pump. Again to assist others and to use yourself when your co2 fails you. As mine has. Jethro rides on tubes, I have heard him say so a few times. Good like and enjoy your riding.

    • @JethroJessop
      @JethroJessop  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I ride tubeless these days. I was a little apprehensive when I made the switch but I've had 3 punctures in 3 years and only one of them requires anything more than a plug to fix.
      I do carry a tube just in case of catastrophic slashes to a tyre but I've never had to use it

      Yeah, not much in the way of forests compared to many other places but some beautiful landscapes nonetheless.
      If I had my choice I'd be riding forest trails in Sweden pretty much all the time but the big open views are nice too sometimes
