I just bought a Model Y, AWD Long Range….quite a big price uplift in Canada from the RWD model. When I discovered it didn’t have a garage door opener function included, I was disappointed and somewhat shocked. Over $300 for a button, plus having to replace my garage door opener for hundreds more, was ridiculous. Fortunately, a member of the Vancouver Tesla owners’ FaceBook group showed a simple, free, alternative. I stuck a piece Velcro tape on the back of a small, spare garage door opener remote, and attached it behind the lower left corner of the screen, facing the windshield. It’s not visible there, but very easy to feel and press the button.
MyQ is cool. But beeping your garage at 530 AM when it’s about to close isn’t. The scam behind not supporting universal RF frequencies is insane right now and hopefully a phase
So homelink is a must have in order to open the garage door with a tesla? You cant program the tesla to the garage like other cars where you hold the button on the garage remote and hold down on a button on the rear mirror?
I have the myq already and use it to open my door all the time with my phone. It's hard to wrap my head around them trying to charge a recurring fee to use something I already baught. Most cars in the last 15 years have a garage door connection built in. This is such a let down and I will tell everyone NOT to purchase the myq product. It's borderline criminal.
it sucks how if there's no internet it wont work. So whenever I start the car for the first time, it takes a few mins for the car to wake up so I cant close the garage door lol
I agree. I bought my 3 two weeks ago and just now discovered why I couldn't figure out how to program the garage door opener. Such a modern, high-tech car WITHOUT a garage door opener built in? Preposterous. But it goes along with Tesla no longer providing a charger system as part of the standard equipment.
The auto-close and auto-open features is hit or miss for me. I wish Tesla had a physical button to press instead of having to navigate through the screen to open/close the garage door.
Would really like to see Homelink allow more than one location to auto open (my garage and the gate to our neighborhood). And have homelink on the main screen instead of having to open controls then homelink for doors that aren’t automatically opened.
Does HomeLink still open the Garage door if while the car is locked if- for example- someone forces a window down and presses the icon on screen? I tried leaving my window down and reached through to press the MyQ icon on the screen and was a bit surprised.... curious if HomeLink will have the same behavior.
@@JKPham23 Honestly, - I'm okay to click my clicker. I know that many clickers are running non-secure protocols so someone can "read" your code and then get to your house once you are out. But would be great to get wifi-based button, which I can hit once I'm about to pull on my driveway, - so it will open garage door in secure manner. I’m using my Q for now. Just got the 2023 model Y and updated so taking advantage of the free month then will deciding if I want to order homelink. So far my Q has worked great.
Isn’t MyQ monthly? Why would you want that? Just get home link or you can get Tailwind which has the same auto open/close as MyQ and can be transferred to other cars and is less than 100bucks, only thing is you gotta setup for yourself (but it’s easy to do so and there’s many vids on it)
@@Tike22 also I don’t usually keep cars for more then 5 years. So my thing is maybe I will pay for my Q even if I pay for 5 years it’s $170+ and homelink is $350 at the end I don’t keep it just sells with my car. So do I really want to buy it ? I’m half and half on it. I was going to buy it til my Q just came out with the update. But will see in a month or two and decide.
@@Tike22 thanks for the info. Myq wants a recurring fee to use it. I already have it but I refuse to pay them continuously to use a product I already have. This company disgusts me.
I’m confused, as a 2018 Model 3 owner I’m pretty sure my car just was able to open garage doors from the screen without any installation. Did they change this in new cars?
After leaning the signal from the remote the standard mode, it goes to trying to lean the garage door door opener with the learn button. It will never sync and lean jus times out.
If you have more than one teslas, using the myQ will work on multiple cars as long as you login into the same account. The new software update on 3/Y that links the MYQ also has the feature for the auto open/close garage feature.
What a nightmare!!!! After 2 months of being out of stock on Tesla website I bought Homelink for my 2024 Tesla Model 3 for 350 dollars so I could open my freakin" garage door???. Homelink or something similar has come standard with every car I have owned in last 15 years-no extra charge. Had a mobile Tech come out who could not figure out how to install it, then had to wait another week for an appointment to take it to a service center - had car for 6 hours and they could not find a place to mount it on new model, had to take the whole front end of the car off 2 times - to finally install the module - and then the module would not connect with car when I picked up car - after they said it was ready - Mechanic took car apart in parking lot AGAIN - and I was was then told to wait a few days and see if it (ICON) finally shows up on my screen??? -Never showed up so I NOW have to fight to get a full refund. WTF??? Service center said item sold on their website is not a Tesla part so you have to go home and pair it yourself and not covered under warranty?? Tesla has a very long way to go in the car business, service and customer support - they need to study at Lexus to see how a car company should be. My advice-do not buy Homelink for $350 until they get their act together on new 2024 models - things are different and nobody is trained properly.
j'ai acheté un boitier pour équiper mon moteur de garage pour me rendre compte (trop tard) que tesla avait supprimé la fonction HOMELINK de ses modeles 3. un avantage de perdu au nom de l'économie.... très décu !

Agree will never buy myq products again this is crazy
Ig one benefit the homelink has over myq is that if ur wifi ever goes down at least with homelink ur garage will still open because myq is wifi based

if the door is locked the screen won't turn on i dont think!
You missed the most important step. Think of this for newbs, how to find the icon and where to go to get into the program screen.
So I have MyQ garage door opener. Set to D mode. Trained. Homelink icon on screen is green but garage door won’t open or close
Hmm I had trouble too. Try resetting it
@@EverydayChris so I should be able to use without a MyQ subscription since my S comes with Homelink correct?

but the other side is if you get a new car the myq could be ported over but not so much the homelink hardware?

299 dollars for ten years of service

I was kinda wondering the same thing too 🤔
we have 2 tesla then we need to buy home link 2times right? if so, what are other choices?
Yeah. But it sucks because it doesn't know one or the other so if you leave at the same time one always has to cancel theirs

Dude, how to get homelink?
You gotta buy it from the tesla store
