In fairness, you can buy a 10-year subscription to MyQ for $299, which is cheaper than HomeLink. But that’ll only work for your door. HomeLink can remember 3 remotes.
Nice video. I just picked up my Y today and was surprised it did not have homelink. When I look at the tesla store it says homelink is not compatible. I have a September 2023 LRMY built in Fremont. When was your car built? It seems I will have to take out the frunk to see if the port exists or if the removed it before I look on eBay. Thanks
I don't own a Tesla but a question for others... Do you have to go into Service mode and disable Homelink on the donor vehicle before/after removal (e.g. to prevent an error message because it cant find the module)?
FYI - I was able to uninstall the software after removing the homelink module. Just go into the service menu and run the homelink retrofit and it will uninstall the software.
I didn’t keep it very long, but I didn’t see any error messages. That’s one of the advantages of selling to a reseller like Driveway or Carvana. Let them deal with it.
I went through all the steps, moved my module from my 21 MYLR to my 24 MYLR, went into service mode on new car, when trying to enable the homelink, i get the message “Failed to update Homelink Configuration” Retried several times, but no different. Any ideas?
@@handydadtv Same problem here. 2024 MYP 2024.2.7. Tesla Service responded to me that homelink cannot be moved from one vehicle to another. Other forums online said that the service center helped them with the issue so it would be nice if I could find a friendlier service center. The only reason I went through the swap myself was because they show not available from Tesla and then I found this video. Very frustrating.
@@slackerUH We have a M3 SR 2021 with v11.1(2024.8.9) with the 3 channel Homelink still works. As stated below my M3 LR 2024 does not work but we need 3 channels thus MyQ does Not satisfy our needs.
I'm in australia and only just learned of this module. Aside from ordering it through the service call is there another way to get your hands on the module?
It was hard for Mobile Service to install when the car was new. Clearly it was designed to be installed on the assembly line before the bumper went on, but it must have been a cost optimization.
I was about to do the swap, but I am glad I read the comments first. Looks like I'll be forking out another wad of folding stuff to Tesla when my new LR arrives. Grrr!
I heard from other Tesla owners that have the 2024.xx.xx software installed that they no longer can self install the home link module. I just bought a homelink module from eBay and installed it in my 2023 model Y still running 2023.xx.xx software and it is working fine. Just worried that after a software upgrade it no longer will??! Hopefully it does. Time will tell. All I know is that if you are running 2024 software and install the module yourself it won't work
I just got my 2024 Y last week and can confirm that it does NOT work. You get an error on the screen that it needs to be debugged. Tesla service replied that I can not move it from my old Y to this new one
Thanks for doing this. I just ordered a HomeLink off of eBay for my 2023 MYP. I will be self installing.
Glad it was helpful 👍🏻
Probably one of the most useful videos I've viewed in a while. Thanks
I appreciate that, but hold on a minute because I’ve been told you can’t do this anymore.
@handydadtv i literally did this today. Tesla doesn't stop you from moving the homelink.
@carlozayne Thanks for confirming it still works.
Just so you know, it does work (maybe it was an update issue) just changed from MY 2021 to MY 2024 and it worked just fine the way you did it. 👍
Glad to hear it works again!
Thank you so much for commenting this. I’m buying a new Y this week and I saw the reports of it not working.
Extra thumb up. You answered a ton of questions all in one helpful video.
I’m glad it was helpful, but I’ve heard this won’t work on the 2024 software.
I still don’t see the value of buying this vs the homelink unit. If you’re paying $45 year it would take apps 6 years no?

Do you think it's possible to transfer my HomeLink from a Model Y to a Model X?
I don’t know. You’ll need to research that.
Homelink comes with MX & MS. Optional on MY & M3
Do you have to undo/disable software in the old car?
I couldn’t find an option to de-install the HomeLink from the old car.

Someone previously commented that the newest software may not allow self-installation.

I think the comments are correct they have made it so you can’t reprogram.

Classic car company move… make it obnoxious to install/uninstall so most people will just pay…

MyQ is free with the app
It’s also free to keep your garage door remote on your visor. But I’m talking about connecting your MyQ to the car.
