    who would have thought it that you could turn that hamburger grease into that beautiful chunk of lard

    Lil’ cabbage head? 😂❤ you have blown my mind this morning! Sweet, I can’t wait to try everything in this vlog!! I just found me a pressure cooker at a yard sale! I’m so excited at the prospect for all the new recipes I can make now! My daughter asked why I would pay $15.00 for a used 1978-1979 Presto cooker? I showed her not only was the cooker hardly used at all. It has all parts, instructions and a new seal! Can’t beat that price with a stick! 😂😂 Hi 👋 Maggie!! You are a hard worker! Thank you for helping your mom out! ❤

    I keep tallow, lard, and schmaltz for soap making. Tallow especially makes such nice soap!

      I definitely need to try making some soap with tallow, I always use lard because I have an abundance of it, I think next time I’ll try the tallow!

      @@TrueGritAppalachianWays Yes, try it! Lard is great too. We don't have pigs, but I buy lard for soap making or save the pork fat from meat that we buy from a market. Even chicken fat makes pretty good soap. lol

    Since learning that vegetable oil is one of the worst oils for your health, I've been using less processed , and therefore healthier oils for cooking. Thanks so much for educating us on the making of tallow. It is very expensive in the grocery stores so i shant have the need to buy it again.

    I'm excited to see this because I have beef bones and soup bones started in the roaster today for beef bone broth and of course that has a lot of fat that is on those. I wondered if I can skim the fat off for tallow or not because of it cooking with the meat and not being pure. I will definitely try this and the cole slaw!

      Do you have a good meatloaf canning recipe? That sounds intriguing!

    • @MsSharon
      @MsSharon ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dkaysette I'm not sure if you're asking me or Meagan but I'll tell you how I do it. I start with a pound of good ground beef. I make it different than I used to so I can get some nutrition in my great grands...lol I add in a few tablespoons of dehydrated and powdered veggies (like kale, spinach and carrots). 1/4 cup of chopped onions and a clove of garlic, chopped fine. Mix it all up and add a beaten egg. Mix again. Add ketchup as you like. Mix well and then I add crushed saltine crackers or bread crumbs. Mixing it with my hands until I can form a loaf. Start with your wide mouth pint jars sterilized and pack them to an inch headspace. I use a wooden spoon handle to make a hole through the middle. Place your rings and bands and pressure can for 75 mins with the pressure called for your altitude. When ready to serve just slide it out of the jars. Slice in half, wrap with foil and heat. I place mine in a corning ware dish to heat and serve.

    Question about the fat you saved from the hamburger. Will you be able to just use that like you do regular lard? Now, I probably wouldn't use it in baking, but would it be good to fix fried potatoes and such like that? Should it be kept in the fridge?

    • @TrueGritAppalachianWays
      @TrueGritAppalachianWays  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! I love to use if for fried potatoes or any kind of frying, it makes things brown very nicely. Yes either the fridge or the freezer. Its much harder than lard so thats why I just make it in the disk instead of trying to can it.

    What do you think about this new "cultivated chicken" and synthetic meat? Last week I believe the USDA gave approval to 2 companies to introduce "cultivated chicken" to the public.
    I had a joke about boxing but I forgot the punchline

      I'm curious about what you just commented on what is cultivated chicken?

    • @creative1877
      @creative1877 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sararich2026 the companies take stem cells from chickens and in a lab "cultivate" or manipulate the cells into meat. It's supposed to be more ethical because you don't have to slaughter an animal with synthetic meat and cuts down on "greenhouse gases" (a politically correct term for cow farts)
