I would have argued that the 2018 Jags were more disappointing than the Steelers. The jags came out of nowhere to go to the afc title game sporting a young offense and one of the most elite defenses in league history. They went 5-11.

The Jags do not have the same track record of success, so their one great year could easily have been seen as an aberration while the Steelers tend to do well, so it was more of a shock that they suddenly were struggling.

They went to the AFC Championship Game during the 2017 season and than in 2018 disappointed big time. Jacksonville in the offseason brought in Andrew Norwell to upgrade the offensive line, and they traded up to take DJ Chark in the second round.

The most disappointing teams at this point in time have to be the Browns, Bills and Dolphins in no particular order. The Browns and Bills were expected by many to be world beaters after last season. For many the Bills were an AFC Title favourite and the Browns were at least expected to be a shoe-in for the playoffs. In both cases it looks like issues of regression. The Bills are struggling on the ground. Both lines and the run game are not so hot. For the Browns it's similar to 2019 but they're performing a bit better than that. As for the Dolphins, I don't think anyone expected that losing streak after the season they had prior. At least they're rebounding with a win streak against mostly bad teams.

Despite their solid record last season their defense was bad for most of it, and once it finally started to shape up, the offense fell apart, just in time for the rams to slap them around in the playoffs. Seattle went into this season with a crumbling o-line, inconsistent defense, and a quarterback that doesn't even wanna play with the team any more. I would have been surprised if Seattle had been as successful this season.

As a bills fan from upstate NY, the bills are the most disappointing, at least for the second half of this season. They really and truly had everything going for them into this season and should be dominating. They deserve to be on this list for sure if they end up losing and not even making the playoffs.

2006 steelers. Went from super bowl winners to 2-6 at one point. They had a late season run to finish 8-8. But still no playoffs to defend title. Similar situation in 2009, super winners the year before, then mised the playoffs

I could agree with 2017, the raiders had the chance to sweep the chiefs when they were both 6-6 but fall 4 games back to go to 6-10. Offense had no identity and defense with Mack could do so much. Tough to be a raiders fan.

"Carried by Devin Hester"? Come on. He is massively overrated. His returns were fun to watch, but they're not worth more points than a normal touchdown. He had 5 return touchdowns in the regular season in 2006.

How were the 2020 Texans a disappointing team? They traded two first rounders for Laremy Tunsil, traded DeAndre Hopkins for David Johnson and a 2nd round pick, used the 2nd round pick from the Hopkins trade to get Brandon Cook who was regressing and had a massive contract, signed aging Randall Cobb to a three-year deal, and had one of the worst defenses in the league. The same defense that blew a 24-0 lead against the Chiefs. They were going to be terrible the moment the Hack Bill O'Brien traded Hopkins. Why didn't you put a team like the Cardinals, Ravens, or Broncos? They were FAR more disappointing than the Texans.
Also the 2021 Steelers, really? Not the Browns, or Seahawks, Colts, hell not even the Dolphins?

Shouldn't pretty much every year of the Browns and Lions be disappointing years? I am in my mid 60s and I can't remember even 1 winning season for the Lions and maybe only 1 for Browns in my lifetime! Tom Brady probably has more wins by himself than the combined wins of the Lions and Browns in my lifetime!

Since 2000? Not really because Browns and Lions were never SB contenders at anytime. What teams you could argue that was disappointing were the 2008 Browns, 2019 Browns, this year’s Browns, arguably the 2015 Lions and 2018 Lions.

Just an aside, Norv Turner is an excellent example of a HC who is better at what he truly is, an OC. He had better success as an OC in Dallas but sucked as a HC in Washington and San Diego/LA. Imo, sometimes coaches and coordinators are better off staying put and building on their success than allowing their greed to entice them away to take over positions they either aren't qualified for or won't do well in. Think Top College coaches (Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly, Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz, John MacKay and even Nick Saban) moving up to the NFL and excellent coaches, OC (Norv Turner) and DC coordinators (Wade Phillips) taking on HC gigs where they end up bombing. For the smart ones, they'll return to what they do best or work in a studio as analysts if they articulate well.

Yep the most disappointing thing the Steelers did in 2021? Go to the playoffs with a QB with no legs, an O-Line that didn't know how to block (or have consistent enough starters, whichever your perspective is on that), and two out of 5 defensive frontmen available for most of the games. Outside of that they disappointed.

The Houston Texans weren’t the most disappointing team of 2020 considering how a number of analysts were predicting that they’d fall off after the embarrassing meltdown in their exit out of the playoffs. They didn’t even have an impressive regular season before that.
The 49ers would take that title.
