Seriously blows my mind. You know you're onto something when Mastodon, In Flames, Slipknot AND FUCKING BEHEMOTH chills out on the side stage to watch you play!!!'
hahah yep.classic Meshuggah tactic. Offer a sense of stability, then take it away. You hear the opening lead and your brain registers it as simple 4/4 phrase.. then the drums lock into the lead melody, but the rhythm guitar goes off road, totally deviating from barriers that were suggested just beforehand.. in other words, orchestrated madness, these dudes are just next level lol
Remember: this was before the release of that album. Nobody had ever heard BTBWSGIM before. This was a new song for everyone. Totally unfamiliar. Not to mention a lot slower pace than most of Meshuggah's work.
Pretty awesome to think about what it must’ve been like hearing this song during the show. The album wouldn’t be released for another month, there weren’t any singles out yet, and then you hear this monstrous elephant Stomper of a song in concert for the first time. Lucky people
Most Meshuggah stuff is in 4/4, just listen to the hats (or cymbals etc.). Meshuggah uses a lot of odd meter/polymeter patterns, so mostly the drums (esp. Hi-hats) are in 4/4 while the guitarists/bassist play a different kind of meter. The kick drum is always accentuating those rhythms. (If I'm not mistaken lol)
Wow people read to deep into the technical aspect. Guys they've said a hundred times almost all their stuff is in 4/4. The kick is designed to match the guitars and either the ride or hi hat is always on 4/4.
+vl “dimir” le very possible. I saw them at Bonnaroo 2014 and they were tight as usual but they seemed to stumble around onstage with big smiles on their faces unlike in their headlining shows where they just stand in one place and look evil as hell. Maybe they get drunk at festivals?

Meshuggah does it best 😉
i love watching the crowd get more and more confused as the opening goes on hahaha

It's like this track has two grooves going at once.
the fact that they have two patterns going at the same time makes it polymetric... not 4/4.
Correct@@matsmcmats
This is a master class that's why they are waiting them that close...
so many gods in such a little stage
The camera can't handle the awesomeness.
Dude holy fuck I think so. I've watched this video probably 30 times over the last year and always thought he looked familiar! Nice catch!!!
What an Awesome live set~~~~!!!!!!
the perfect song live cause it's so simple, the chugs come out so nicely
stoked as fuck for Koloss
Wouldn't say it's simple. The polyrhythms are pretty fucked even for Meshuggah
How many of you know.. What 'Meshuggah' actually means?
Know it, Jens at 0.54 making complete justice to it.... :)
Isn’t it Yiddish for insane?
@@everettleach crazy, but yes
fuck they were just awesome live
saw them in melbourne....BEST FUCKING BAND EVER!
Trying to figure out why the bass players left leg looks its got elephantitus :s
Wow people read to deep into the technical aspect. Guys they've said a hundred times almost all their stuff is in 4/4. The kick is designed to match the guitars and either the ride or hi hat is always on 4/4.
Tomas usually ticks the hihat at 4/4. When in doubt, go with that hat!
2:47 intentional funny note.
I don’t know how Jens hasn’t broken his back yet hahaha
Is Mastodon's Brent Hinds at the left?
Yep
Yep, and some members of In Flames :)
thanks!!!
Hell yeah! Thanks for uploading this, one of the few bands out now I actually enjoy in this sea of crap called the music "industry"...
9 years on mate and this comment still checks out
When the drums kick in ❤
I can see Brent Hinds from Mastodon in the back!
Gingerfest 2012. LOL
In Flames are watching Meshuggah (on the left side).
@tdawgdjent The song is too hard to play while moving around, so they just stay in one place until they master the song more.
10 people got their bones whose sinews gave it motion broken.
Many a change of pants were needed that day
Brent Hinds rocking out to the side.
anthem of the daywalkers!!
Oh, I now realized that it's a Bathory t-shirt

+vl “dimir” le very possible. I saw them at Bonnaroo 2014 and they were tight as usual but they seemed to stumble around onstage with big smiles on their faces unlike in their headlining shows where they just stand in one place and look evil as hell. Maybe they get drunk at festivals?
Meanwhile in Ireland.....

hhahahahahah
6:10 Someone's head!
@gtrracer again nobody cares what you think.
@labplaylist false opinion, also it is wrong
that lead was awful...they really need to have fredrik do the lead
he's just trying to fill the stereotypical role of the fat heavy metal bassist XD
