This song title is an excerpt from a quote by philosopher, physician, organist, and 1952 Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer:
"Revenge... is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion."
It's like a super-brutal Pantene commercial.
Crow Kangi And a Guillette commercial too, don't forget the vocalist.
+Crow Kangi Because you're worth it.
+Crow Kangi For everything else, there's Mastercard.
Pantene : now with 9001% more Djent
@@iFailGames maybe she's born with it; maybe it's Maybeline.
The riff beginning at 0:29 feels like a fifty kilotonne kick to the balls, absolutely amazing!
I agree. That riff is bone crushing heavy.
It is definitely f%^kin chunky sickness
It feels like a giant spider hugs you gently %)
Damn, take a look at this metal, they don't use strings, they use bars of raw steel!!!
Absolutely true 🔥🔥🔥
I just love Jens' harsh vocals. These guys are all about truly perceiving the music completely with all your senses. Thats what i love about them.
DeaFX all that taste...
His vocals are so pro and perfect for Meshuggah I appreciate the coherent screams though I’m also a fan of dirty dirty brutal unintelligible vocals any day of the week ending in y, both are like can’t for my ears lmao.
bB4
😂lb. 6y4n.l
His vocals here is just outstanding. I'm not a big fan of guttural, growling, screaming vocals in the entirety of a song but this, this is unbelievably good!!!
@@rafanj824 I usually lk more melodic sound...but somehow his growls are melodic😂
Sirisly dude? Its not jus one big breakdown, the notes aren't very complex but are chosen carefully, making each one count even more. Their rhythms and creativity are the envy of modern djent. Errbody wants to be meshuggah. EVERYBODY
Fuck yeah
maybe not, i mean everyone wants the credit that they got for the djent technique as far as the music goes its alright but i can only listen to chugs and single tone screams for so long, its like the machine gun metal deatmetal made so infamous
I get it, it is an acquired taste, at least for me. Same with ' machine gun ' blast beats, i learned to like them but in moderation tho, they get annoying real fast in typical death metal stuff. But yeah, everything to your own taste, that is what makes us all different right?
it's not djent! not that stupid djent! it's Meshuggah!
Freal bro!
THIS is the song for a perfect workout. God damn, it's so brutal.
My two children and I adore Meshuggah and everything that is Metal. I promised my 10 year old daughter years ago that Meshuggah would be her first concert. That time, my friends, has approached and we're ecstatic. Just gotta keep her from the mosh pits. LOL
Damn. She is 20 now, did she go to that concert?
@@hectorvegasduque2234 throw ‘em in the mosh pit during Bleed. Finis
Listen to Void of Sleep. They are similar to Remission - Leviathan era Mastodon.
That is fvcking insane.
I never got to go to any concerts.
Went to my first one when i was 24, seeing the Contortionist.
THAT was an amazing show.
The phrase being played is 4 different pieces that just keep getting played in order and the fact they sound like they don't line up but are able to repeat on beat. So where they actually line up is only at the begining and the end. It's similar to the outro of Demiurge, where you have 123 hit 1234 hit 12345 hit 1234 hit and then repeat. It sounds off until it gets back to the beginning then untrained ears are able to hear the genius in these phrases.
Man. How am I only now, after a decade fully appreciating how much of a banger this is?
Meshuggah takes time to fully appreciated because not a lot of band have bee able to replicate what they're doing, and so they are still on their own mountain.
I see Meshuggah as a next-level groove metal band. They're basically pushing boundaries further than Pantera or Lamb of God, but still keep a good groove in the end.
Swarm is an excellent example too.
THIS WILL BE MY WEDDING SONG!!!!
Break those vows who's rings gave it matrimony!
@@drhexagonapus 😂
Phew, those chugs are way too juicy. I need a towel.
NotAlecks lmao wtf
I busted too. No shame in it.
"What are your guitars tuned to?"
"Um...for this song...drop Z."
Meshuggah rules.
Even with music theory my brain is like yeah Meshuggah going to need their own note in the music staff where they just black it out completely called "M"
Is it E flat?
lol its bloody DROP F
3 octaves lower than standard tuning haha
@ScorchingSkeleton23 think I read it on Google but dunno either tbh
Its almost been 10 years since this song was release, but it firmly remains one of my favorites from the mighty Meshuggah.... just grows and grows on you. Fuck yes!
This song is a form of meditation
gotta love how everyone is just playing their instruments while Jens is having a violent seizure.
MESHUGGAH always mixes trance into METAL!
Trance metal.
I would say.. for this song in particular, and even for most other Meshuggah songs.. it helps me when I think of every instrument as a percussive piece.. makes it more brutal and.. tribal sounding.
they're masters of crafting sounds that seem to come from a deep understanding with our complex and brutal nature as human beings..
just my thoughts
Damn brah, fkn great summary
That’s a great way of looking at it. The guitars and bass here really do sound more like percussion than melody or harmony instruments
Ong
Out of all the songs on Koloss, I enjoy the groove of this song the most. The rhythm chugs along like a staggering juggernaut, and the leads create an eerie atmosphere to complement the vocals as it rolls along. It's just badass.
fadefury says This song title is an excerpt from a quote by philosopher, physician, organist, and 1952 Nobel Peace Prize winner Albert Schweitzer:
"Revenge... is like a rolling stone, which, when a man hath forced up a hill, will return upon him with a greater violence, and break those bones whose sinews gave it motion."
This entire video is what I can consider the litmus test of Meshuggah as a whole, the energy they generally give off is captured in this video, and the meaning behind this vivid lyricism can give insight to their works, especially with the quote the title originates from, showing off their songwriting.
Tremors, reverberating
Frequency of doom
How strongly the violent thoughts of vengeance echo
Setting in motion the strings of hate.
Shudder
Shudder
Vibrate
This is the soundtrack to our hostility
To our malicious intent
To the pointless grudge forever held
The callow dream
The dismal wish to harm
Animate now
The twisted sounds of our disdain
Our rage
The notations to our contempt
To unforgiveness and loathing
A sonic declaration of spite and resentment
Its resonance grinding to dust our souls
The twine of revenge tightly strung.
Its sub harmonics, the undoing of all
So enticing
The retaliation - chords of man
The all-deafening - Oscillation of the damned
Let forth the hateful, the murderous
Let their malignant prayers resound
The reverberant, odious request
The wish of death abound
So enticing
The retaliation - chords of man
The all-deafening - Oscillation of the damned
Thank you for writing the lyrics. 😊
damn those lyrics are so poetically dark I love it
Theres like a rhythmic pulsing black heart..... that wants to engulf you in an eternal embrace. ;0)
Oh sweet embrace. And they do that. You are lost. hallucinating. And then they pull your head clean off.
I am SO late to the game on Meshuggah like supremely late. Always knew I respected them to some level but never could really “get it” more or less. I’m a little older and perhaps a little wiser maybe, so I think…I THINK I finally understand what the fuss is about with them lol. Absolute freaks when it comes to time signature! I’m an old metal guitarist and I’d get my butt kicked trying to play some of their riffs. These guys are from a different dimension I’m convinced of it lol. Loving what I’m hearing.
@baiseduezcke2295Is it? This song you mean?
@baiseduezcke2295 You gotta be trolling me. I’m a seasoned guitarist but admit my musical vocabulary isn’t where it should be. I’m certainly no drummer. I relistened and for the life of me can’t believe this is 4/4. You’re not messing with me?
@baiseduezcke2295 My apologies, just a little research confirms you’re correct my friend wow. That is INSANE how the guitars work around the 4/4 in a way that makes it seem odd time signature. Crazy!!
This song slams on a good car audio system. In fact, the whole damn album does!
This song slams on a talk boy in a toilet bowl.
3:20 is probably my favorite metal riff of all time.
g r o o v e
Meshuggah is groove incarnated.. it's an acquired taste like alcohol but once it hits you, omfg there's nothing else to match it
Marten & Fredrik is Legendary Duo...8 String Power!
Pretty sure this was the first Meshuggah song I heard…I was confused whether I liked it or not. It stood out though. I listened again…still “what is this”?!
Took a while. Now they’re a favorite metal band.
Even after 10 years, this song sounds very good
These guys refuse to fall into repetitive cycles. Each album always surprises me, being everything I never knew I wanted to hear.
This has to be one the smoothest polyrhythms between the guitars and drums I've ever heard. Half the time I don't even notice the up/down beat switch in that beginning riff.
The singer is fucking awesome one of the best in metal bands today
If you have 8 strings I feel bad for you son, I have 99 strings but I only use one.
rofl
Best comment 🤣
The genius is in the subtlety, lay back and give yourself to it, and you will feel it pullingg you in, keeping you interested. it's all be design too.
I'm punching concrete.
From Spain... Wow!!!
speeding up = less powerfull, less dynamic. prefer original, perfect swinging vibes through the entire body.
never heard an actual song that sounds better being sped up or slowed down... maybe if you are on hard drugs it would be better...
agreed
This video clip is without any unnecessary things!, just pure Meshuggah saw ceiling!...
"The struggle to free myself of restraints becomes my very shackles" Doesn't matter. You broke the restraints many fucking years ago.
Proud for you guys, you finally get the recognition you deserve since Destroy,Erase, Improve.
Messugah's songs sum up my whole life thus far . Been a rough and rocky road
I've seen Meshuggah 4 times over the past 11 years and I'm actually considering NOT going to see them live this tour, because songs like this one are so fucking heavy that I'm pretty sure I will just end up getting badly hurt. That being said, they are still the best live band I've ever seen.
Man!! i bow to you
most accurate description ever.
just explains all about them you knew but just couldnt put in words
does anyone else find it odd that this kind of music pumps everyone else and simply calms me down and centers me?
not at all.. i have always told my family and friends that if you hear me blasting death metal ..
im prolly in a bad mood and im trying to calm down
this looks soo much better with the dark background
Uh, It's Meshuggah.
the fact that it's crushingly heavy is kinda a given...
How does this only have 500k views after 10 years??
HELL YEAH! I am proud to have Fredrik Thordendal's guitar pick >:D
Damn it, I got into Meshuggah. my favorite bands sound like shit now..
Word
the hurt that finds you first is all about the ending. it's a tiring journey and the end washes you up on the shores of the most beautiful place. it's all about patience
Lamb of god and Meshuggah #FTW
Saw them @sonictemple 2019
Archspire!
Did we just become best friends!!!
That's what it seems like, all of us here, actually. Cytotoxin is also great. I'm on FB, if you care to FR. *Tips hat*
Meshuggah makes all my favorite bands feel less special, they provide something so utterly unique
"What should we do for our video guys? Something awesome right?" "I like headbanging." "yea thats cool"
Nice production in this video, no thematic stuff, just the band members being focused while playing.
Now that I've watched this, when kids ask me if I'm a virgin I can proudly say no.
i just saw meshugghah i got to meet jens and martin and i got martins pick during the show.. ive listen to all of Catch 33 the week it came out on 3gs of gold caps.
If diesel locomotives could walk
fredrik's hair is EPIC
put this at 1.25 speed \m/
How? :v
Michael Marnies click on settings and then go to speed and change it to 1.25
Fucking perfect. \m/
Jordan, that's brilliant. like hearing a new song! sick too
xfubar Put it on 0.5 speed. :o
This song it's a recipe for EARTHQUAKE!!!
Protest the Hero!? That's NOT even in the same ballpark as this kind of music. lol. Clean vocals over this kind of metal sounds like shit. And the bands that do it are garbage.
Fire burnating.
its actually really simple. meshuggah are so crafty, they can make simple rhythms complex and really complex stuff sound simple.
@Shnergen91 eye dare say that most people get Into meshuggah via the drums or the guitars, so brilliant are their playing, and many of those will not have been into metal. Growing up in a pop culture doesn't prepare you for such intensity. The hardest thing eye ever listened to as a kid was the jam. Metal was comedy. Then an unhealthy interest in drumming, Rush, and finally Tool helped me cross over. I truly believe both Fredrik and Tomas are geniuses, and therefore to deliver genius music, the others have to attain similar levels. Reading the lyrics along with the song is the best thing to do if you want to ramp up your appreciation for what he does and the message they wanna convey. Getting into them in my fifties means I am a bit late to the feast, but means I have meshuggah into my old age.
it's a clean cut video. throw back to what's important. the music. the preformance. that's it. I like it.
Super de brutal!!! Musica Celta, budista by emocional cósmico galáctico
tjeng tjeng tjeng tjeeeaaaahhh....yeah man!
love those riffs!!!!
The riff played during the chorus ('so enticing...') is absolutely disgusting... hands down one of the best riffs ever. Mesmerizingly grotesque and inconceivable.
5:17
This riff is sooooo heavy 🤘
That's a great definition of Meshuggah. The world's heaviest jazz band.
It turns out the scientists were wrong. The way the guitar sounds is actually the sound a full grown Tyrannasaurus Rex made.
Just waiting for my new Meshuggah CD to arrive! You're the best. Consider coming to São Paulo
once!!!!
Its amazing the debates and arguments that ensue in nearly all Meshuggah videos.
This is how a real music video should be done! A bunch of awesome musicians banging their brains out to an uber-low tuned groove.
The best thing to listen to in the car after a rough day at work.
The cymbals and general beat count usually never go up or down as far as bpm is concerned, but this band is more known for the guitars being the stable aspect. The drums in this band are playing polyrhythms in polymeters. Polyrhythms are when at least when half of what the drummer is doing isn't completely matching time meter for time meter...but eventually has a "catch up point" with everything clicks and starts over. That is USUALLY the general concept, especially with this band.
So enticing...
"A combination of the powerful and the avant-garde, the band is as visceral and imposing an act as you’ll ever see and hear, guitarists Fredrik Thordendal, Mårten Hagström, and bassist Dick Lövgren hammering out lurching, monolithic riffs as they headbang in robotic unison, vocalist Jens Kidman barking out surreal verses like a twisted drill sergeant while gesticulating like a puppet on strings." - Adrien Begrand (PopMatters)
ten years old and just over half a million views?? WTF
Yeah
One of the weirdest phenomenons of mankind lol
A lot people knows it
But 500k is low
Must be like 3-5 million
Not bad at all considering how unremarkable it is.
They can say in their interviews whatever they like, music like this requires unimaginably huge amounts of passion and focus. They may say that they just want to have fun, but their entire being as musical creatures can be seen inside their songs notes. One does not simply play polyrhythms with emotion without devoting his mind and soul on the fucking notes.
You're absolutely right. I'm a rhythm oriented guy so it's easier for me to get into them, but the only way I can enjoy it is if I surrender to the sound. Let the rhythm guide you.
I would love to have the lyrics going along with the music video. Either as youtube-subs or in it's own version with lyrics on the bottom of the screen or something
Love what these guys do and no one has been able to take it as influence and surpass them in the way they took old Metallica and so many other bands and surpassed them. They've found something unique and I love it!
hey shugah, they're playin our oscillation!
Is it just me or does Meshuggah get WAY better with every album?
Sounds like all instruments set to "Beast Mode" I saw them in Nottingham two days ago! Fookin amazing sound!!! period
Exactly,
What worked for me was taking some time to really focus on their songs and not do anything else while I was listening to them.
If your not into them now, its worth taking time to let the songs grow on you. You won't regret it.
Also liking their music will cause you to like the awesome music of dozens of other great bands who have been inspired by Meshuggah and who have taken Meshuggah's sound to new directions.
A real performance video from one of metal's finest.....PERFECT! \m/
I feel like they've come full circle. This is Meshuggah.
That drumming is so different and fitting.
great!!! you amde video of my favorite song of the new record!
Love the darkness in this album!!!
the concept of this video is quite cool
god damn.... i must say, this album blew me away... what an improvement from obzen... congratulations you sick bastards, you've done it again! awesome album!!!
wow, so nice of you
My favorite video from Meshuggah.
that was .... fooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooocking awsomweeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
Proud to be a fan.
What a groove.. This is metal.. Whos around today that comes close. Er, no one
lucky man ye be! im in montana NW. wish i would have known, would have drivin over, its only a few hours.evans g-2 heads im assuming? Damn lucky...Thomas has been on my top fav5 drummers since around 98.you could really start to him progress around that time.now every drummer is tryin to immulate his and danny careys styles.
Some great audio-coffee to start the week.
