    This is an incredible projector for the price... Benq x3100i. This projector is one of the best gaming projectors I've ever tested and it's worth a look. This isn't a laser projector like VAVA Chroma, Optoma, Hisense, LG, Panasonic, Epson, this is a BENQ Projector LED Technology

    Great review! I was wondering if you would recommend this projector over the ht4550i that you had reviewed previously.
    I'm going to be putting the projector in the living room where there is limited light control to watch movies/ party games,
    But I'm debating about if the differences warrant ht4550is price increase.

    I wanted to know why you chose to ceiling mount the XGIMI. Would I achieve similar results/performance, if I chose to mount it on the (company supplied) stand behind the couch? I intend to have it all the way back, against the rear wall. I could also prop the stand up further on top of a side/end table, to gain additional height. Thanks for all the work you put in. All the very best. 🍻

    Hello, I must say, you are doing a great job with reviews. I've seen your previous video about Xgimi Horizon Ultra and I would like to ask how would you compare Benq X3100i to Horizon Ultra in terms of contrast?

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I appreciate that. A lot of work for very little love in the way of views for this video sadly... I believe the contrast is better on the XGIMI but that is just one component to measure. It's still pretty decent for what it is - this projector is more of an all rounder - the XGIMI has other features like Dolby Vision, but has high input lag so it's not as good for gaming as this one.

    • @Podlipny
      @Podlipny 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BuildMontage thanks for the reply, so I've got Xgimi Horizon Ultra and it's awesome even at white wall. In some scenes, the contrast is slightly lower, but it's fine. Btw for gaming in boost mode, it works great. I am using it for Moder Warfare and I am unable to notice input lag.

    Awesome review. Would need your advise, I am hesitating between buying this one and trying to stretch the budget to get the BenQ W4000i.
    The projector will be in the living room, which is fairly bright, and will be used for 50% TV / 30% Gaming (PS5 / Xbox Series X) / 20% movies with the family. Projection will be directly onto the bare wall, yes I know it’s not ideal but that’s the only way I can go bigger than my current LG 55’ CX Oled (cause Mme finds a 65 TV too big, and to be fair I also am not a big fan of such large black rectangle in the living room).
    Thanks for your help.

    • @memenoihousedesu
      @memenoihousedesu 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Main difference I see is the contrast ration 600,000:1 on the x3100i / 2,000,000:1 on the W4000i. But wondering how does it translate in real life, is the difference in the black level big?
      Forgot to say we mainly watch TV / gaming / movies in the evening, so I would say 25% use during daylight and 75% in the evening. Thanks BM.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would go th w4000i if you are more interested in black levels. I will say that any ambient light will be your enemy and you should expect a diminished experience with any kind of light.

      My personal projector is the XGIMI Horizon Ultra of which I made a review video on. The BENQ x3100i is a different animal - it's focus is more toward gaming than movies, but it does have the same light engine as other BENQ 4LED projectors as mentioned - there are no movie presets only gaming ones but with a sensor you can squeeze a nice image. I like the XGIMI because it has dolby vision and I like the brightness/contrast. I didn't notice any sparkle with either projector though.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The sad part of the "review on TH-cam" mentality is people fixate on the negative things or experiences a reviewer has which is why I spend 2-4 weeks with a projector before I review it. I need to learn it, use it, calibrate it, and get to know it. Sadly a lot of reviewers don't put that amount of time in so they don't bother discussing issues with the manufacturer to give them a chance to fix things or see why the experience is bad. Reviewer or not, if you get something that doesn't perform as it should, you need to discuss it with the company to try and rectify. I think we are absolutely spoilt for choice right now, and pretty much any of these new budget home cinema projectors can make a great image if you spend the time with them to learn them, find the pros and cons and work the best way to get the best result. This is why I don't do comparison videos - it's just not fair as it influences people based on a subjective opinion. I rather focus on the projector itself and that way show it in as detailed way as possibel, and then people can make their own mind up.

    Hello, first I must say that I don't speak English well, so I use a translator to help me.
    Here in Spain that projector is around €2,897. My question is, isn't a UST projector better? It's difficult to find people who understand in the area where I live.
    I would appreciate your advice, because I have very little space. Right now I have a Benq w2000 and it is a little old and I want to change it

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not black and white. The decision to go long throw or short throw is determined by your specific use case. If you are constrained with tight space, then a UST may be the way to go. A UST has compromises with the focus uniformity due to the angle of projection so a longer throw projector is usually sharper across the whole image, but a UST is usually also brighter because the light as less distance to travel. This projector is a great entry level projector that is great for gaming so if you like gaming too - then this is great for that. If you are tight on space, you can check my channel playlist on Projector Reviews and see the many other units I've tested.

      No it's no where near an NX7 - but for the price it's to be expected. In Australia, a new NX7 was around 12K and this is substatially less. However, it is still pretty great, the picture quality and calibration features are outstanding.

    Thanks for the review, always nice to see new products.
    One thing to note - the chip in the BENQ is not true 4k as stated, the 0.65-inch DMD has a native 1080p array to which they apply four-phase pixel-shifting.

    • @BuildMontage
      @BuildMontage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct it is 1080p chips however that is the definition of True4K as defined by Benq. Native 4K is what you find with JVC with DILA chips for example :) here’s a link which explains it : www.benq.com/en-us/knowledge-center/knowledge/true-4k-uhd-home-projector.html#:~:text=This%20results%20in%20a%20genuine,a%20rapid%20pixel%20shifting%20rate.&text=In%20contrast%2C%204K%2DEnhancement%20Technology,required%20for%20true%204K%20resolution.

      The problem is that this really is a budget price for a "dedicated home theater" projector. You can buy those cheaper projectors you mentioned but they won't give you a good enough experience for a true home theater setup. This has long been answered, and there are not many "native" 4K projectors on the market. Sony, JVC, Barco, Christie, Sim2, and not many other brands make native 4K projectors, but the pixel shift or True4K displays are certified as 4K - whether it's shifting a pixel or a native chip, the method to display the required amount of pixels is achieved. I have a JVC native 4K and the picture is beautiful - but I see just as sharp and detailed images from these new pixel shifting projectors as well.
