Hi Tony great video! Do you happen to know if these units can be ceiling mounted in a light controlled room with a acoustically transparent screen like yours? Looking to plan our new home theater. Thanks

The 2000000:1 is a "theoritical" contrast rating using the laser dimming, however, no DLP projector can get anywhere close to that even the Barco and Christie projectors using DLP can only get under 10000:1 contrast for FOFO. The AWOL rating is pretty spot on. my JVC NP5 has 26000:1 and that is super dark. Very difficult with DLP to get high levels of contrast like JVC or Epson.
Mad I’m just now seeing this. Seeing you review this product is awesome! I’ve been wondering if this looked good with an acoustical transparent screen. What screen did you use for this review?
Yes the review was done on an acoustic screen in a 100% light controlled room which is why it looked so good. If you have ambient light it would be better to use an ALR screen but I dont think they make woven ALR screens, only microperf.
Great videos, with having a projector in the middle close to the screen wont it but in the way of having a middle speaker? I am about to dice into this world. But looking into the AWOL retractable screen. But just not sure how i would do a middle speaker if the projector need to be in the center also. Plus can you tell me if you have a video on the speakers you have. Ty again for all the content.
That is the single most difficult compromise with this setup - unless you have the speakers behind the screen and then you will need to get a transparent screen. It can be done - I did it upstairs in my setup for a while, I had the speaker underneith and was far back enough that it didn't hamper the experience and still felt realistic.
Great review!!! which screen would you use with these awol 3000 pro, the one sold with the projector or nothing projectors black series (which has really good comments)?
Hey dude... did you just say, that you projected with this UST on a acoustic Screen? Usually that should not supposed to work... what type of screen do you have in your theater room? Thanks for the great content and kind regards from germany🤙
This has been puzzling me that people think you can't project onto an AT screen... I have been reviewing UST projectors for almost 4 years on many different types of screens. You can clearly see in my video where I'm recording, and it's on an AT screen - and the image is flawless. I think possible the confusion lies with people trying to project onto an acoustic screen if there is ambient light. I would imagine that could be a challenge but my room is 100% light controlled. The footage is clearly visible and you can check out my room tour on my channel - which shows I have Krix MX-10 speakers behind it :)
@@BuildMontage thank you very much for your detailed answer. yes, i am following your channel since a few weeks and i was very happy to see, that AT screen is no problem. that is a real game changer for me because i have my dali opticon mk2's placed inWall 😊
Great review! Is there any way of getting rid of black bars on this or any other UTS? Is there a zoom option? Hate seeing a 120 screen shrink down to a 98.
Thank you for this video. I would appreciate if you could please advise on which screen is suitable for light-controlled dark home theater room. I don't want to spend a crazy amount on the screen if I don't have to as I am not going to watch in a well-lit area. Any help will be appreciated.
hi, a few months ago you reviewed the formovie theater. In a dark environment between the formovie theater and the awol vision 3000 pro/3500 pro, which is better for watching 4k movies?
I think I said in this video it’s the best ust I’ve tested. Nothing wrong with Formovie. I’m sure you would be happy with it but this one so far is the best.
Here's the chart that gives you all of the measurements: valueelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/AWOL-LTV-3000-PRO-Throw-Distance-Chart-1536x630.png
I did mention it in the video - the only difference is 400 peak lumens of brightness more. I think the LTV 3500 would be the ultimate but the 3000 pro is definitely great in a dark room.
Yes, my screen is acoustically transparent which in my opinion is the best use case for a UST as a concept - sound behind the screen not blocking the speakers. My room is 100% light controlled so that helps when not using an ALR or CLR screen.
I have a light controlled room and has been designed to be a dedicated movie room, I am torn now between the formovie, aurora pro and now the ltv 3000, I have my own surround sound system so that’s not really an issue and 3d isn’t necessarily a must. Since it will be only be used in a light controlled room which would you recommend out of the 3?? I really like how bright and punchy the ltv 3000 looks! I just want the best Dolby vision experience and would love to hear your input thanks!
Hi Tony, I noticed you’re using a white screen. What gain is the screen? And I know you’ve mentioned to me before that white is always good in a controlled room
Yes as it’s a completely light controlled room and is acoustically transparent woven screen it’s a great experiment. The gain is reported at 1.0 but I think it’s .8-.9 still quite bright for woven. In an ambient light situation I would definitely go with a alr or clr screen.
I have my doubts about short throw projectors but this one does look good and I'm glad they included 3D. I'm one of the few weirdos that still love watching 3D movies at home. Lol!
You aint a weirdo for 3d... I have a lot of subscribers who are really into it - which is why I had to review it - I made the mistake of calling it a gimmick once and got a lot of hate for it haha! It's actually pretty good!
Hi, if you have a dedicated black room with a blackout on the window, is an ALR screen necessary and does it make for a better picture? I'm about to pull the trigger on a UST projector and think this is the one! Cheers, Jay
No it’s not necessary. A UST projector can benefit from it though if there is any light but in my room completely black there is no reason to do so. Check the links in description - there is a special bundle with a free screen!
Come accennato nel video, la differenza di prezzo è la luminosità aggiuntiva dell'LTV3500 pro, tuttavia in una stanza con luce controllata non credo che sarà un grosso problema.
I would say if you want a UST, dont hesitate and go for the LTV 3000 Pro - if you want a ceiling mounted projector go for the XGIMI. I am going to sell my LTV 3000 Pro very soon as I decided to stick with ceiling mount. I am actually making one last video with it as we speak which will give a bit more in depth as to why you may want a UST projector.
so do you adjust the settings as you go using the sensor, like adjust the green based on the sensors readings and then go to blue and so on? or do you need a laptop....what brand of sensor is it ? @BuildMontage
Yes thats correct. I use the HCFR program which is free, and I purchased the amzn.to/4amWBUo sensor and learned how to do it through TH-cam tutorials over the last 3 years.
I am considering upgrading with this projector. But i was wondering, does the proximity of my 2 SB16 subs near (2 ft) the projector affect the picture?
How would you place the centre speaker for this setup? Can you place it above and further back from it? I feel if I would place it beneath the ust the sound would be coming too much away from the image 😅
This is a common issue with UST projectors, I was using one in my upstairs room for a long time, and I had the speaker just under it and was sitting far enough back from it that it didn't sound like it was coming from underneith due to the dispersion of the speaker.
It's a DLP so it's not going to have the same level of blacks as either of those projectors, but it's closer to the 6050 if I was to pick one. It was VERY good though as you can see from my demos.
what do you mean you have a sensor for the RGYB colors... how do you use this sensor? and how do you then make adjustments to the projector based on the sensors readings ?
It’s a calibration sensor used to measure various aspects of the projectors attributes such as greyscale, and colours. That and I’ve also learned how to use it :) or u can pay a calibrator to come and do it.

How do you activate dlp-link I bought the projector with the glasses and can't get them to work...There isn't anything in the manual that manual that addresses 3d
Nice review, thanks! Sounds like a really good UST projector. Sadly none available yet that has motorized zoom/image-shift with memory presets, so that you can change it to fill top and bottom for 16:9 to cinemascope 21:9 (and other weird formats like 1.85:1 ) on a cinemascope screen, at the touch of a button. So far, only normal throw projectors from Epson, Sony and JVC can do this. Unfortunately this limits options a lot for us that prefer an experience where a movie in 21:9 should be a grander experience than a show in 16:9. Also, due to height restrictions in my basement cinema, I could fit a much bigger/wider screen in 21:9 than 16:9, so that certainly contributed to the screen aspect ratio choice. Well anyway, maybe someday an UST can do it, but doubt it. 🤷♂️🙂
Yes the optical elements inside a UST projector do limit somewhat the ability to do lens shift and additional screen aspects due to the short throw nature. The lenses have to be aligned precisely. Maybe one day they will work out a way.
@@BuildMontagethey already have Tony. I found it. They have partnered with a company that provides a video box that connects 2 of these together for native anamorphic. So 2 X 16.9 images and the system cuts them perfectly for a 2:35.1 ratio. So money seems to be the only issue here. But if that's similar price to a nz8 what do you think is the better setup IF you wanted a 2:35.1 screen? I want to how the blacks actually compare to a JVC UNIT.
I haven’t tested that one so I couldn’t say. This is the best one I’ve tested so far overall but every projector I’ve tested has strengths and weaknesses.
Hi team, BM - bit confusing about atmos, paused the video displaying the back of the Unit showing clearly (Arc) not eArc ; however you mentioned twice that it is eArc enabled - can you please clarify? thank you for your time - it is valuable to me, regards a.g
Hi BM, thank you for the update and quick response… the reason I asked is because Arc is a compressed version for Atmos vs eARC, the experience & immersiveness is quite different…
This seems a popular question - I don't think it's a fair comparison, as it's a UST projector vs a long throw projector. The biggest disadvantage for the AWOL is the DLP light source. JVC DILA is pretty much the best in class for contrast all the way up to the pricepoint of an NZ8/9. It's unfair to compare it in that way. This projector has a lot going for it, the colours are spectacular, plus Dolby Vision, tri-colour - when I'm asked to compare projectors, it's always a general question - and comparisions require parameters and specific things to measure against. Price, brightness, contrast, light source, max lumens, colour of the projector, lens, throw ratio, throw distance, tone mapping, colour gammut - there are so many things to compare against. Yes - I have a JVC NP5 and it's black levels are incredible - but it's a different price point and has less brightness and also doesn't do Dolby Vision. So it all comes down to weighing up what you value most and going with that. Hope this long answer helped :)
I used the presets for everything in the video - my custom calibrations will not be of use to you as ambient light, screen material, screen size and the actual unit itself all differs and will not yeild the same results for you. I used Vivid mode if that helps :)
@@BuildMontage Okay, that makes lots of sense to me, same for me, I am just using their default setting of Dolby vision ( Vivid), but it sometimes depends on what video source you are looking at. Thanks for your reply! (th-cam.com/video/mBVHXSz1sAs/w-d-xo.html this is shot on my fujifilm sx-10 camera.
Lots of terms, is that the same as frame packing? I"m not an expert at 3D but it does top/bottom/side/side frame packing... Im about to show it in a new video very soon.
@BuildMontage No. Field sequential is an old system in which each frame of video contained left and right images. One eye would be be made from odd lines or field one and the other would be made from the even numbered lines, field 2. Quite often, one would buy a box which decoded the fields and synced a signal to 3D shutter glasses. It was a lousy system. One such box saw off an expensive monitor of mine because it sent a signal with too high a frequency! Some modern projectors still display it. I have had two Viewsonics which did. My Viewsonic X10 does.
Interesting - I loaded this up on my phone and the links all worked. I thought it might be a Starlink issue, though turns it is my browser. I am using Thorium as my browser, I swapped it back to chrome and it worked. Thanks for replying.@@BuildMontage
@@BuildMontage Because I use my LTC 3000 PRO in my home's basement, the 2.4G WiFi is a bit slow, so I switched from the fire stick to Google Chromecast, which has no issues with connecting to 5G WiFi. Additionally, I want to mention that I've been using this LASER TV for two weeks now. I think its biggest advantages are its color and focus, super sharp and crispy but the BLACK LEVEL is rather average. If the main character is wearing black clothes in a night scene, it tends to blend together, making it a bit uncomfortable to watch. (Maybe I'm just being too picky.)Even though I have Dolby Vision turned on, I hope they can improve this in the next software update.
Tony what size screen do you think is maximum you could push the 3000 in a light controlled media room before you compromise quality I know AWOL say screen up to 150" what size from your experience is the sweet spot thanks mate.
Btw, 24 frame was done ONLY to save money on expensive film. Before that, it was all 30 frame. It has been glorified as the film look for decades without anyone really knowing why it is what it is.
Yes this was a fortunate happenstance. 24 frames mimicks what the eye sees. When you wave your hands quickly in front of your eyes, the motion blur is very similar. So whatever the case, 24p has been known as the cinematic frame rate and that is why even in digital times films are still made this way.
Sooo Put of general curiosity how do the black levels and image compare to likes of sony and jvc traditional projectors? Currently i have a benq in my living room but I am building a mancave building woth light controlled room. Ill be looking for a new PJ in a year or so. The 3 laser system amd mote than 100% bt2020 spunds amazing
Benq are known for not having the best black levels in the market, but it's hard for me to quantify without measuring. I sometimes measure in my reviews, but this video I didn't want to use my sensor, I wanted to only use the preset modes. Either way, it's quite good and you wouldnt be disappointed if you have a light controlled room.
The disadvantages as far as I can see with screens that large is 1) cost - it will be a long time before a 120" screen becomes affordable & 2) Cinematic look to your movie - a TV just can't reproduce that cinematic look a projector and reflected light gives you no matter how perfect the black levels can be & 3) How do you get your speakers behind a 120" screen if you want a true to life audio experience? Just food for thought - I think we are spoilt for choice and innovations like this pave the way for greater things.
When watching 3D using the awol 3D glasses I was getting some weird overlapping. Sometimes it looked fine but other times it strained my eyes because the 3D was not right. Has anyone else experienced this. With this projector.
Nothing against you, I will never trust a review of a projector "sent" by the manufacturer. It is well known that manufacturers send cherry-picked units with massaged firmware and set up beyond what off the shelf units are. Only reviews of off the shelf units bought from a retailer are valid in my mind because of this. You did a good job, this is not a negative on you or your channel.
I’ve never heard of this happening in the four years I’ve been doing TH-cam. What are your sources or evidence that this happens. Genuinely curious to know. From all the anecdotal evidence my experience with this projector has been echoed by a lot of people / if you scroll through the comments you will see. I guess there is a possibility that you are correct, I’ve just never experienced this or ever heard of this happening before.
Mostly the management team of Projector Screen who stated this rumor because Formovie, who they are the only reseller of in the US, finished dead last in the most respected laser tv competition. Once again that’s how they roll
AWOL's LTV-3500 came in 2nd place in our UST Shootout Evaluation event. It beat 4 other very well respected high-end UST projectors and actually came in 1st place in 4 categories. Here's the results of our UST Shootout: valueelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/VE-2022-UST-Projector-Shootout-Results.png
LOL I went off the dimensions listed but must have gotten it wrong somehow - I'm a metric guy so I'm sorry if these are wrong!! I found the metric onesL 65 × 45 × 20 cm
Sorry to hear that.. I didn’t find it any more or less difficult than any other UST. I think it just takes a bit of practice. Start with all feet completely opened and then lower it down. People usually try and raise it which is much more difficult.
The projector shootout? I can't speak for that as I wasnt there, but I test everything in the same conditions. I have done the Formovie won that shootout - and I think this is better. It's my own opinion - you can watch the video review I did on the Formovie - its an awesome projector, but I think this one edges it out.
AWOL.wasn’t in the Shoot Out 2023, it’s run by the only US reseller of Formovie and the criteria doesn’t even measure HDR brightness. AWOL dis win the Hook Up shootout and Formovie came in last place by a long shot. Formovie has never won anything that was run by their exclusive us reseller.

Hey dude... did you just say, that you projected with this UST on a acoustic Screen?
Unfortunately not. You cant get scope aspect on this one.
Thank you for this video. I would appreciate if you could please advise on which screen is suitable for light-controlled dark home theater room. I don't want to spend a crazy amount on the screen if I don't have to as I am not going to watch in a well-lit area. Any help will be appreciated.
I have a few screen videos for UST projectors if you go into the playlist section of my channel :)
You didn’t mention whether it features HLG like it’s bigger brother does …?
hi, a few months ago you reviewed the formovie theater.
Can you elaborate and explain the price of consumables and maintenance price after laser life is over ..Love from INDIA ❤
Anyone know the projection distance for a 100' UST screen ? It always annoys me that no reviewer ever mentions it.
Here's the chart that gives you all of the measurements:

@@valueelectronics9390 Thank you.
What are the diferences between 3000 and 3500? And…this one or Formovie Teather?Which is better for a dark room? Thank you!!!
I did mention it in the video - the only difference is 400 peak lumens of brightness more. I think the LTV 3500 would be the ultimate but the 3000 pro is definitely great in a dark room.
So this works fine with an Acoustically Transparent Screen? That’s interesting, I’ll definitely look into it.
Yes, my screen is acoustically transparent which in my opinion is the best use case for a UST as a concept - sound behind the screen not blocking the speakers. My room is 100% light controlled so that helps when not using an ALR or CLR screen.
@@BuildMontage Thanks. I have a light controlled room dedicated HT as well. So, in this case, would you choose it over the Epson LS11000?
I have a light controlled room and has been designed to be a dedicated movie room, I am torn now between the formovie, aurora pro and now the ltv 3000, I have my own surround sound system so that’s not really an issue and 3d isn’t necessarily a must. Since it will be only be used in a light controlled room which would you recommend out of the 3?? I really like how bright and punchy the ltv 3000 looks! I just want the best Dolby vision experience and would love to hear your input thanks!
I'd definitely go with the LTV 3000 Pro.
Tony!!! The Beard with another excellent review on a stellar looking short throw projector.
Thanks mate! :)
B Roll of your home theater is so sick....
3D is the best way to watch, most movies. Wish they would make more movies available in 3D blu-ray.
I have the regular 2500 Awol Vision. For my dedicated movie cinema. I love it.
This is my first experience and it blew me away.
Have you tried this on a bigger screen? If not, do you think picture quality will suffer with a 135inch or 150inch screen. Thanks mate.
No I havent but I have seen it on bigger screens and it's pretty incredible for sure!
LTV-3000 or horizon ultra? Based on Dolby vision/picture quality and eArc?
I would say if you want a UST, dont hesitate and go for the LTV 3000 Pro - if you want a ceiling mounted projector go for the XGIMI. I am going to sell my LTV 3000 Pro very soon as I decided to stick with ceiling mount. I am actually making one last video with it as we speak which will give a bit more in depth as to why you may want a UST projector.
How would you compare this to your NP5? I'd love to see a review on the NP5 some day.
Different use cases. I am definitely going to do a full review on the Np5 💯
@@BuildMontage Looking forward to it mate!
Compare to formovie theater, which one would you recommend?
Depends what your criteria are. As mentioned in the video this is the best one I've ever reviewed so you could take that as an endorsement.
so do you adjust the settings as you go using the sensor, like adjust the green based on the sensors readings and then go to blue and so on? or do you need a laptop....what brand of sensor is it ? @BuildMontage
Yes thats correct. I use the HCFR program which is free, and I purchased the amzn.to/4amWBUo sensor and learned how to do it through TH-cam tutorials over the last 3 years.
I am considering upgrading with this projector. But i was wondering, does the proximity of my 2 SB16 subs near (2 ft) the projector affect the picture?
I highly doubt it. Unless you’re resting the projector on top of a subwoofer
Tony..the black levels are we talking nx5 levels or epson 6050?
It's a DLP so it's not going to have the same level of blacks as either of those projectors, but it's closer to the 6050 if I was to pick one. It was VERY good though as you can see from my demos.
I see this projector supports 24fps, how do you take advantage of that? Does the Firestick support it? Does the Roku Ultra support it?
Yes they all do.
Can I use any pre-programmed 4k firestick or do I have to use the one it comes with?
Yes you can!
what do you mean you have a sensor for the RGYB colors... how do you use this sensor? and how do you then make adjustments to the projector based on the sensors readings ?
It’s a calibration sensor used to measure various aspects of the projectors attributes such as greyscale, and colours. That and I’ve also learned how to use it :) or u can pay a calibrator to come and do it.
so do you adjust the settings as you go using the sensor, like adjust the green based on the sensors readings and then go to blue and so on? or do you need a laptop....what brand of sensor is it ? thanks

I think I answered that in my opening comments ;)
@@BuildMontage that question was to @Wimpelmann!
@@mariod8405 I wasn’t answering you, I was answering the question posted on my video.
I want to how the blacks actually compare to a JVC UNIT.
all formats are available with latest update including 32-9!
Whats your thought between this and the latest nexigo...
I haven’t tested that one so I couldn’t say. This is the best one I’ve tested so far overall but every projector I’ve tested has strengths and weaknesses.
Wich you choose for a light room, 3000 or 3500?
3500
Hi team, BM - bit confusing about atmos, paused the video displaying the back of the Unit showing clearly (Arc) not eArc ; however you mentioned twice that it is eArc enabled - can you please clarify? thank you for your time - it is valuable to me, regards a.g
Hi there - what specifically do you want to know about Atmos? And yes regardless that it says ARC, all the new AWOL models all support EARC.
Hi BM, thank you for the update and quick response… the reason I asked is because Arc is a compressed version for Atmos vs eARC, the experience & immersiveness is quite different…
… weird, nevertheless - why would a manufacturer state (ARC) as a port on the back if it actually supports eARC
@@ag121171 I don’t know I’m sorry… all I know is that I have confirmed that it’s earc for u :)
How close does the AWOL come to JVC projectors (np5,nx5,nx7) or Sony projectors?
@@BuildMontage it does, thanks a ton for your thorough response.
How does this projector perform in 4K 60Hz??? or LTV-3500
Performs fine.
may I ask your color settings? looks good!about 11:09
I used the presets for everything in the video - my custom calibrations will not be of use to you as ambient light, screen material, screen size and the actual unit itself all differs and will not yeild the same results for you.
I take it then that field sequential 3D is not supported?
Lots of terms, is that the same as frame packing? I"m not an expert at 3D but it does top/bottom/side/side frame packing... Im about to show it in a new video very soon.
@BuildMontage
No.
Awol 3000 or px3 pro which is better please
Im about to review the LTV 3500 Pro! Stay tuned :)
Them eye @ 8:42...I gotta make a gif of this....

The Christie Griffyn 4K50-RGB is probably the best projector, but it's nearly $150,000 and weighs over 200 pounds with the high contrast lens.

the fire stick 4K has some serious issue connecting wifi 5g
I only ever use 2.4. I find a lot of devices don’t like 5g

Thanks for watching :)
Sooo
Put of general curiosity how do the black levels and image compare to likes of sony and jvc traditional projectors? Currently i have a benq in my living room but I am building a mancave building woth light controlled room. Ill be looking for a new PJ in a year or so.

There's 100 inch tvs for less than 3 grand, once they hit 120 inch anywhere near that price I don't see the benefit to ust
