@@Cordiallymichemarie Great question! Ask your provider if Pyridium is safe for you to use? It can be purchased over the counter under the product name AZO. It is very helpful with the pain and discomfort associated with a UTI. Also, drinking plenty of fluids helps dilute the bacteria and flush them out of your system faster.
@@vivienjannavalenzuela9330 Thanks for the question. UTIs do not usually cause skin problems during pregnancy. Instead, pregnancy can induce a variety of skin conditions including stretch marks, mask of pregnancy, linea nigra, and acne. These are usually caused by the hormones. PUPPPs is an itchy rash that usually happens towards the end of your pregnancy but must be diagnosed in person by a healthcare provider. There are a few other rarer skin conditions as well. If you were prescribed a medication for your UTI and you developed a skin condition, you need to contact your healthcare provider immediately. You may be having an allergic reaction to the medication. If you are unable to reach your provider, you should go to the nearest hospital to be checked out if you believe this is an allergic reaction.
What if you have a uti take 2 pills and then it goes away but find out your pregnant than you start seeing pink when you wipe until that pink turns into red kind of like a period but not as much? Can it still be the uti??
I’m 29 weeks pregnant and have been having chills, fevers, frequently going to urinate small amounts of pee. Idk how everytime my doctor tested me nothing came up and today finally she called and said I had a UTI the pain on both sides of the hips plus sciatica pain I cried everyday
I am sorry you have been feeling so bad! Hopefully you dr has given you a medication to treat the infection. It's important to treat infections because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. Feel better!
Hi how are you doing? I'm 29 weeks pregnant and I had my prenatal visit on Monday 2/13/23 I was all ready felling with the constant to pee a lot and pain and like you know in every visit they test supostably for what ever is in the urine because they always ask for a urine example at ever prenatal visit and everything was ok so on Tuesday morning I was with pain Thursday 2/16/23 I had a lot of pain that I went to see a urgent care clinic and their they test my urine and it came out positive for UTI so I call my doctor and I told the receptionist about what was going on I told her that I had a UTI infection and that they prescribed me at the urgent care macaroni 100mg and I told the receptionist that the doctor from urgent care told me to let my obgy doctor what was going on. So I let the receptionist know that I was having pain and spotting and if I could get seen by the doctor for ultrasound to check everything is ok and the receptionist told me ho no we do not need to see you for a ultrasound neither for a UTI I was shok like what why?? So then I told her that if it was fine to take the antibiotics that the urgent care doctor prescribe and she's like I'll let your obgy doctor assistant to ask the doctor about tje antibiotics and it took 4 hour for the doctor assistant to contact me she told me that the doctor change the macrobid to Cefradoxil 500mg 1 capsule every 12 hours. And honestly I was expecting for the receptionist and for the assistance lady to tell me we'll come over so we can check you but no they didn't so I ended up in the hospital because I was feeling so bad with nausea and lot of pain they checked me and they said that I was having mild contractions so they wanted to check that it wasn't so to preterm labor so they checked with a swab to see if their was no delivery and thanks God it came out negative and they also told me that their was blood in my urine as well so they told me that the contractions were do to the UTI infection so they monitor my baby and baby's heart and movements were ok so I changed obgy doctor that same day hope to have an appointment with the new obgy doctor and pray to God that he takes good care. So right Now I'm still in some pain in my left side tummy abdomen and still with little contraction and little bit of spotting

D-mannose for prevention. Cranberry has NOT been disproven but drinking a ton of sugar will not help. The isolated molecule found in cranberry that helps is D-mannose. Essentially it makes the lining of the bladder and urethra more slippery so bacterial adhesion becomes difficult. Doesn’t work for everyone but can be good preventative. Also pee before and after sex.
Hello Doctor.. I am 8 weeks pregnant and I did urine and urine culture tests. It turned out that I have (UTI) caused by bacteria.. I was shocked because I had no symptoms at all.. the doctor prescriped antibiotic “Nitrofurantoin” for 7 days and recommend drinking plenty of water.. I have 2 questions: 1- What if it turned positive again after the medication? Really worried about my baby. 2- I had no symptoms, and still I don’t.. how is that possible? Does it mean it’s not risky? Thank you so much
Thanks for asking! If you take the medication as prescribed, I doubt it will turn positive again right away. If you have a UTI without symptoms, it could be that the urine was contaminated. Therefore, it's sometimes prudent to recheck the urine sample to confirm. Good luck!
@@TheMaternityMentor Thank you so much for helping people out there! ❤️ I will redo my urine tests in the next few days after my medication.. Hope it’s cured already and never comes back again..
Hello I am 40 weeks pregnant and have UTI over 2 month. I was given medication that didn't help. I did all the right things. Drink alot of water etc. I did a urine culture it came back saying their is no bacteria that is causing the UTI. Everything was negative except the UTI bt no specific bacteria. I am now on Augmentin and praying that it helps. I would really want to know if this will affect my baby by causing any birth defects. I am so sad right now.
Thanks for asking. I am so sorry you feel sad. You are doing the best thing for your baby by treating your UTI. Taking an antibiotic at 40 weeks should not cause birth defects. Birth defects usually develop in the first trimester. Its really important for you and baby that you remain as healthy as possible. Taking antibiotics is part of that. Try to enjoy these last few days of your pregnancy. You will be meeting your baby soon! However, it is ok to be sad. I'm sure this has been scary and overwhelming. Take care of yourself.
Hi. I am around 6 weeks pregnant andy urine culture came out I have E.coli, my doctor prescribed me amoxicillin500mg+clavulanic acid 125mg ONCE daily for 7 days. But some pharmacist told me it should be TWICE DAILY for 7 days. Im confused as to which to follow. Im also worried about taking antibiotic at early pregnacy. We conceived with my husband after 5 years of TTC. Alhamdulillah.
I would go back to your doctor to confirm the dosage. Taking too little antibiotics can cause the infection to become resistant and get worse. Feel better!
Hey sorry to reply after a year but I am 11 weeks and just found out I have the same infection E.coli.My gynaecologist prescribed me amoxicillin twice daily for five days I want to ask did this infection affect your pregnancy? Or you have a healthy pregnancy and baby 🙏🏻 I am so worried
Hi, I'm 6 weeks and have been prescribed MacroBID (nitrofurantoin) - I'm absolutely terrified to take them as I've read that they are not recommended? But I've also read that not treating UTIs can lead to miscarriage. I'm not particularly symptomatic- occasional stabby pain in the groin area, strong urine and urinating often. What is the best thing to do? 😭
Thanks for asking! Macrobid is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat UTI's because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. What do you think about macrobid vs fosfomycin? I was alarmed after reading the reviews and side effects women experienced when taking macrobid. After voicing my concerns, my provider ordered a script for fosfomycin.
Thanks for the question. I personally have seen Macrobid used hundreds of times and never seen a bad effect. It's a very safe and very effective medication for treating a UTI. Fosfomycin is a very effective drug that can be used to treat a UTI however we don't use it that often. This is usually reserved for treatment resistant infections where other antibiotics have not been helpful. If you are having recurrent UTIs, I would suggest the Fosfomycin. Otherwise, I recommend the Macrobid.
@@TheMaternityMentor Is the fosfomycin associated with worse side effects? This is my first pregnancy and first UTI. I suffer from pretty significant health anxiety about these types of things.
@@hutch9389 I understand. There are more side effects for Fosfomycin than Macrobid. The side effect of Macrobid that causes people to worry is a brownish color urine but that is normal while taking the medication. The common side effects for Fosfomycin include nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, back pain, sore throat, and stuffy nose.

Hi Doc. I am on my way to 18th week pregnancy to my second baby. I have been experiencing UTI before marriage. In fact, I failed to bring my first born to life due to preterm delivery because of this infection. Now that I'm conceiving again, I am really worried about the effects of my recurrent uti especially this time of my pregnancy. Previously, I was asked by my OB to get a urine culture and a bacteria named Staphylococcus intermidius was identified. Also the Alantibiotics which were safe for pregnant, I was found to be resistant. Instead my OB prescribed me with fosfomycin but I feel that its not getting any better. Can you advice me of whats best thing to deal with this? I can't stop worrying. Thanks for your response.
Thanks for asking. I am sorry to hear this is happening. The first thing is to get rid of your UTI. Fosfomycin is safe for pregnancy. Make sure you complete the entire prescription and do not stop when you feel better because that can make the infection come back and be antibiotic resistant. Also, for people who have antibiotic resistant infections, its important to take the antibiotics exactly as prescribed. This means if it's every 8 hours, you should set an alarm for every 8 hours to take as prescribed. Do not estimate. Second, many antibiotic resistant infections are best treated by taking the antibiotics for longer than you traditionally would, for example, 2 weeks vs 7 days. Also, adding a second antibiotic may be helpful. I think you should ask your provider to refer you to a urologist which is a provider who can check out your urinary system to see why you may be getting recurrent UTIs. For prevention, use all the tips found in the video. For you, I would add washing your hands prior to using the bathroom as well as after. Staphylococcus intermedius is usually found in animals including cats, dogs, cows, horses, ect. It's possible you are touching a surface where the bacteria was located and then transferring it inadvertently. If you have domestic animals like dogs or cats, keep your bathroom door closed or your toliet paper out of reach because it may simply have been they nosed the toliet paper and it transferred to you. I am not advocating getting rid of your animals. Animals are extremely beneficial to humans but this is a simple way to ensure that you don't get exposed to the bacteria again. Good luck!
Hello Mam, I am 37 weeks and 3 days pregnant, yesterday I went hospital for my routine checkup, Everything was good but my baby's weight is about 2.6 kg something, me and family are worrying about that..kindly ans me is this weight is ok or low??
Thanks for the question. 2.6kg may sound low but it sounds good to me, especially if your healthcare provider says everything is good. Usually weight is determined by ultrasound. Ultrasound can be off by up to .5kg in either direction, more or less weight. That means your baby could be bigger or smaller than that weight but in my experience they are usually bigger. Additionally, babies will grow on average .5kg per week in the last month of your pregnancy. If you go until 40 weeks, your baby may gain up to 1.5kg putting the baby at 4.1kg. Finally, smaller moms tend to have smaller babies. I think your baby is a good size for your healthy pregnancy.
Helo ma'am i am 3 weeks pregnant but i was tested positive for uti.....i met with my doctor and he said no antibiotics can be prescribed yet until my second trimester.....but am still very worried been having pelvic cramps and it's hurts more on the right side on my lower abdomen .....pls i need your help ma'am🙏🙏
Thanks for asking. I would get a second opinion. I have seen antibiotics prescribed all the time because untreated UTIs can lead to miscarriage. In the meantime, drink plenty of water and real cranberry juice. This may help flush the bacteria out of your system. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

I always try to self diagnose myself before going in to the doctor so I can give them an idea of what I think I have. So I am having contractions while urinating and needing to pee every 5 minutes. The only thing that helps is sitting on a heating pad. I went to my doctors yesterday and she assumed it was placenta previa because I had light spotting. (I am at risk for it) but I still have no relief. Is there anything we can do from home to ease the symptoms or treat it? Also is sitting on a heating pad safe for the baby? Because I know they say no hot tubs so I keep getting worried everytime I do it but I also have guests sleeping over and I’m extremely uncomfortable like 24/7
Thanks for asking! Can you tell me how far along you are/how many weeks pregnant? Have they tested you for a UTI and it was negative? Did they do an ultrasound regarding the placenta previa? So let's talk heating pad - you want to use the heating pad at a setting that is below 100 degrees F. This is safer for your baby. Do not use it for longer than 10-15 minutes and probably 4-5 times per day but you need to check with your provider for sure in case they have a different recommendation based on placenta previa and your pregnancy. Some potential sources of comfort could be a bladder program where you urinate at regular intervals and some pain relief options like Azo and Tylenol but the answers to your questions will provide some better insight.
@@TheMaternityMentor I am 15 weeks and yes the did an ultrasound and an internal ultrasound but the specialist wasn’t exactly communicating with me so I have no idea if she anything worth worrying about or not? For me I just wanted to hear the heartbeat and I did. It gave me slight peace of mind but I have tried to contact my doctor and she has not answered yet. I think they may still be waiting to results. I have had tiny blood clots a couple times today and some other discharge that was thick
@@Sarahssafespace It's very important for you to contact your doctor to determine if you have any type of placenta previa. Placenta previa is a condition that needs to be managed carefully. If you are having uterine contractions while urinating and you are starting to see blood, that is concerning. Clots, even tiny ones, shouldn't be ignored. Please understand these are signs that require caution but could be benign. You need to make sure you're doctor has tested you for a UTI. If not that needs to be done as soon as possible. I would also call your doctor about the clots and the discharge to request advice. If the bleeding or clots gets worse, call your doctor immediately or go to the hospital to get checked out. Finally, stop using the heating pad until talking to your doctor. Heat increases blood flow and may be contributing to the problem. With more details, its really important you get those ultrasound results. Tylenol may be safer for pain relief right now.
Hi there! I’m 13 weeks pregnant and 4 days. I’ve been with a UTI for a month now. My doc prescribed me nitrofurintoine did another test and came positive again so we repeated the treatment with the same antibiotic. Did the test again and it was positive, my doctor told me it is c. Koseri and prescribed me cipro for 7 days. I just finished the treatment a day ago and symptoms are still here. I have a lot of burning feeling when I pee and I go very frequently. After reading about the kind of bacteria I’m freaking out, and it’s giving me anxiety… I have an appointment to repeat the urine culture but I’m freaking out… even if the antibiotic is not stopping the infection I hope if helps to not get or something worst 🙏🏻
I can completely understand why you are so anxious! It sounds like there may be a couple things going on. First, I would ask for a referral to a urologist. You want a specialist in the urinary system to review what is going on. They may not be able to do a lot because you are pregnant but better to have experts join the team. Second, you may require IV treatment in a hospital with more than 1 antibiotic being used. This is going to be a risk vs benefit thing. Make sure you are following all the tips in the video. Wear cotton underwear at all times. Wipe from front to back when using the bathroom. Drink lots of fluids so that you are urinating frequently. Don't hold your pee. Go when you need to go. Pee right after sex and then take a shower. Drink real 100% natural cranberry juice. These will all only help the situation. They will NOT take away the infection but once it is gone, they will hopefully prevent a reoccurrence. Good luck!
@@franzizs8537 Great! I finished a nitrofuratonin for a uti diagnosis recently and my asymptomatic uti has progressed into a very symptomatic one 🥴. I’m guessing the antibiotic didn’t work, and I really don’t wanna take it again since it made me feel like crap 😩. Your story gives me hope tho. 😊

I have an UTI as well. I took the first pill of nitrofurantoin mono-mcr a day after they gave it to me in the hospital. It was blood found in my urine. What happens if i felt a little sick so i stopped for a day or more. I will be 10 weeks soon and haven’t been to the hospital since February 22. Will my baby still be ok? Cause i really don’t want a miscarriage on my first child I’m very worried.
Thanks for asking. If you have a UTI, it is important to take all the medication as prescribed. UTIs can cause miscarriage if left untreated. Nitrofurantoin can change the color of your urine making it look like there is blood in it. So, you should check with your provider to be sure what the color is from. Also, after a few days most UTI symptoms will go away but you still need to take the medication otherwise the infection can come back and be worse. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
Hello doc! I’m 24 was pregnant and tested positive for UTI. My midwife prescribed me for trimethoprim (Tablet) 100 mg every 12 hours for 7 days Take with food Quantity: 1400 mg I would like to know is it safe for my pregnancy?
Thanks for asking! Trimethoprim is a folic acid inhibitor meaning it will reduce your folic acid. This can be harmful to your baby. However, having a UTI can also be harmful. I would ask your provider if this is the only medication you can take for your infection or if there is a safer option. If nothing else is available, I would follow your healthcare provider's advice. Feel better!

Thanks for asking. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. There are some risks of taking these during the first trimester. You need to take a pregnancy test AND go back to your provider to evaluate if another antibiotic can be used. I cannot stress this enough, if you were prescribed an antibiotic for a UTI, you need to treat the UTI. Untreated you can become septic and have a miscarriage. However, there may be other antibiotics that can be used.
Thanks for asking! It's important to treat UTI's because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. Feel better!
I am 37 weeks pregnant and having uti. My doc gave me 2 weeks treatment and it still not going away. She said I still have a little trace and she cannot give me anymore medication. She told me to drink enough water to get rid of the balance. I am so stressed out. I keep myself as clean as possible I am not even having sex. Why do I have this Stubborn UTI? My discharge is normal, I have no symptoms. I am worried if it will affect my baby😭
Thanks for asking! I am sorry to hear this is happening. Stubborn UTIs can happen. Sometimes UTIs hang around because a different antibiotic needed to be used. That is not your providers fault - providers start with the antibiotic that works the best for most people. They can't just start with the strongest one on the market because this can cause antibiotic resistance. When a women is 37 weeks pregnant, the baby puts pressure on the bladder making it hard for you to completely empty it when you use the bathroom. This can lead to a UTI hanging on. Your provider is right. Drink lots and lots of fluids, including 100% real cranberry juice (unless you have diabetes or another medical condition that you should limit sugar). UTIs do not affect our babies unless the infection enters your bloodstream. Monitor your temperature, look for signs of illness and lower back or side pain. If you have any of these, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Also, watch out for a change in your discharge including change in color, smell, or bleeding. If you see these things, contact your provider. Finally, make sure your baby continues to move the way you normally feel the baby move. If you think the baby is moving normally, contact your healthcare provider. Follow the other tips in the video and I think you will do well. Over the next few weeks if you are fine, just remember to ask your provider to check your urine for infection after birth to see if the UTI has completely resolved. Good Luck!

Thanks for the question! Unfortunately some women have more UTIs during pregnancy than others. It can happen for a variety of reasons. It could be that you have a very short urethra making it easier for bacteria to enter. It could be the baby is positioned in a way that makes emptying your bladder difficult. When the urine sits inside too long, we develop a UTI. It could also be that the bacteria isn't being killed by the antibiotic because it is resistant. I would ask your healthcare provider to refer you to a urologist. These are doctors who specialize in the urinary system. They may be able to evaluate you further to determine why you are having so many infections. They may also recommend that you go on an antibiotic for a longer period of time than the standard course to ensure the bacteria is killed.

Good day doctor, I'm 16 weeks and my ob prescribed me ampicillin 500MG. Is it really safe and won't hurt my baby? I am scared to take it and I should take it 2x a day. And what is really for !? Thank you.
Thanks for asking! Ampicillin is used commonly during pregnancy for the treatment of infections. We also use it to prevent infection when you are having a cesarean section. This antibiotic is safe for use in the first and second trimester when benefits outweigh risks. UTIs can be very dangerous during pregnancy because they can cause miscarriage and preterm labor. Please make sure to take all the medication as prescribed. Do NOT stop taking it when you start to feel better. This can cause the infection to come back worse later on. Good luck! If you can, please like my video and subscribe to my channel. It really helps me out! Thanks!
Thanks for asking! Ciprofloxacin as limited safety data for use during pregnancy. If another antibiotic can be used, it should be tried first. Ask your healthcare provider, why they chose that antibiotic. If your urine culture showed that was the best choice, that is a good reason to use it. Feel better!

Hi I’m 5 weeks pregnant and went to the er yesterday due to spotting and whenever they checked my urine it came up that I have a uti so they prescribed me cephalexin 250 mg (2 pills ) 4x a day and they also did a vaginal ultrasound and baby is fine but since I left the er the bleeding has gotten brighter red and I’ve also felt light cramping in my lower abdomen/lower back I called the er to see if I should go in and they said It sounds like uti symptoms and i should be fine then hung up but im still worried because the spotting is turning darker red each time but not heavy like period. Is the bleeding due to the uti infection or could I be miscarrying?
Thanks for asking. I'm sorry to hear this is happening. Bleeding can be very stressful. The bleeding could be caused by the UTI but it can also be caused by a miscarriage. You should continue to take the antibiotics to treat the UTI and reach out to your personal healthcare provider so they can examine you. The UTI can cause uterine contractions which can irritate the placenta causing the bleeding. However over time this can cause the placenta to fail. Call you healthcare provider and get checked out. Sending you love and light and healing thoughts!

I also had covid so I didn’t get the urine tested by the doctor because I was in isolation so I tested it myself and it said I had a UTI but didn’t know exactly which bacteria it was. The doctor then prescribed me Cephalexin without testing my urine. Is this okay? Is it possibly harmful?
I'm sorry to hear this. I would ask your healthcare provider if they can give you something for the nausea like Zofran or Reglan. Just for the next few days. Also ask about Vitamin B6 which can help with nausea. If things get really bad, ask if they can switch you to a different antibiotic that is better tolerated, like Amoxicillin or Macrobid. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
@@TheMaternityMentor thank you so much! Scares me to have no appetite because I know I need to feed the baby. Hopefully a day and a half of smaller portions doesn’t hurt the baby. Just gonna try soups and crackers for now

If it makes you feel better, I also had covid when I was about 20 weeks pregnant and that was scary too but she is just fine ❤️
I’m 22 weeks pregnant and have had 4 UTI’s during this pregnancy. I have been prescribed macrobid each time and the first few days of the medication are horrible for me. Headaches, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. Do you have any recommendations for all of this to stop? 😢

Mam, I tested positive in urine test and also vaginal swap. E.coli(++++) is present and yeast(+) also. Is there any problem for future pregnancies? Please mam tell me, is this curable or not? Please mam. Waiting for your answer
Thanks for the question! E.coli is a very common cause of UTIs. It is often found in and around the rectum as well as in feces. Because our rectum is so close to the urethra and vagina, if we are not careful when we wipe after using the bathroom, we can get an UTI caused by E.Coli. Make sure when you are using the bathroom, you wipe from front to back, or from the vagina down to your bottom. Never the other way around. Having E.coli and/or yeast in your urine should not affect future pregnancies. It is absolutely curable. make sure you take the antibiotics prescribed by your healthcare provider.
Hello .Thank you for all .l'm 24 weeks pregnant. Last time l went to hospital with left side back pain.l got oral antibiotics and a lot of liquid as well as ozone therapy. After a week l have right side back pain. The last urine test was clean. What could l do now .l got antibiotics 10 days.after a week accepting them again may cause overdose or not? According to ultrasound my baby is 300 gr heavier than normal?
Thanks for asking! Taking a second round of antibiotics will not cause overdose. This is often required for a severe infection or an antibiotic resistant infection. As for your baby being heavier, antibiotics and UTIs do not usually cause this. It may just be right now and later on in the pregnancy, the baby's weight will adjust back to normal. Continue to drink lots of water which will help clean your kidneys out and hopefully help avoid another UTI.
Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat infections because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. Feel better!
Thanks for asking. Amoxicillin is safe for use during pregnancy. However, you want to make sure you get examined and that you have a urine test performed. The test can tell your provider what type of bacteria caused the infection so they can prescribe the right medication. Good luck!

Hi please reply I am 7 week pregency i have only burning sensation after urination so my doctor suggested to use disodium hydrogen citrate syrup and fosfomycin powder .. Can i use it
Thanks for asking! The fosfomycin is safe for use during the first trimester when benefits outweigh risks. It's an excellent choice for treating a UTI. Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the other medication and therefore cannot say whether it is safe or not. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

Ma'am I have mild cramps in pelvis area and frequent urination.i am 26 the week pregnant..due to alarming covid situation I preferred to drink lots of water and wait for a day to see if my situation improves by water itself at home..and it is getting better...cramps is almost gone...should I still visit my doctor?
Thanks for the question! It's always recommended to go and see your doctor when you are cramping during pregnancy. Unfortunately, I am aware of the Covid situation making seeking treatment complicated in many parts of the world. Sometimes women will have cramping because they are dehydrated which can also contribute to getting a UTI. You should seek medical care immediately if the cramping gets worse, if you start bleeding or leaking, if your baby stops moving, or if you develop fever or other symptoms of infection. Keep yourself hydrated and use all the tips in the video. If you can call your doctor and speak to them over the phone, I think that is best. Good luck!

Good day doctor. My doctor recommended cocodamol because I complained about pains and fever. I have read online that cocodamol is not good for pregnant women especially women in their first trimester. I am only 9 weeks pregnant. Is it safe for me to take cocodamol?
Thanks for asking! This medication is basically Tylenol with codeine. Tylenol is safe for use during pregnancy but I would avoid codeine unless it's absolutely necessary, like surgery or broken bone. So I would not take this medication and instead ask for plain Tylenol. Also, your doctor needs to investigate why you have a fever to begin with. Feel better!
Thanks for asking. UTIs don't affect babies but they affect your pregnancy which can affect your baby. Any infection increases your risk of preterm labor. Preterm labor can affect your baby because it can affect lung development and gut health to name a few effects. It's important to treat UTIs to prevent this. Additionally, untreated UTIs can lead to sepsis in a mother. Sepsis is a blood infection and that can be dangerous for your baby because of the effects it has on you. If you can, please like the video and subscribe to my channel. It really helps me out.
Hi, I’ve had a uti since 8 weeks. I drank a Nitrofurantoin prescription at 8 weeks. Now a second dose at 14 weeks. Because I’ve had a UTI and antibiotics are now working, what risks am I facing? I’ve also had BV and took Flagyl. I have been taking antibiotics for almost my entire pregnancy.
Thanks for asking! Antibiotics are generally safe for use during pregnancy. However, it's very important that they are used sparingly when possible. If you are having treatment resistant UTIs, you need to make sure your urine is being cultured to determine the best antibiotic to use. They should also send you to a urologist who can run tests to determine why you continue to have UTIs. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

Hello mam.. I am 30 weeks pregnant. I took urine culture& sensitivity test.. And the result say citrobacter koseri.. And doctor prescribed Nitrofurantoin tablet.. Is that okay.. I am pregnant after 12 years.. That infection doesn't cause anything to my baby na.. Please reply..
Thanks for asking. The medication that your doctor prescribed is safe for pregnancy and is often used to treat UTIs because it is so effective. It is very important that you get treated. Citrobacter koseri can cause serious problems if the infection is transmitted to your baby. While pregnant, the infection can transmit to your baby if you develop chorioamniotis which is an infection in your uterus or if you develop sepsis which is an infection in your blood. This can happen if you leave your UTI untreated. Make sure to take all of the medication as prescribed by your doctor to avoid this from happening. Good luck!

Hello doc. I am 25 weeks pregnant and have enterococcus faecelis bacteria in urine culture since 9 weeks pregnancy. Doctor prescribed me various antibiotics since then. But the infection is still present. Should i consult a urologist? I am afraid that the use of these many antibiotics might reflect on the baby's health even after birth or after he grows.
Thanks for asking! Yes - you should be seeing a urologist to do some further testing to see what may be causing the issues. You may need IV antibiotics. Feel better!
Im having the issues I have taking antibiotics but it's not working, i don't even know what do nxt ,i had a miscarriage last month and month I'm pregnant again and my UTI is getting worse what should I do please help.
Thanks for asking. UTIs are very common during pregnancy. If left untreated, it can be bad for mom and baby. However, pelvic pain can be caused by other infections as well as structural issues like round ligament pain. She should visit her provider so they can investigate it further. If it is a UTI, make sure she takes the medication being prescribed to her.
I have candida infections since 4rth month of pragnancy now i am 6th months i already have preterm labour i visit the doctor she recommended veginal ovoules after using this i have no discharge but my pelvis and back pain are increasing day b day kindly advise me
Thanks for asking! Vaginal suppositories are often used to treat yeast infections. This should help with discharge but back and pelvic pain are not good signs. You need to contact your healthcare provider and be evaluated as these can be continued signs of preterm labor. Good luck. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.
Thanks for commenting. This happens commonly during pregnancy. If you don't have any symptoms, be sure to have them test your urine again. Sometimes it can be contamination that causes a positive result. If you are symptomatic and have been prescribed a medication, be sure to take all your medication as prescribed. Stopping it early can cause the infection to come back worse. Good luck!

Thanks for asking! The infection should clear again as long as you take all of it. UTIs are common during pregnancy and can reoccur. The best way to prevent this is to drink plenty of fluids and go to the bathroom often. Do not hold your urine. Be sure to wipe from front to back when using the bathroom. Change your underwear often and wear cotton underwear if possible. Good luck!
Hi, I am 10 weeks pregnant. And have pus cells around 12-14. No symptoms other than itching. Is it necessary to take antibiotics? My family doctor prescribed cephalexin, whereas doctor here in my city is saying that no need to take medicine. I am confused. Because I trust my family doctor more.
Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy. I can understand your concern and confusion. I would recommend you have your urine retested. It's possible there was some kind of contamination. If the urine continues to test with pus cells, I would consider taking the medication. If they are absent, then you are good to go. Also, the itching makes me concerned more about yeast which cannot be treated with cephalexin. Your healthcare provider should swab your vagina and test it for yeast or other bacteria. Good luck!
Hi, I was diagnosed with group B and uti I was given cephalexin 500 mg 4x daily after that + 1 pill a day for remaining of pregnancy. I’ve been on this meds since 19 weeks in currently 24 and wondering how safe is it to take for the entire pregnancy?
Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy however I would be asking for a second opinion. In the United States where I am, we test women right before delivery. if she tests positive for Group B Strep, we treat her during her labor and delivery. If she develops an infection earlier and it is related to Group B Strep, we will treat it then for a set period of time however we do not use daily antibiotics in general. It can create antibiotic resistance and make it more difficult to treat future infections. I believe your baby should be just fine. But I am concerned about the use in general. However, there are other factors that I do not have the information for, so do NOT stop taking the medication without speaking with your healthcare provider first. Feel better!
Thanks for the question. Antibiotics have been found to be safe for the baby. Additionally, the infection they are treating is far more harmful. The exceptions are Tetracyline, Streptomycin and Kanamycin.
Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. UTIs can have serious effects on your pregnancy including preterm birth and miscarriage. Cephalexin is very effective at treating the UTI which is why doctor's use it. Make sure to take all the medication as prescribed. Do not stop when you start to feel better because the infection can come back worse. Feel better!

Please can you give insight and opinion on taking a long term antibiotic for recurrent uti’s. The name of the antibiotic is keflex 500 mg once daily. I am currently 7 months and trying to trust my Ob. Please help
Thanks for asking! At 7 months pregnant, most of your baby's development has occurred. Now your baby is mostly getting bigger and their organs are maturing. Long term use of Keflex should be safe. My only concern would actually be that you develop a yeast infection. Yeast infections, like all infections, can trigger preterm labor. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider about what you can do if a yeast infection develops. Also ask if you can start taking a probiotic which may help prevent one. If your doctor has prescribed the medication daily, it is important not to skip any doses. If you do, the infection your doctor is trying to treat may become antibiotic resistant and require stronger medications which may not be as safe for your baby. Good luck! If you can, please like my video and subscribe to my channel. It really helps me out! Thanks!

Im 38 weeks pregnant and i have uti and infection of blood and my doctor give me antibiotics 2x a day but she said my baby is healthy...i just want to know if i had a severe uti and is can be dangerous for my baby and is there possible i caesarian?
Thanks for asking. Our bodies are amazing and will do everything they can to protect our baby's. If your provider says the baby is healthy, that should be accurate. Make sure to take all your antibiotics to clear up the infection. An infection can sometimes increase the need for a cesarean section if it has not been treated and resolved. This is usually because fever in a mother can cause the baby to have an elevated heart rate making it more difficult to tolerate labor. UTIs that are effectively treated should not require a cesarean section delivery.
Can UTI cause bleeding in pregnancy? I started spotting on and off after sex at 10weeks. I went to the hospital they said possible UTI but baby seemed fine. I won’t get a scan for another two days so 10days after it began. We haven’t had sex still but bleeding has continued. UTI won’t be confirmed till my scan either. I notice slight sting in my vagina lasting only a second sometimes like there a cut or irritation inside. I haven’t had any abdomen pain out of the ordinary
I'm sorry to hear this is happening. It sounds very scary. It's possible it’s just slight vaginal tearing that caused the drops. The vaginal tissue gets very thin during pregnancy and can tear easily. UTIs can also cause bleeding so you need to monitor the bleeding carefully. If they are treating you for your infection, make sure to take all the medication as prescribed. I am sending you love and light and healing thoughts.

Finding relief for the inflammation and discomfort that is safe.
@@Cordiallymichemarie Great question! Ask your provider if Pyridium is safe for you to use? It can be purchased over the counter under the product name AZO. Does U.T.I causes Skin problem during pregnancy?

I hope everything well well and you are all ok xx

D-mannose for prevention. Cranberry has NOT been disproven but drinking a ton of sugar will not help. The isolated molecule found in cranberry that helps is D-mannose. Essentially it makes the lining of the bladder and urethra more slippery so bacterial adhesion becomes difficult. Doesn’t work for everyone but can be good preventative. Also pee before and after sex.
Thanks so much for your comments!
I have 2 questions:
1- What if it turned positive again after the medication? Really worried about my baby.
2- I had no symptoms, and still I don’t.. how is that possible? Does it mean it’s not risky?
Thank you so much
Thanks for asking! If you take the medication as prescribed, I doubt it will turn positive again right away. If you have a UTI without symptoms, it could be that the urine was contaminated. Therefore, it's sometimes prudent to recheck the urine sample to confirm. Good luck!
@@TheMaternityMentor Thank you so much for helping people out there! ❤️
I will redo my urine tests in the next few days after my medication..

How's your baby ??? Now after course of antibiotics ????

Hey sorry to reply after a year but I am 11 weeks and just found out I have the same infection E.coli.My gynaecologist prescribed me amoxicillin twice daily for five days
I want to ask did this infection affect your pregnancy? Or you have a healthy pregnancy and baby 🙏🏻
I am so worried
Hi, I'm 6 weeks and have been prescribed MacroBID (nitrofurantoin) - I'm absolutely terrified to take them as I've read that they are not recommended? But I've also read that not treating UTIs can lead to miscarriage. I'm not particularly symptomatic- occasional stabby pain in the groin area, strong urine and urinating often. What is the best thing to do? 😭
Thanks for asking! Macrobid is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat UTI's because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. Feel better!

Good luck!
Thank you so much and ill be taking all your advice.

Hi.... I have a burning and painful urination. Can you suggest me that will get rid of this?

Good luck!
How did things go?
@@GodsInstrumentKay they tested me again and it was negative. Didn’t have any other UTI in the rest of my pregnancy!

Hi mam’ 🌸 is Austell-Ciprofloxacin a harmful antibiotic during early pregnancy before missed period ?
Thanks for asking. Ciprofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. There are some risks of taking these during the first trimester. You need to take a pregnancy test AND go back to your provider to evaluate if another antibiotic can be used. I cannot stress this enough, if you were prescribed an antibiotic for a UTI, you need to treat the UTI. Untreated you can become septic and have a miscarriage. However, there may be other antibiotics that can be used.
Hi doc, currently I m 35 weeks pregnant I have uti staphylococcus aureus bacteria,is there any serious
Good Luck!

Im 9 weeks pregnant i have uti infection 3 time and i used antibiotics but my symptoms r not going away im suffering badly i really dont know what should I do? When im going for test my tests r showing negative but i have white bleed cell in my urine i really dont know y i have this ?

Thanks!
Hey Doctor is ciprofloxacin 500g safe for treating UTI infection in pregnancy?

This was good

Hi doc i am currently 7 weeks pregnant and was prescribed cephalexin, will that cause miscarriage?
Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat infections because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Good day doc , I'm not feeling well I think I have UTI can I take amoxicillin 25weeks pregnant . .. doc can I ask for advice
Thanks for asking. Amoxicillin is safe for use during pregnancy. However, you want to make sure you get examined and that you have a urine test performed. The test can tell your provider what type of bacteria caused the infection so they can prescribe the right medication. Good luck!

Good luck!

Should i stop using it? Please notice me and hope you can give me the answer. TIA
Thanks for asking! Cephalexin is safe for use during pregnancy when the benefits outweigh the risks. It's important to treat infections because they can cause preterm labor and miscarriage. Be sure to take all the medication as prescribed by your healthcare provider or the infection can come back worse. That being said, you may be having an allergic reaction.
If you get uti during pregnancy is there a chance to affect your baby when born?ty❤
Hi,
I’ve had a uti since 8 weeks.

Thank you for this video. How about itchy vaginal opening as part of the symptoms?
Thanks for asking! Itchy vaginal opening could be a UTI but it is more likely to be caused by a yeast infection, change in your normal vaginal flora due to pregnancy hormones, or dry vaginal tissue also due to change in hormones. Good luck!

good morning ma’am, my wife is 14 weeks and she has uti, her pelvis hurts a lot and i was asking if it’s common and if it damages the baby

My last month lab test was ok I don't have UTI, but this day I had my lab test again and it shows that I have UTI...
