    You got one minor thing wrong. The old world did not blow up after the age of myth. It blew up before the age of myth during the End Times.
    The timeline goes like this:
    The End Times - The ending of the old world (and the old fantasy setting)
    Age of Myth - Sigmar discovers the Realms
    Age of chaos - chaos invades the realms
    Age of sigmar - Sigmar invades the now chaos infested realms

      Also another thing that was incorrect was saying every faction within the "Grand Alliance of Order" is heroic and noble as that's incorrect as the faction my Witch Aelf character is part of the Daughters of Khaine are according to the lore very brutal vicious anti-heroines that on multiple occasions have to an extent stepped into the role of anti-villains.

      What is especially interesting: between the death of the "old world" and the Age of Myths, epochs have passed, perhaps millions of years. Life flowed on its own course. And when Sigmar arrived with his company, not all the aborigines were glad to see him.
      Also important: The great Old Ones (who re-shaped the "old world" in the likeness of the Earth and inhabited it with humanoid races)... Somehow, they visited the Mortal Realms before Sigmar.
      They created magical portals (Realmgates) and left hints for Slann when they arrive for "how to continue the Great Plan".

    I really enjoyed the video, and feel Cubicle 7 should send you a commission for making the sale for me. Also, I appreciate that you think that a 20 minute video is going long; TH-cam is full of gasbags that can turn a 17 page Unearthed Arcana release into a Wagnerian 3 hour bore fest. Well produced, scripted, and paced. Keep up the good work!

    I think you've confused mechanical progression with campaign play. The two are tied together in D&D, but don't have to be.

    • @DaveThaumavore
      @DaveThaumavore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know what you're saying here, but do you care to expand?

    • @corrinmana9324
      @corrinmana9324 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@DaveThaumavore Getting new abilities and higher numbers isn't necessary for long campaign play. Because D&D is so heavily focused on it's progression system, a lot of people equate RPG with leveling system. (See the video game industry) But the core of roleplay is acting, improv, and storytelling, none of which need statistical growth.
      Some systems have actually built flat progression or minor growth into their system. Fate allows you to gain skills after major milestones, but restricts players to swapping skill ratings in the sort term. You can add Aspects, but since you have to spend currency to use them, this doesn't really change the power level of characters. City of Mist has a similar "you can only grow so much" approach to it's progression, with themes being exchanged as characters evolve, rather than straight growth.
      You equated this to super heroes, and I think that's a good idea. If you look at super heroes, they do occasionally grow in power, but this often is writers lacking a good idea, or playing too wobbly with their own constraints. Good superhero stories are about how you use your power, not how strong you can get.

    They don't seem to have a quickstart guide so I can't check it for myself, but is this a roll and add kind of dice pool system (like the D6 system) or a roll and count successes? It seems to be kind of... both?

    • @DaveThaumavore
      @DaveThaumavore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s really a count the successes system. You have Focus points in skills that can add points to die results, but that’s only to edge your numbers towards more results.

    • @allluckyseven
      @allluckyseven 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveThaumavore And you discount sucesses (so point for point) from the creature's Toughness? If it's 20 like the one in the video, it could take a while...
      That could be the intention, though...

    • @DaveThaumavore
      @DaveThaumavore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@allluckyseven Yeah, toughness is the HP. The maw crusha in the video's example is a tough boss. But with a party of four casting crazy spells and hammering away at it, you could whittle away all that Toughness in just a few rounds.

    Hmmm... I can't help wonder if this could be combined with WFRP 4e..? I'm a WFRP 4e fan (although I'm NOT an expert - far from it) but as a GM trying to set up games for the players, I do get the feeling that they're not all that into all the backstory stuff for the characters, too much wandering around without core purpose for doing so, plunging into encounters/combat with minimal strength, poor weapons and armour (after all they're just some poor people or whatever who just became hungry for adventure, etc.). I do have a hard time getting my kids into RPG (they've been kind enoug to try...) as they're used to digital games with hardcore actions being the heroes with heavy weapons or abilities... I do try to adjust the settings and startingpoint, etc. but it's tricky as you have to start somewhere. But maybe Soulbound combined with WFRP could work? I don't know, just throwing it out there...
    Anyway, great review of the game.. Love it!

    • @DaveThaumavore
      @DaveThaumavore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don’t really need to adopt anything from Soulbound in order to infuse power in your players’ characters and purpose to their quest. Those are more general tweaks.

    • @crowgoblin
      @crowgoblin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We’ve mixed Soulbound and 4e, using d6s and if a stat (for example Ballistic Skill) is 45% you get 4d6, just like how it converts SB and TB using only the tens. Same character career progression from 4e, it’s just purely a mechanical resolution change from d% to d6.

    Just wanted to let people know if they're coming back a year later, they have by now released a book that lets you play properly as factions from the destruction roster, but sadly still not anything from Grand alliance death.
    I'm not sad that chaos hasn't gotten an expansion yet constantly wanting to destroy the world kind of bores me.

    • @DaveThaumavore
      @DaveThaumavore  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, probably the only kind of all-Destruction campaign I’d want to be a part of would be the kind where the PCs are in opposition to their natural goals.

    • @Sara3346
      @Sara3346 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DaveThaumavore Indeed, leaving the players in the position where it would be hard to make complimentary goals is something I could see as a problem for the destruction factions.
      Like giantkin, or whatever they've renamed them to, seem like they mostly want to make everyone their slaves, but gloomspite gits would probably want to empower their spider god and I'm not sure how those sorts of things could be compatible with each other.
      That's sort of why I'm sad that they started with destruction instead of death, because the death faction actually wants to change the whole status quo rather than preserve it or blow it up.
      Thanks for the reply :-)
