As someone who has tried to get into 40k and now AoS all I can say is: Never let anyone talk you out of the faction you love. I've wasted a lot of time and money trying to find my faction. Years ago I wanted to go Skaven but everyone said to avoid them because they "suck" and they're "old". This year I decided to go for it anyway. Skaven are my home faction. Because of these rats this hobby was saved for me. Don't let anyone ruin the part of this hobby that called to you.
It was the same thing with me and Seraphon - I had been cajoled into thinking the kits sucked because they were old. I dove in anyway, and no regrets, I love my lizards!

This has been a huge help, been looking at AoS for my next project once my 40k army is done and... boy I didn't realize they had so many factions already. (I used to play WHFB but that was a looooooong time ago, I sorta had no idea what to expect.)

Ogors are simple and I love them. They are an elite army which is nice in that there are less models to carry about. It also lets/forces me to take more time painting them so that they look good on the tabletop. I hope they get some plastic kits for their many fine-cast models.

So nice to find an AOS channel that I can understand what is being said. So clear and pleasant talking, and well thought out. The bar isn't very high with AOS videos, as most others sound like an audio rollercoaster for one reason or another.. but your videos are just amazing anyways and well beyond. I wish you would do more things related. In depth Battle tomb reviews, GHB explanations, everything :) You're like the Casey Kasem of AOS.

For this video I really like it. I like how you go over the models while describing some lore etc. about each faction. That's awesome.
AoS lore started in a really bad place, it's since become GW's most dynamic setting.
As a massive undead fan the fact that Ghosts, Zombies, and Skeletons are their own factions has me excited to no end to play this game

Great summaries of the different armies and how the sun factions can play into builds.
In my experience it's best to start with the rules books for the faction you're interested in. Get the faction and sub factions particulars down, to work from the ground up when army building. Save some time money and frustration for new players just getting started.
This video is a real service to the community, my hope is that you make videos like this every now and then to keep up with releases and the meta. Huge fan of your content.

1:00:25 they come in pairs, but the actual unit is either a single mancrusher or three, so you need one box to play two or three boxes to play two units. Or two boxes to play a unit of three and a unit of one.

A good description of Slaves to Darkness is the army is a boat to bring the heroes to battle.

I’m just getting into AoS, and trying to settle on my first army - so this video has been invaluable!
All the factions look so much fun I’m really struggling to settle on one.
I think I’ve narrowed it down to Fyreslayers or Ogre Mawtribes. I played Dwarfs (badly) in Warhammer Fantasy a very long time ago, and love dwarfs in fantasy literature, so the Fyreslayers really call to me. But the Orgres seem really cool and something different! They also seem to be reasonable newbie-friendly!
Any advice on helping me choose would be amazing!

You've probably already decided by now but ogres would be my pick just from a hobby perspective. Fyreslayers would kill my motivation because their models are all so similar while the ogres have some good variety
Just got into painting some Cruel boys late last year. I was painting WW2 planes for my Nephew, and decided to paint an Orc. Wanted to spend a tenner....... !!! hilarious..
Im now close to £700 spent on boxes and boxes. 23 boxes at the mo, over two thirds left to paint.

So many cool models, don't know when I'll ever get into the game since I'm still kinda new but also heavily invested into 40k. I like Stormcast Eternals although they're basically Space Marines, and I already own Ultramarines and Black Templars for 40k so probably wouldn't choose them despite the opportunity for kitbashing between the two, Maggotkin of Nurgle I technically already have a start on since I already have a Great Unclean One as a painting project, also really like the Bone Reapers, Sylvaneth (mainly the giant tree units, reminds me of the Ents from LotR), and the Orruks.
Great rundown of all the factions! Hopefully the spooky ghost boys will get some updates soon.

No legion of chaos ascendant? I know it doesn't have a book but id consider it an army. Unique playstyle kinda like big waaagh but mashing synergies and summons.

Thats a tough one, I'd scan FB for any local groups. Or pop into stores and ask around!
Cities of Sigmar and these represent .... A lack of support for old fantasy armies in AOS. By the way, Dough, love the video, but all your videos are special really.

Played high elves and chaos dwarves when o was younger so I got lumineth box on release, only to hate building them and also not liking where they went after with the other designs.
Still want to get back in but at this point im unsure which faction and dont wanna stuff it up again

oooo interesting question. It's not that they do anything to directly weaken one another, but typically folks stick to spiders OR squigs because you want heroes for both to make some cool synergies. So you can certainly do both, but you may struggle to get the most out of either

A “dearth” means scarcity or a lack of supply. You used it as if it means abundance. It does not. Nurgle has an abundance of models, not a dearth. 36:25 and 37:09

Absolutely yes. I play both and AoS has two main things going for it. First, the rules are a lot simpler. No strategems, simplified wargear, fewer books that you need to play, etc... The second is the community. AoS is a silly game with a community that embraces that silliness while 40k is a silly game with a community that is rabidly serious about it. That's not necessarily a problem but it tends to result in a community that is much more excited about teaching new players in AoS

Yes to the giants and knights! Ogres may be the closest to custodes buts still not nearly as elite as them.

what army has the most elite stuff on 32mm bases?
Fyreslayers are somewhat elite, as are Slaves to darkness but it's really only the warriors that are 33. I'm making kruleboyz atm, they are 32:s mostly, surprisingly elite and cheap with the dominion boys floating around, especially if you go shooting heavy
