    Another great video. I never get tired of watching you at work, mainly because you demonstrate how easy some of the jobs we might shy away from can be done. Thanks again.

    Hi Steve,
    A nice how to and filmed as clear as I have seen so well done I do not have any Hunt couplings as I do get on well with all the other types available and most but not all allow you to auto uncouple if you want and that by there very nature the Hunt ones cannot do but if you want to run a rake of carriages/ wagons at 60 mph backwards there are none better and I concede that for reliability they have no equal so for you it was a worthwhile thing to do and I am sure you will have happy trouble free running that is until the railway gremlins find another way to annoy!!!!!. As all ways please keep safe and well.
    Cheers Robert.

      Hi Robert. Thanks for you nice comment.
      I have found that upgrading my older rakes of coaches that are still in very good condition, but have a variety of older coupling types and wheels, gives them a new lease of life.
      Re wheeling and the magnetic couplings are cheaper for me than buying new stock.
      Lol But I only end up spending the money on other stuff 🤣👍

    Great mod Steve. Ive got this job to do at some point.

    • @route7railway567
      @route7railway567  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John...... Thanks for watching. This particular mod was relatively easy. I’ve also modified some air fix coaches where the bogey and ‘D’ coupling are all one piece of moulded plastic. A bit more cutting and gluing but turned out very well. I might do a very short update or two showing the different bogey versions and mods. What do you think.... has it all been done to death already 🤔

    Hi Steve I have literally just finished watching this I have 2 Hornby Class 101 dmus and want to replace the couplings could you tell me which Hunt coupling you used as I think it will work on my stock Thanks Neil Mackintosh

      Hi Neil. Sorry I haven’t replied sooner. I’m on a motorcycle road trip around the Scottish Western isles.
      Thanks for watching. I used medium length elite couplings. But I now keep a variety of types, lengths and manufacturers magnetic couplings. It’s worth trying different ones to see how then run on your track set up and various curves.
      Regards… Steve 👍

    I think is better if you put screw couplings on spring loaded buffers looks more realistic Bill

    I'm interested in doing this to rid my lot of tension locks all round. On my very early Triang DMU I am in the process of fitting short Kadee's and have acquired a nice set of X'd corridor inserts and hoping the attachment to the bogies won't pull the thing off the track. I am waiting too for some three link chain couplers/hooks to see how they fare as I tend to build rakes and consists up in a semi permanent manner so uncoupling except at engine end isn't a priority. I hope to test the three linkers out on my Blue Pullman which I am reglazing at mo and I might put Kadee's on loco's and consist/rake end vehicles, its just I cannot stand the gaps on coaches lol

      Hi. I’m sorry I haven’t replied to your message. A lot of my messages arrived without notifications to me. It has happened to quite a few others besides yourself. Lots of people must think I’m ignoring them.
      It sounds like you are upgrading the couplings on a lot of your kit.
      Up to now my upgrades are working really well. It’s very satisfying when we do a modification and it works.
      I am enjoying upgrading older coaches and wagons that are still in very good condition, and giving them a new lease of life and making them fun to use again.
      Regards…..Steve 👍

    Great tutorial. Where did you find the replacement NEM pockets? I have some commemorative show wagons which I need to change over. I have moved over to the elite versions and would highly recommend them.

      Hi. Thanks for looking in on my channel.
      I found the NEM conversion Pockets on eBay.
      They are labelled as for Lima kit. But they can fit all sorts. I paid around £6 for 18 of them.

    Great video. I’m new to model railways. Do you know if old Horny MK2 coaches can be converted in the same way?

    • @route7railway567
      @route7railway567  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott. Thanks for watching and your comments. Hunt couplings come in a variety of different fittings and GLR do a couple of variants. With a bit of patience measuring and thought old mk2’s can be adapted to take magnetic couplings directly. If it’s Nem sockets you want then it’s just more of the above.
      It’s fun to experiment on some tatty coaches first to get your head rounds things and then apply your mods to the better coaches.
      Getting the right height of the couplings and distance you need between coaches is essential. I’m thinking of maybe doing some follow up videos showing similar mods to different stock. 👍👍👍

    Can you get those magnetic couplers in shorter lengths to hold the rolling stock a little closer together?

      Hi Brendan. I’m sorry I haven’t replied to your message. For some reason it never came up to the top of my recent replies list.
      Bit late with this info but just in case you still need it, here it is.
      The place to get Hunt Couplings is a West Hill Wagon Works. Check their website for all the sizes and variants.
      Another magnetic coupling I use is from,
      GLR Bespoke Services. They are also very good and supply variants. Hope this helps.
      Regards….. Steve 👍

    Mmm they 3d printed, slip out of of the nem socket easily and are very brittle, I think anyone saying any different are being paid to do so.

    • @route7railway567
      @route7railway567  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peter thanks for watching. I have fitted quite a few of these now and Luckily I haven’t had that problem at all. I’ve actually had to gently sand one or two to make them fit, because they were too tight a fit.
      Regards 👍

      Thanks for watching…… Agreed….I did mention in the video that the couplings were too long and that I would be swapping them out for the close coupling version when they arrive. The fitting of the Nem pockets makes that a very simple swap. I think It was later in the video, I’m guessing you missed that bit. 👍👍👍
      Regards…. Steve
