For your step counter, if you want only one lamp being lit at a time, you need a shorter pulse, one possibility to achieve a shorter pulse is a monostable circuit. The most basic I can think of, is having a line of redstone, put a sticky piston facing up under the redstone, put a normal block on it and place a repeater in front of the block facing into the block. Hopefully this is understandable 😅
To make shorter pulses look up "t-flipflop" its something that makes a button work like a lever, but it has shortening mechanics. Alternetivly use observers. You can also change the mode to peaceful in the ESC menu when going to options or typing /gamerule domobspawning false.

Example: /kill @e[type=Zombie] As for cloning, it's a little confusing... For the first two sets up coordinates you enter those are pretty straightforward. That defines the area you want to clone. The third set of cloning is where you want to clone it. Now it clones it relative to the most negative x y and z coordinate. That is why it is cloning in the wrong place.
To send redstone signal downwards you can use a sticky piston and slime blocks (as they stick to each other) and a redstone block at the end as a power sourse
For that sand problem you had last time put a grass block two blocks below from where you wanna put the sand, put a two block high grass, peony, rose bush, fern, etc. Destroy the flower and hopefully it will float. Just a tip, and I liked the beat for the second episode a lot. Hope you find this suggestion useful to your cause. EDIT: I just realized you have to put the note block down first because if you place it when the sand is already floating it will update the sand and will toggle it’s gravity, making it fall. I actually don’t know if this will work in Java, I know it does in bedrock but it’s worth a try.
If you hold ctrl when you middle click a note block, it will save the note, so when you place it down again it will have the same note as the one you copied... you can even rename the blocks with an anvil so you don’t get confused Like so levi will see :)

Cloning works like that:
You take the two corner coordinates and a third.
This third is the lowest xyz of the model.
For example, a 5x5 cube from 20 0 20 to 25 5 25.
If you clone it to 45 0 45 with
/clone 20 0 20 25 0 25 45 0 45
It creates a cube from 45 0 45 to 50 5 50
