Yaaaas! I didn't feel comfortable coming out until last year because I first had to find an accepting community, so it brings me all of the joy that Malinda had zero hesitation in coming out once she realized her orientation.
oh my gods, malinda this gave me so much hope. i didn’t know generalized anxiety disorder could go away. i didn’t realize one could have a life after an eating disorder. i didn’t realize an introvert could find community and be an ambivert. i didn’t know that there were accessible traditional irish music groups in the us. i thought my life was over, im barely 15 and i thought that this was all there was and that it never would get any better. the fact the at you have a life and you thrive is so fucking powerful. thank you for sharing this. i have so so much hope now thanks to you.

I hope you will continue to find hope! I really relate to what you're writing, when I was 15 I was in some of my darkest times with eating disorder, emotional dysregulation and anxiety. I thought it would never get better and I would never have a life and never be happy. I'm now 22, I no longer have an eating disorder, I had a lot of therapy, I'm studying, I'm engaged, and I feel more confident than ever! I feel like I still have a way to go, there's still hard times and times I don't know if I'm going to make it. But when I look at how far I've come in the past years I know that by the time I am 28 I will feel way different again too! Hold on, it does get better!

Generalized Anxiety Disorder doesn't go away for everyone. If I'm not mistaken, that's the case for most ppl. BUT it can become manageable. I should know. I have it, and yet im still living my life and am even studying to apply to law school. As you get older, and learn how to communicate your feelings better, and surround yourself with a support system, it'll get easier.
Life is NEVER over. And certainly not at 15
I wish I could offer more than good vibes and good hopes, but let me tell you: I have had so many situations where someone asks me something like "what's your birthday?" or "how old are you?" or "what's your address?" or something, and I stutter through it like I'm the absolute worst undercover spy in the world. If they're a friend, just do a "you caught me in an oopsies" shrug, and if they're not, then you shouldn't really care about what they think, you'll never see them again.
I'd be lying if I didn't have mixed emotions. It was the comedy channel that first brought me here, and I've loved every second of them. From the sublime to the ridiculous, translator fails of Google translates was an amazing stroke of genius, and by the sounds of it, you're too busy to do more of it. That makes me sad.
On the other hand, holy hell, I'm absolutely thrilled to hear you're feeling better both physically and mentally, that you've had a chance to explore Irish music and that you're making an album.
That's mind-blowing and it's amazing that you made this happen. You're an honest to betsy inspiration and if original work and Irish songs are where you're going, I'll certainly go there alongside you

She started her career when she was 19, she has a connection to Ireland, and she's bisexual, all things I have in common with her. Those aren't necessarily reasons she's an inspiration, but it's cool to have stuff like that in common with a role model

Your description of being a "quiet queer" hits hard. I'm also in a community that would almost certainly be accepting, but I keep my sexuality very private in everyday life. In online spaces, I'm much more comfortable saying I'm pan because of the illusion of anonymity that comes with being behind a screen. The past year or two I've felt more of a pull to intersect those two worlds. Your journey is inspiring and the pure happiness you radiate is totally infectious.

@@thomassampson6835 Hi there! Pan (or Pansexual) basically means you don't really care what someone's gender is. You can be attracted to men, women, nonbinary people, or a gender you don't even know about yet! It basically doesn't matter to you. This is pretty similar to Bisexuals (who are attracted to their own gender and 1 or more others) but it's an even wider net.

As a bi woman and as a person of Irish heritage (but Australian), WOW did I relate to what you said. I got so many chills. But also the first half your personal update. Over these last couple of years I have made leaps and bounds in terms of my social and general anxiety, so I have finally felt "brave" enough to explore the world and myself. I've made real, genuine connections with people for the first time (not just abiding by the teen urge to befriend the coolest people), finally admitted to myself I am bi, came out and tackled some physical and mental issues I was putting off to "just survive through life". Also, how to, as you said, "be a human"! Though this *has* come at the expense of other areas of my life, I honestly wouldn't have it any other way. I have failed so many times on a path to "be human" and no doubt I still will. But I am finally ready to confront it, all of it - and that's an amazing feeling to have. I hope to one day feel as on top of the world as you seem to - and I think I might soon. Thanks for all you do, Malinda. And from a person who has watched your stuff for six years, thank you for being you.

This summer I finally recognized that I am not entirely straight, and have been slowly coming out as bisexual. When you said you identify with "the B part" of the LGBTQ+ community, I gasped and wanted to cry happiness tears. I've loved the Twisted Translations channel since middle school (currently a sophomore in college lol) and have more recently been exploring your original music. To feel a personal connection to you is kind of a dream come true :) All the support from your TH-cam community!

My grandma was from Ireland but everyone who hears Irish music can connect to it because from a certain point of view we are all oppressed.
When I hear Irish music, I get a homesickness kind of feeling, also a sadness for something I've forgotten long ago. When your album is out, I'll buy it because your music and your voice is so sweet. 🌈 💚🌙

@@patricialyons491 if I may, I'd try to explain how it feels for us here in the good ole' Mother Russia the Empire of Evil. It's like you are a kid and you have a horrible abusive parent. You didn't choose them, you are powerless, surrounded, outnumbered and very much in danger, even when you just try to live your life, no rebellion meant. Then the parent goes really gaga and starts breaking the law and, say, attacking random people with a knife, and what do neighbours do? They start punishing you. The take away your toys, they forbid you to leave your house, and tell you that they do it to help you deal with your monster of a parent. And no one really cares. And each time this parent of yours tells you that you are surrounded by enemies, it gradually starts to feel like at least partial truth? Cause friends sure don't treat friends this way. And this is just the top layer, disregarding the complex shit that goes on within the society.
Sorry for this rant, it's just... well. It's very frustrating, to put it mildly.
That being said, artists like Malinda help us to stay afloat mentally. God bless her and all the creative community.

If they are in fact queer, then they're closeted for a reason, and it can be really scary and possibly unsafe to be pushed out of that earlier than they intended to. I am part of the alphabet gang, namely the A part, and I too grow up feeling that coming out is not necessary, less because my community is accepting but more because they don't know about asexuality and frankly, it makes no physical difference to my life -- well, or maybe I am just not ready yet! As a heterosexual, middle aged white male, all I can say about the news that you are bi is - so what? It makes no difference to me. I just enjoy you for your singing.
On the other hand, as someone going through a middle aged slump and middle-age spread, thank you so much for the comments about just working out because you want to. That's exactly the sort of attitude I need to cultivate, and having people so enthusiastically talking about it encourages me to get out there and do something about it.

Did you say “The Alphabet Mafia”? Love it. My own response, whenever someone told me they’re gay, has always been “That’s great. I’m left handed.” Not to minimize it, but only to say it doesn’t really matter. My son never had to come out, because he never had to hide it, never had to fear he would be rejected by me. People’s sexuality is just a non issue for me. You just love who you love.

having lived in Ireland for a few years (third generation myself) I can definitely say that the queer culture in Ireland is very open and proud. first country in Europe to legalize gay marriage by popular vote! You are THE most fluidly-verbal person I've ever had the pleasure of watching/listening to! I can't imagine how you keep all that information sorted in your mind, then release it in such a perfectly organized, captivating flow! I could never do that, and I know this because I've tried (though not via TH-cam and definitely not intended for such a massive audience).
In my attempts, I’ve spent days writing and editing (LOTS of editing) what I want to say, speaking the whole thing aloud multiple times to make sure it’s “in my voice,” plonking a copy down within easy sight for reference and then beginning to spin the tale, only to have it dissolve into a puddle of mush, usually within the space of the first two sentences!

As a trans guy, defining my sexuality has been a rough little subject. I struggled with it for a long time, and as I have grown older and started to get into my dream career, I have found it to be a simple answer: queer fits. Learning of my family history and finding Scottish, Irish, and native American roots has become a deep dive into learning their history and finding comfort in the music. The sadness, joy, oppression, and expression of roots in every last word of these songs ring deep within my soul. I love finding someone who fits my favorite interests and you fit all of them. Especially with your lower vocal range being the higher part of mine, I have thoroughly enjoyed learning and listening to your siren-like singing, with the reverb of the music ringing throughout my house. Thank you for sharing your story, as you have shown others that they can be proud of theirs. Never forget: your words can change someone's life in the blink of an eye. And you are changing the world for the better with every last song.
I heard introverts grow in the right company. Not that being introvert would be wrong, just that introverts are very particular (I think is the word) about whom they trust.
I am just happy you have found you can (reasonably) trust so many people as a musician.
You reveal reminds me of a friend of mine that came out as gay back in the 1990s. People just shrugged, a few said "i suspected that", but in the end, he was still the same mad lad he always was. And who he loves is none of my business anyway.

Does this mean the end of Twisted Translations? I completely understand artists move on and move into different chapters in their careers. I just know there are still a lot of people who love that stuff and would be thrilled to get an update. It's been such a long time. Malinda's translate stuff brough me so much joy over the years. Those uploads were high points during tough times in my life. I actually remember my dad asking me why he'd heard me laughing so much one evening because I'd been in a really dark place and nobody had heard me laugh much for a while.That was the night I discovered "Malinda Kathleen Reese" as Twisted Translations was known at the time.
I just discovered Malinda and I love her voice. I've only scratched the surface of everything she does. Would love to have a CD copy of that album when it comes out.
I'm really proud of you. I've been through a lot in the last three years. Everything from a carjacking at gunpoint, to anxiety and depression to a stroke. I've also had a falling out with my entire family because I stood up for myself and told them I wasn't going to tolerate their toxic behavior anymore. It's a lot. A whole lot. I want to get to where you are. I'm trying every day. I'll keep trying because of you.

Pansexual means someone who can be sexually attracted to anyone, regardless of gender. Gender is completely unimportant to a pansexual's attraction

I discovered Malinda through tik tok about a year ago & immediately fell in love with her music. I am someone that had never really been interested in my roots until I saw her videos. Hearing her talk about reconnecting with her roots inspired me to do the same. As someone who is over 25% irish myself I am absorbing as much knowledge as I can about Ireland & its history through books, documentaries & any other information I can get my hands on. All of that learning & knowledge is thanks to Malinda and other artists I've discovered through her music. Malinda I dare say that you have gained a lifetime fan in me. Thank you for being an inspiration, a role model & just overall wonderful, joyful, overwhelmingly positive person/artist & also please know that coming out as bi only makes me prouder to be such a HUGE fan of yours. Your music has been and will always be what I equate to calm, peaceful, God-like music. I’m glad you like who you are! I have mental disorders and need all the peace and God-like feelings I can get.

As an Ace/ Greyro, I am so happy to hear that one of my favorite musical artists is on the alphabet spectrum! I rarely see a musical artist that is queer. So many have told, that they are happy for you about your current life situation. I am so much that, too.. I sat and wanted to give you a happiness hug. I love irish folkmusic , too and am an eager dancer to it, so it cheers me up, that you have found some of the irish music and dancing places in New York and make use of them.------- There are two places for irish jam sessions in Copenhagen and I tend to forget attending them, though I am not all bad at playing on my whistles. I am just happy there is a dancing class close by, that I DO attend.. If it were not night right here now, I would certainly start living and doing some more. There is MUCH to make.

People who are afraid to be themselves and show their feelings for one another in public for fear of beeing attacked as the people in that relationship doesn't comply with the religious bronze age romantic norms a frightening amount of people still adhere to and use as justification for trying to institute state terrorism as well as to justify their own personal acts of domestic terrorism.
