Love Taps, Gokce took me there during my first visit and I quickly fell in love with the area and we try to go back time permitting when in Istanbul. The nachos at Taps are super delicious! Lokma is also a great spot near there as well for breakfast.
I have great respect for you two working your way while traveling the world. It adds creditability to your channel and relationship. Some YT channels feel almost desperate trying to keep their "Views" and "Subs" rising. Clearly your working seperately frees you to stay true to your values in how you create each episode. I love Turkey, visited Istanbul a few months ago but didnt do a walk along the Bosphorus. I will be visiting again in October, hopefully will experience it this time.

Great work guys it’s a dreamy city you can find everything , you’ve to go to the Istanbul islands especially the largest one Buyukada island by ferry it’s lovely place and all houses built by the Victorian architecture style , the Turkish or Ottoman cuisine in general everywhere in Istanbul is amazing , fresh ingredients , tasty and rich have enjoy , keep going guys .

I stayed in the city for a week kn one trip and i used to have sone cats following me around lol all looking for the treats i gave them lol people laughed when i got a paw on the back of the leg and shouted at by the cats lol as a cat lover its great for me to do so . The other is that a prince who saw a snake while he was walking in the garden of the sultan and after that his garden and got scared, was called baby by the sultan so they called it baby garden.
So, after compiling all of the meanings of Bebek listed in the responses, I think I have it; A soldier who had the nickname baby because he was afraid of snakes, was sent to this town where two land masses converged. He enchanted the people there because of his precious looking eyes, so they elected him mayor and named the town after him... Is that right? ;)

About Bebek, the legend has it that women started to called the place ''Bebek'' because of a handsome man who used to live there. But I don't know. Probably has some other, rational reason. Turkish is a weird language, almost any word has soma alternative meaning. The word kurt, translates to Wolf, and a worm at the same time. The reason for this, is that the old Shamanistic belief that speaking the name of something would call it to you in real life. So in order to avoid being attacked by wolfs, they used a name for an insignificant thing, such as worm instead of ''Börü'' the actual word for wolf. It stuck and a lot of things have such meanings. Bebek probably meant something else that I myself don't know, and the name stuck because of that. Istanbul has a neighbourhood Küçükçekmece, which literally translates to ''Little Drawer'', don't think too hard on it. We're like astronomers, not very well on naming things. You'd find the whackiest nicknames in small villages in Anatolia though.
And the castle you saw, is actually a citadel. Built by Mehmed the Conqueror to block or at least restrain the naval activities on the Bosphorus, two years before the Siege of Constantinople, in 1453. There is another citadel, the Anatolian Citadel at the opposite side of the Bosphorus. Built by 4th Ottoman Sultan, who initially launched first real attacks on the city, back when Ottomans were just starting out as conquerors. The name of it is Rumeli Citadel. Rumeli means ''Roman lands''. Turks used to call the entire Anatolia ''Rum Diyarı''(Land of the Romans) then after it, they started to call the region from Bosphorus, including the regions of modern Macedonia, Greece of Mora Peninsula, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and such. So that castle, is the start of true Rome, according to Ottomans.
I am an admirer of your vlog and the philosophy you live your life by. I just have one request though. There is small problem with the way you edit your videos. there is a tendency to race through some parts very quickly, and spend a little too much on the other. it breaks the spell of what i believe you are trying to put us in - vicariously live it through you.
I have no problem with constructive criticism but I this is extremely vague. Could you tell me which parts in particular you are talking about? It might not be a problem with editing but the filming as we don't film long enough in some places and too long in others. I recommend Dolmabahçe Palace. For some reason a lot of tourist miss it but it is realy breathtaking. Also if you want some nature stuff you can visit Atatürk Arboretumu.

please after travelling EU countries, the best idea is to eat at 5 star hotel restaurants instead of local people's eateries. Turkish prices of 5 star hotels are similar to cheap cafes' prices in EU countries. For 20 euros, one can get 200 grams of pure meat meal and rice in the hotels. Those Istanbulites look like arab sects with turbans and veils on all the time near the bosphorus promenade.
I started at the Japanese garden in Baltalimanı then walked along the Boğaz(Bosphorus) European side north taking in the sights of the buildings on the left and water on the right. Museum along the way and coffee and cake on the terrace with magnificent views. My daughter and I walked as far as to see the famous house/manor used in many Turkish serials. At the time they were filming "Fazilet Hanım and her daughters." Took a selfie with one of the older actresses(about my age). Kayseriliyan Yalısı Merkez, Meserburnu Cd. Great video guys! A couple of tips, when you see a "ş" think "sh", so Beşiktaş is Beshiktash. With mantı, you will see the i has no dot on top " ı " . When you see that it's not pronounced "eee" like mantee, but more like the i in "with".
Sorry beautiful lady your wrong. Arnavut doesn't mean Armenian means Albanian. In 1468, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror brought Albanians and installed them in the districts of Istanbul where they founded Arnavutköy, a place named after them meaning Albanian village.

Around 1970 it changed to Bogazici University and Robert College moved up the hill from Arnavutkoy. So we became familiar with both towns. Your video brings back memories !

And the castle you saw, is actually a citadel. Built by Mehmed the Conqueror to block or at least restrain the naval activities on the Bosphorus, two years before the Siege of Constantinople, in 1453. There is another citadel, the Anatolian Citadel at the opposite side of the Bosphorus. Built by 4th Ottoman Sultan, who initially launched first real attacks on the city, back when Ottomans were just starting out as conquerors.
The name of it is Rumeli Citadel. Rumeli means ''Roman lands''. Turks used to call the entire Anatolia ''Rum Diyarı''(Land of the Romans) then after it, they started to call the region from Bosphorus, including the regions of modern Macedonia, Greece of Mora Peninsula, Albania, Bulgaria, Romania and such.
So that castle, is the start of true Rome, according to Ottomans.

I am an admirer of your vlog and the philosophy you live your life by. I just have one request though. There is small problem with the way you edit your videos. there is a tendency to race through some parts very quickly, and spend a little too much on the other. it breaks the spell of what i believe you are trying to put us in - vicariously live it through you.
I have no problem with constructive criticism but I this is extremely vague. Could you tell me which parts in particular you are talking about? It might not be a problem with editing but the filming as we don't film long enough in some places and too long in others. Of course this is all subjective but I am happy to take the comments on board but I can't really do much with this 😊

I recommend Dolmabahçe Palace. For some reason a lot of tourist miss it but it is realy breathtaking. Also if you want some nature stuff you can visit Atatürk Arboretumu.

please after travelling EU countries, the best idea is to eat at 5 star hotel restaurants instead of local people's eateries. Turkish prices of 5 star hotels are similar to cheap cafes' prices in EU countries. For 20 euros, one can get 200 grams of pure meat meal and rice in the hotels. Those Istanbulites look like arab sects with turbans and veils on all the time near the bosphorus promenade.

I started at the Japanese garden in Baltalimanı then walked along the Boğaz(Bosphorus) European side north taking in the sights of the buildings on the left and water on the right. Museum along the way and coffee and cake on the terrace with magnificent views.
My daughter and I walked as far as to see the famous house/manor used in many Turkish serials. At the time they were filming "Fazilet Hanım and her daughters." Took a selfie with one of the older actresses(about my age).

Great video guys! A couple of tips, when you see a "ş" think "sh", so Beşiktaş is Beshiktash. With mantı, you will see the i has no dot on top " ı " . When you see that it's not pronounced "eee" like mantee, but more like the i in "with".

Around 1970 it changed to Bogazici University and Robert College moved up the hill from Arnavutkoy. So we became familiar with both towns. Your video brings back memories !
