    This Istanbul travel vlog we explore Kuzguncuk, an Instagram dream with its colorful houses and streets. Here is home to the best doner kebab I have had in Istanbul, actually the best doner kebab in Turkey so far, a must try Turkish food. We have tried a lot of Turkish street food but I haven't found a doner kebab worth filming until now. Emma also tried kunefe, a Turkish delight. It is a cheese based dessert that like all food in Istanbul, was delicious.

    Hundreds of thousands of cats have roamed the metropolis of Istanbul freely for thousands of years, wandering in and out of people's lives, impacting them in ways only an animal who lives between the worlds of the wild and the tamed can. Cats and their kittens bring joy and purpose to those they choose, giving people an opportunity to reflect on life and their place in it. In Istanbul, cats are the mirrors to ourselves. Oh, Nice moves Al 👌🏻.. Love you Two ❤️

    Hello from Oman! The best Kunefe I ate was in Istanbul only! The beauty of istanbul is bosphorus and Old city. I always stay there when I visit istanbul. , but Kuzguncuk looks more beautiful more historical with those beautiful wooden houses and narrow streets. I love all your videos! .

    I'm an expat living in İstanbul for 15 years now and really enjoying your videos. That is a beautiful part of Istanbul which I always think of as a city of small villages. In our small neighbourhood we know everybody and everyone knows us! As regards cats, we all feed them. I think the root of the practice goes back to Mohammed who liked cats apparently. However it's not just cats we take care of, it's dogs too. There are street kennels everywhere, plus automatic feeders for animals, with recycling units where you throw in a bottle or a can and the machine delivers some food to a container for cats and dogs. You may notice on your travels the stray dogs with microchips on an ear. These are strays that are vaccinated every year by the local council and fed by us. Each Mahalle (neighborhood) has its little tribe of cats and dogs. We know them, they know us!

    • @TravelBeans
      @TravelBeans  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks so much for taking the time to write this!! That's so cool that everyone pitches in to look after them.. kinda feels like they're not really strays, more like part of the neighborhood. Love it!

    I grew up in Istanbul. Cats are a part of the city and have been for hundreds of years. (Recently a statue of a well known street cat was erected as a memorial). People, even municipality of the city take care of them as much as they can. Most people love them, I love them too. They are good company. 🐱

    5:20 , Thats the thing i found missing in many other european countries. Its diverse, its colorful, it old and modern and walking around streets is just fun, then one of the few cities where there is food shop/restaurant around every corner to sit ,relax or eat and then start walking again. Only part i didnt like , its very hilly, you need good legs to go uphill and downhill all the time.

    The cats (and well fed dogs) are part of Ottoman culture. The Ottoman government would leave food out for all sorts animals, even seeds for birds in the winter. This was to ensure that no animal went hungry in their lands. The Turkish people have continued this culture.

    As an İstanbul resident myself, let me answer your question: Because we let cats thrive here.
    And here's a good tip for you: The best döner kebab place in that list is Bayramoğlu Döner at Kavacık, close to the 2nd bosphorus bridge(Fatih Sultan Mehmed Bridge)'s entrance on the Anatolian side. And believe me it really is the best.

    I have certainly never wondered what the "behind the scenes" of a rap video looks like, it is literally how I spend most of our time travelling. It's glamorous being married to a travel rapper. VERY GLAMOROUS! If we ever cross paths, I'm thinking Al needs to be a background dancer, he's truly missed that calling (and all of the $$$ that go with it). Actually the best doners are in Bursa which is 1.30 hour far away from istanbul , and the best kunefe is in Hatay if you want to eat most delicious ones you must eat it in the local areas where they actually belong . Try baklava , katmer , turkish delight, kazandibi, sutlac, kadayif as deserts ... actually there are dozens of deserts that you can try :) you can also try kebab and there are 2 types of kebab mainly, one is adana kebab which is hot and urfa kebab which is not hot .. (there are many variations of kebab) you can also try ‘ ali nazik, kuzu sis ( lamb shish) , iskender , sac tava , buryan kebab, cag kebab, ...
    btw guys you don t need to call doner as ‘doner kebab’ in turkey because doner and kebab are different from each other . you can say just doner , it s the correct one :)

    Not trying to be mean but I say this for the benefit of this channel, Emma is the star of the show. Alex needs to stay behind the camera. Rap "video" was painful. As for the cats. Here is the problem with asking historical data in Turkey. It's nearly impossible to find anything objective in history. Instead we have myths which people seem to be more comfy with. According to a myth, most of those cats descended from the cats of Mecca that the pilgrims brought back with them. In Islamic tradition it's told that the Prophet was fond of cats and there are a number of stories about it. If you ask me the practical reason is, when a city is so congested it has a serious garbage, hence rat and mice problem. Who's gonna come to the rescue? Cats.

    • @TravelBeans
      @TravelBeans  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello, Emma here. I appreciate the information you have taken the time to give about the cats.. as for your opinion on who the star of the show is, I'll have to disagree. And I can't help but think you're missing the point of the rap video segment.. it's meant to be bad! That's what makes it so funny. One of the main reasons I'm with Alex is that he makes me laugh every single day.. no matter how awful I'm feeling, he can always put a smile on my face. The rap video is just one small example of that. I LOVE it. I must have watched it about 10 times already and it cracks me up every time. I'm so lucky to have found someone who doesn't take himself too seriously and makes it his mission to put a smile on my face each day.. even if that means doing a 'painful' rap video on the streets of Istanbul 😂

    Hi, I just discovered your vlog today. I have been to Istanbul a few times and can only recommend exploring this city and enjoying the excellent food there. And of course not to forget that incredibly nice people also live there in turkey:)

      No self respecting rapper (like myself) would be seen signing up for Simon Cowell's label.
