Such a pretty Lyra Sally and I love the length on you 👌💞. Great explanation of the pattern too 👍. Enjoy wearing it and let's hope we keep having more lovely warm weather 🌅🙏💝😘
Thank you so much! Unfortunately the sun seems to have disappeared again already boo hoo! I love this length and want to make all the midi dresses now…. thank you for watching xx
Hi your dress looks really lovely on you . I too have made this dress i used recycled joules duvet covers and it turned out fantastic . Im still not use to receiving compliments but with each dress its getting easier !
Beautiful version of the Lyra and the fabric is gorgeous too. I agree about pockets are sometimes not required for certain fabrics! Great top about the hair elastic for the belt loops...I'll definitely do that for when I need them 😀👍 xx
Beautiful dress on you Sally! The match of fabric to pattern is perfect :) re interfacing....at one time interfacing wasn't glued and often when I'm using a good quality, drapey viscose I'll just use a 100% cotton sheet (thrift shops often have many!) - it washes like a dream especially if it's been washed many times before - and it's soft and pliable but offers a little more stability than not having anything. It avoids glue, worries of shrinkage and it's breathable. Sew-in interfacing is great and although it might at first glance seem like a lot of extra work, it really isn't since you'll be stay stitching most of your garment anyway. While doing your staystitching, you can sew in your interfacing. You mentioned in your video that you are 5'3" and you weren't sure what height Tilly drafts for. I noticed that the waist on your dress seems to sit below YOUR waist? Tilly likely drafts for 5'6" as most pattern companies do. Measuring your lengths against hers - ie the bust point, waist and hip may remove 3 inches in your length before getting to the tiers which will likely have to be shortened a bit too.
Thanks so much! I’m really not a fan of any kind of interfacing to be honest and I’ll always leave it off wherever I can. Obviously not possible with a collar etc. It’s funny you say that about the bodice because when I first finished it I was worried it was too short but perhaps that’s because I’m not used to things that fall at the natural waist. Thank you for pointing that out I’ll definitely have a look at that for next time :) Thanks so much for watching and for your helpful comments xx
Fabulous vlog & Lyra dress. Thank you so much for your ingenious idea about blocking interfacing, game changer for both me & my iron. Already tried it out & can’t believe that I haven’t thought of it before , big thumbs up from me 👍
Thank you so much I’m really pleased you found that tip helpful it is a really simple thing isn’t it but yes a game changer indeed! Thank you for watching xx
So look forward your Sunday morning videos! Your dress is beautiful. I also made a shirtdress recently for the first time with a "proper" collar and was so pleased with it 😀. I was even happy with my button holes 🤣
Thanks so much 😊 it’s so lovely when things turn out well isn’t it especially if it’s your first time doing something I think I’ll try another proper shirt now I did enjoy the process xx
Your Lyra turned out beautifully & well done on your 1st collar & stand, love the tip for using hairbands for the belt carriers 👍 As far as I know Tilly drafts for 5'5", so I was surprised that yours turned out so long to need 10cm cutting off, although technically when I made mine I should have lengthened it but didn't & it hits me on the knees perfectly, so maybe she has changed her fit model 🤔 Anyway I love mine, also used a Dashwood Rayon & agree the instructions are great
Thanks so much! Yes I was surprised about the length especially as I was worried the bodice looked very short before attaching the skirt, maybe something went a bit awry 😂 Popping over to look for photos of yours now xx
I’m the same actually that’s why I didn’t interface my Carolyn PJs I was wondering if I could get away with none but I don’t think I could this time with the stand up collar! X
I love the hair tie tip! I will have to remember that--I have loads at home I could use. Your Lyra looks lovely on you! I am astonished that you did so well with it being your first time on a collar and stand. Great job!
Ah thanks so much I think I was just in the mood that day to take my time and try and get it right. Yes the hair tie tip is great I’m so glad I picked that up xx
It came out wonderful! And I love the material. It would be great if you could do a little demo/tutorial on interfacing onto viscose before cutting and the belt loop hack too :)
Love your version and the material is beautiful. Great tip about the elastic. I’ve been sewing for 2 years and I also decided to challenge myself with this dress. I made a size 6 for the top and cut a size 5 for the skirt pieces. Once complete, I found it far too baggy so I unpicked the waistline and cut the skirt pieces down the middle and took out 8 inches on each piece and then reassembled the dress. Fits much better and the join is not that noticeable because of my material. Unlike you, I found the collar very hard to follow. I even went onto Tilly’s website and that didn’t help either. I ended up watching a Professor Pincushion TH-cam video which was absolutely fantastic. I didn’t bother with a top buttonhole or button because I would never close it up. I also made the long sleeve version but did not bother with the elastic as I did not want it. I turn up the sleeves a few times to get the desired length for me. Overall for my first attempt I’m happy but would like to think that my next attempt will be perfect. Thank you for sharing yours. If you ever decide to do a tutorial for it, I’d love to see how you did the collar with Tilly’s instructions. Xx
Oh I’m sorry you had such trouble with the pattern it’s good that there are so many other helpful tutorials out there on TH-cam isn’t it. Wow that’s a lot of fabric to take out of the dress I’m really pleased you like it now. I never thought of leaving off the top button hole but I may do that next time because it’ll never be buttoned up haha. Thank you for watching xx
Thanks Shirley for your fitting comments. I made it for the first time recently and made a size 4. Bodice is perfect, skirt is way too baggy and I’m struggling to know where I can take it in. I’m making another one so will make a smaller skirt
Your dress looks great 😊 💖 I love that Tilly gets you to finish the full bodice before doing the skirt too. The fabric you used is really pretty and I like that both of our dresses look so different. The buttons you used are really cute. I need to try a tiered skirt soon too xx
Hi Sally, great video and beautiful fabric choice as always 😊 I’m definitely keen to try the Lyra after I’ve done my Melilot shirt class. When are you making your next one?
Beautiful dress 👗 I am tempted now with seeing everyone’s on Instagram xx
Thank you! Yes you should definitely try it it’s a lovely pattern xx

Thank you! Glad to be of help with the belt loops definitely much easier than hand sewing them 😊 Thanks for watching xx

Beautiful make. Love expanding skills 🙌🏻
Thank you it was fun to make xx
Love the idea of using hair elastics for belt loops. Have a bunch I used in mask making leftover. In every color!
You’ll be using them all the while now then, so many different uses 🤣 Thanks for watching xx
It’s beautiful like everything you make.
Thanks so much that’s very kind xxx

Ah I hate interfacing! I only ever use the finest one I can get, no matter the fabric I’m working with.
Beautiful dress, Sally!

Your Lyra is so beautiful - love that fabric in the midi length. It's tempting me to buy the pattern for sure! ❤
Thank you!! I’m glad to have inspired you I can’t wait to make another version I like this fabric way more than I thought I would now it’s sewn up xx
It came out wonderful! And I love the material.

Thank you I really pleased with it! Ooh yes I’ll have a think about how I can film that and add it to my list x

I love the dress- looks great. Inspires me to have a go ! Also like the fact there are so many different ways to use the pattern. 😊🧵🪡
Thank you I’m glad to have inspired you a little. Yes lots of different options to try I’d like to make the shorter version at some point xx
