Carpenter Ants Are Eating Our House - Life In The Cabin Vlog

Hello Friends!
So.....
We now have ants. Not just any ants but ants that are eating the logs of our log cabin that we are living in, here in Nova Scotia. We have been working on finding someone to take on the job of replacing an entire wall due to log rot. One guy that we have had come to the house has been mulling over how to do it and when he would be able to but wont commit to the project. Now that we have found these house eating ants we are freaking out! A neighbour of ours suggested someone that he knows, so Matt has put in a call to him and he will be coming to check it out. Our fingers and toes are crossed that someone will commit to helping us!!! This is NOT a home improvement project that we can tackle on our own!
Matt and I keep learning everyday ...... you don't know what you don't know. We just have a lot to learn!!! The cost of living in Nova Scotia coupled with the maintenance and repair work that t=our property is much higher then we thought before moving from Ontario! Once again we are just trying to take everything one step at a time.

Feel your ant pain. We had a terrible time with carpenter ants coming into our house from one of the maple trees on our boulevard. We sprayed the tree 3-4 times a summer with Ant be gone. You can get it at Canadian Tire. A couple of years ago the tree came down in a wind storm. It was so rotted on the one side couldn’t believe it. As soon as the hot weather started they were out in full force. You have to stay on top of it. You will figure it out.

Hire you a someone to spray for ants ,and anything little pet. Ant them what you need to do .

Hello first you need to look for rotten wood thats what they eat rotten wood.. if you can get a medical stethoscope if you use it on the walls you will hear them. in the walls. It will be okay you guys are doing great one project at a time lol okay maybe three projects lol. They can be in the window frames, hope that helps

Once we get that one wall of logs replaced that should help. Honestly who knows what else could be rotting!!!

i read that carpenter ants dont eat the wood they just borow tunnels thats what the dust is

Either way they still destroy the logs..... I think???? And I just don't like them!
