Honestly, while it doesn't fit the DC universe, I thought they had a good potential setup here with Black Adam clearly needing a family to give him a reason to live, and the Shazam kids needing a father who can actually kick their asses if they try to use their powers to get away with shtuf. Of course, they would have to fight for half a movie before BA finds out they're kids, and tries to lecture them on how to fight, throw a punch, etc. and becomes the straight man of the team.
Yeah so stupid that Black Adam even got a solo film to begin with… he’s a Shazam villian! That’s like if Red Skull got his own movie during phase 1 but Captain America had nothing to do with him! Shazam and his family against Black Adam would’ve made for a GREAT second movie! The Justice Society could make an appearance still, since they wouldn’t have to nerf Black Adam at all, so it would make sense for several Shazam’s & Dr. fate to have to team up to beat him!

Eh, it doesn't matter. Hespera and her sisters in this movie were only loose interpretations of some of the Hesperides themselves. And there was no specific "Hespera" in Greek mythology. But there was the grandfather Hesperus and mother Hesperis.
Atlas would be the same generation or one younger than Hades depending on what parent you use. He was a Titan, but was not of the original group born of Gaia and Uranus. He was the son of Iapetus and one of the daughters of Oceanus. Both of whom were original Titans. Meanwhile her mother would also be more generations removed from Cronus, but there are lots of options. So while technically "cousin" would be correct. But, given that Haspera is at least one generation younger than Hades, it wouldn't be unreasonable to use "uncle".

I strongly believe the major problem with this movie bombing is the villains. Mark Strong, among others, strongly carried the first. Besides the actors that play the villains, the characters themselves were lacking. The villains were boring, uniteresting. No personal connection to Billy at all.
Dr. Sivana didn't really have a personal connection to Billy either though? He was just after his power, like the villains in this movie were more or less. He had no connection with him at all outside of that.
I don't necessarily think that the villains needed a personal connection to Billy to work; they could have been good villains in other ways. That's not to say they were terrible or anything, just not very interesting.

I’m actually really sad how this movie did with critics and the box office. The first film was genuinely a fun time. To see it fail so much in the sequel is actually heartbreaking
This movie really felt like a first draft. I really loved the first one, especially the 7sins scene at Dr. Sirvana's father's office. I was expecting a similar gripping scene in the sequel but, it was just disappointing

Apparently, the biggest problem was The Rock's ego leading to a massive underuse of Black Adam. I didn't watch this movie, so I don't really know. I just find that common complaint hilarious 😂 especially when Dwayne was so confident with the "change in the hierarchy" at DC.
And now he's going on to spearhead the Moana Live-Action take and coming back to Fast along with getting another spinoff centered around him to try and forget that it's not gonna happen now and trying to remind himself he is still hot shit.

The My Buddy doll was the most terrifying in history… I threw that thing down the basement stairs so many times when I was 4-6… kept freaking me out when I’d find it back in my room and was too young and scared to consider my mother was the reason.

Favorite bit of this film was the post credits scene taking a piss about the very nature of what these things are for: hoping that you will still remained hyped for whats to come, no matter how long it takes and how many re-writes on those ideas could come in time.
I loved the first Shazam and I found the sequel pretty charming! (Could be because I watched it right after Quantumania which made me feel absolutely nothing.) Most of the sins you point out are 100% right but don’t bother me anyway. If anything I was disappointed by the villains, I love love love Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu but they didn’t seem to have much to work with in this one.
I totally agree with this. It's better than Quantammania because that felt soulless and I was just bored... Which is a shame, I at least chuckled at Shazam 2 and there was some cool lore building in the movie.

Two things I'm surprised you didn't sin: The main goal of Liu and Mirren's characters was to get the apple (or was it the staff? that would make it worse if it was the staff) to restore their world. That's why they said they came to our world, so it made NO sense that Liu's character would rather waste the apple having 'revenge' destroying our world when the *second* they got the apple they could have fucked off back home to make it the paradise it once was. The dragons back horns that Liu's character was holding onto when riding the dragon; stuuuuupid placement unless you *want* to get impaled by the two backwards facing horns, right at chest level. So many times in the movie where (from the movement of the dragon) Liu's character would have been smashed against them!
So if they buried Billy in the other realm, how did Wonder Woman get there? The Wizard doesn’t indicate that he teleported her, so on top of being able to bring people back to life, I guess that Realm-Teleportation is another random power she now has, like how she gained the abilities to fly and make things invisible in Wonder Woman 1984. In Wonder Woman 3, she’s going to find out she has telepathy and can shapeshift…

Mark Waid and Alex Ross did a great miniseries called Kingdom Come in the 90's. The adult Billy turns into a Captain Marvel who looks the same as when a younger Billy would transform into him. Not gonna lie, I would love to see a version of Captain Marvel with a young Billy turning into an adult Captain Marvel (like the movies), but have Captain Marvel Jr. be an adult in his secret identity. Probably an adult who uses a crutch, maybe a veteran with lots of field experience who gets treated as "the sidekick" by the general public due to his heroic form looking so young (which would give some great comedy with a young, goofy Billy as Captain Marvel and an irritated, salty Captain Marvel Jr.).
In one of the variation it’s explain that Captain marvel’s appearance is based on Billy’s vague memory of his deceased father. So likely, their forms are based on their idealized self at physical peak. After all a boys first hero normally is his father. This also explains Mary Marvel’s appearance being essentially just her being older, and Captain Marvel Jr. looking like a younger version of Captain Marvel more or less. (Freddy, idolized his buddy.)
This is why the why cinema sins mantra or the book don’t matter is so dumb because teh answer to your question and half the sins in this video is in the comics

Hell, once in Berlin's famed Spy museum, some girl was lying *on the floor* right outside the infrared camera room, *a completely dark room.* The only reason I didn't step and break her ribs, is because I have anxiety so I was compulsively checking everywhere I'll put my foot on.
I don't know if it's a sin, but it really bugged me that the first action scene involving the Puberty Squad involved a bridge somehow spontaneously falling apart, something that modern bridges rarely do. Some kind of first cause for the destruction would have been nice.

7:32 This happened to me too! I completely forgot the first movie so I was hella confused in the beginning like "wait, who the fuck is the main Shazam?" Shows how different his personality is and doesn't fit.
I still enjoyed the movie but if they are somehow lucky enough to get a 3rd one they do need to bring the Billy and Shazam characters to a middle ground on their attitude, at least get rid of the "being dumb for a laugh" gags. Also, was really supposed that more of the family didn't have a bigger reaction to Billy's death, even if it was temporary. Definitely should have sinned the multiple times Kalypso just glared at Shazam during their fight instead of attacking.
I agree that if they are somehow lucky enough to ever get a 3rd Shazam movie, they really need to do something about bringing Billy and Shazam on a middle ground on their attitude and to get rid of the ''being dumb for a laugh'' gags. Also, one thing that's always bothered me about Shazam is that he's supposed to have ''the wisdom of Solomon'' as one of his superpowers and yet I've never actually seen him use that wisdom( in ANYTHING, really, in comics, in animation, in the live-action films, anything). And at one point, Eugene even comments on how Billy doesn't seem to really have any wisdom as Shazam and The Wizard himself even says that he doesn't have any wisdom.

A few More sins: 1: The drinks and food were laid out one way before billy looked away laid out differently when he turned around, so they deserve a sin either for that or an extra sin to the one about her teleporting and being sneaky because this would imply she also tried the food and drinks in that time 2: Forget the fact that Shazam’s body is super tough, from the way he catches Mary, at that speed, the deceleration would crush her body, or break her back or neck 3: Billy died in his human form, was buried in his human form…how did he burst through the grave as Shazam without saying the word again? 4: “SHAZAM” uses both the Greek AND Roman names of the gods, Achilles isn’t a god/titan, and neither is “Solomon” , he isn’t even Greek or Roman, which means DC or the council of wizards were really reaching just to use the name “SHAZAM” or this is some Godly level of coincidence

I have no idea why this did as poorly as it did theatrically. The trailers didn't make it look particularly *good,* but they also didn't make it look substantially worse than most other superhero movies as of late.
Just want to add that you can tell from the wide shots of the skyscrapers that they didn't shoot in Philly. Philly skyscrapers are very distinct looking and only found in center city and university city. The house also looks nothing like our architecture

My problem with the movie was that Hellens' character didnt even want Lucy lui's character to touch the staff, so it felt out of character that she suddenly let Lucy lui's character have the staff. Plus it was too obvious that Lucy lui's character was gonna turn against Helen's character.
The beginning of the movie started off with the goddesses initiating a chaos zombie apocalypse, but then it just fizzled out off screen, and no one even brings it up.
the funny part is that the whole superhero team outclasses the 3 sisters in literally every stat besides iq and could've easily ended the movie the moment they faught at the restaurant by just ensuring they are all dead

Two things I'm surprised you didn't sin:
The main goal of Liu and Mirren's characters was to get the apple (or was it the staff? that would make it worse if it was the staff) to restore their world. That's why they said they came to our world, so it made NO sense that Liu's character would rather waste the apple having 'revenge' destroying our world when the *second* they got the apple they could have fucked off back home to make it the paradise it once was.
The dragons back horns that Liu's character was holding onto when riding the dragon; stuuuuupid placement unless you *want* to get impaled by the two backwards facing horns, right at chest level. So many times in the movie where (from the movement of the dragon) Liu's character would have been smashed against them!
So if they buried Billy in the other realm, how did Wonder Woman get there? The Wizard doesn’t indicate that he teleported her, so on top of being able to bring people back to life, I guess that Realm-Teleportation is another random power she now has, like how she gained the abilities to fly and make things invisible in Wonder Woman 1984.
In Wonder Woman 3, she’s going to find out she has telepathy and can shapeshift…
Just kidding, there isn’t going to be a Wonder Woman 3.

There's like at least three distinct times during this video where I thought the movie was over but it wasn't.
The kids turn into adult superheros when they say shazam. Does that mean when the kids are old when they say shazam they will still transform into that now much younger super hero form?
Mark Waid and Alex Ross did a great miniseries called Kingdom Come in the 90's. The adult Billy turns into a Captain Marvel who looks the same as when a younger Billy would transform into him.
Not gonna lie, I would love to see a version of Captain Marvel with a young Billy turning into an adult Captain Marvel (like the movies), but have Captain Marvel Jr. be an adult in his secret identity. Probably an adult who uses a crutch, maybe a veteran with lots of field experience who gets treated as "the sidekick" by the general public due to his heroic form looking so young (which would give some great comedy with a young, goofy Billy as Captain Marvel and an irritated, salty Captain Marvel Jr.).
In one of the variation it’s explain that Captain marvel’s appearance is based on Billy’s vague memory of his deceased father.
So likely, their forms are based on their idealized self at physical peak. After all a boys first hero normally is his father.
This also explains Mary Marvel’s appearance being essentially just her being older, and Captain Marvel Jr. looking like a younger version of Captain Marvel more or less. (Freddy, idolized his buddy.)
This is why the why cinema sins mantra or the book don’t matter is so dumb because teh answer to your question and half the sins in this video is in the comics

I don't know if it's a sin, but it really bugged me that the first action scene involving the Puberty Squad involved a bridge somehow spontaneously falling apart, something that modern bridges rarely do. Some kind of first cause for the destruction would have been nice.
This is a funny comment in hindsight because a bridge on the I95 leading into Philly recently collapsed

I still enjoyed the movie but if they are somehow lucky enough to get a 3rd one they do need to bring the Billy and Shazam characters to a middle ground on their attitude, at least get rid of the "being dumb for a laugh" gags. Also, was really supposed that more of the family didn't have a bigger reaction to Billy's death, even if it was temporary. Definitely should have sinned the multiple times Kalypso just glared at Shazam during their fight instead of attacking.
I agree that if they are somehow lucky enough to ever get a 3rd Shazam movie, they really need to do something about bringing Billy and Shazam on a middle ground on their attitude and to get rid of the ''being dumb for a laugh'' gags. Also, one thing that's always bothered me about Shazam is that he's supposed to have ''the wisdom of Solomon'' as one of his superpowers and yet I've never actually seen him use that wisdom( in ANYTHING, really, in comics, in animation, in the live-action films, anything). And at one point, Eugene even comments on how Billy doesn't seem to really have any wisdom as Shazam and The Wizard himself even says that he doesn't have any wisdom.
Surprised you didn't add a sin for Mary, human/superhero versions being played by same actor with no explanation as to why she is the only one who doesn't turn into an adult version of themselves.

A few More sins:
1: The drinks and food were laid out one way before billy looked away laid out differently when he turned around, so they deserve a sin either for that or an extra sin to the one about her teleporting and being sneaky because this would imply she also tried the food and drinks in that time
2: Forget the fact that Shazam’s body is super tough, from the way he catches Mary, at that speed, the deceleration would crush her body, or break her back or neck
3: Billy died in his human form, was buried in his human form…how did he burst through the grave as Shazam without saying the word again?
4: “SHAZAM” uses both the Greek AND Roman names of the gods, Achilles isn’t a god/titan, and neither is “Solomon” , he isn’t even Greek or Roman, which means DC or the council of wizards were really reaching just to use the name “SHAZAM” or this is some Godly level of coincidence
There were a couple of funny moments:

I have no idea why this did as poorly as it did theatrically. The trailers didn't make it look particularly *good,* but they also didn't make it look substantially worse than most other superhero movies as of late.
Because making it look like that is the worst thing possible at the box office. You must make your film look interesting, not super generic.

My problem with the movie was that Hellens' character didnt even want Lucy lui's character to touch the staff, so it felt out of character that she suddenly let Lucy lui's character have the staff. Plus it was too obvious that Lucy lui's character was gonna turn against Helen's character.
