@@Fictionboy16 This movie can be enjoyed completely seperate to the Shrek movies, or even the first Puss in Boots movie, so even though it's in the shrek-verse it doesn't really feel like it. It's one of those once a year type films, like into the spiderverse, where if you even have some vague idea of who the MC is then that's enough to enjoy it.
And also how they heavily dunk on modern Disney through Horner. I hope this means next Shrek is somewhat better at least. I won't expect it to be as good as this PiB though.
3:54 The wolf actually starts cussing at the end in spanish obout how he was fool for playing with his food/prey. So he acknowledges what he did was dumb.
4:25 actually, this is a camera trick used in real life. By standing really far away and zooming back in, perspectives change. Think of a distant city, now the moon sets over it and the city looks tiny by comparison.
This movie did not deserve to be this good, but it's now considered one of my top 10 favorite animated movies of all time! I had my doubts, but now I love this film!
For much of the movie, I consider it Pixar-quality minus the excessive expletive-bleeping--just don't have the expletives in the first place, but the animation is very unique with the movie's "Head of Look."
It was brilliant, probably in my top 5 animateds ever. I recently watched the super Mario movie and that wasn't a patch on this. My friend said he thought Mario was miles better, I wondered if he actually watched this one because this is a hard 8/10 would definitely watch again movie, and Mario was a very generic run of the mill 5/10 no reason to ever watch it again movie. For me anyway.
It's not only nice but It's also a very intentional decision to create such a villain. Puss in boots TLW uses classic fairy tales to create a universal message. In such world a truly evil villain is perfect because It creates a strong contrast between him and the protagonists. Not to say that Jack Horner can be interpreted as a ctricism for modern sympathetic villains. The message is simple but effective in this case: "Sometimes evil is just evil and we shouldn't find excuses for that but just fight with it until it's too late".
Jack works because Death and the bears are also antagonists. Death drives the story and the bears are on their own sub journey so they could get away with having a comically evil Jack without ruining the movie’s stakes and plot importance
7:08-7:18 well he has an army of goons, most likely runs that entire town with his industrial power, has a possession of magic arsenal, has his own special soldiers and he is basically a rich mafia boss.... So yeah.... Go ahead.... Try to arrest him....
7:54 Also, it’s pretty obvious that Kitty wanted Jack Horner to see that the map was inside the box first, and then make her move after he’s been further convinced that it’s in his possession, and he’s more likely to leave it unattended for longer, buying her some time. (Edit: added time stamp)
yeah I don't know why they sinned that. if she waited until Jack Horner left, she'd be all alone and easily be able to take the map and leave unnoticed. She only had to reveal herself because Puss took the map, ruining her plan
4:02 that's intentional symbolism because the 8 empty cups represent the amount of lives Puss has lot, Puss is drinking his 9th cup meaning that he's currently living on his 9th life.
4:03 Can't believe he didn't realize that those eight empty glasses represent Puss's eight death's. Puss is on his ninth glass of creme as well as his last life!
Death’s whistle still gives me goosebumps even now. That final fight was so good and I hope they will make more puss in boots stuff instead of more shrek stuff
I really like the self contradictory "nuance villain in kid movie" sin joke for both Goldi & Jack, almost a subtle praise to they nail it doing both in one film
That Cold War sin was top-tier. Also, this is one of the best animated movies ever. Be nice to it, damn it! AND HOW DID YOU NOT TAKE SINS OFF FOR DEATH, MAN?!
I’ve always liked the puss in boots spin offs but this was by far my absolute favourite. As an 18 year old, I still enjoyed every single part of this film. It felt honestly very directed to teens more so than kids.
Honestly, the brief moments of "seeing" what you fear IS what I see when panicking, almost like believing the fear is all around you AND the fact a perfect reason to have a guide dog is in that scene. Bravo
the intentions of the map was to help you realize you do not need what you think you need. for Perrito, he had everything he needed. For Puss, He saw his past lives and what a jerk he was. He doesn't need them. For Softpaws, hers was about being alone, how she does not trust anybody, but their path helped her realize she has puss. For goldi, it made her realize that she already has a family she can love, and the bears are already content with what they have. We do not see horners but he doesnt have to learn anything. His is purely selfish and he knows it.
I think the movie does show nuance in its villains but just with different characters. Jack is the irredeemable evil for the sake of evil character, Goldi is the sympathic villain, and death is the evil as a force of nature villain.
Honestly, for what an amazing job they did with this movie, it should've ended up with negative sins. It was a very rare masterpiece, especially when one holds it up against the past few years of movies.
At around the 4:20 mark where it talks about Puss escaping death, wasn't the whole ending of the movie about how Puss did not in fact escape death, he excepted his death and Death decided to wait for Puss last life to end instead of taking it himself
Yes, Death was angry Puss was acting as if he was immortal. Death was teaching him a lesson about humility, but the point of the movie is that Puss learned that lesson so Death didn't need to prove any point. I thought it was really well done, but, Jeremy's got a job to do I guess.
3:54 I disagree with this sin only because he never causes others people’s death just collects them, but Puss pissed him off so much he said fine I’ll do it myself
I just want to mention a random detail I found in Death's last scene. When he walked away, the fire moved in the same direction as him as if it was blown by the wind. When he stopped for a second, it also stopped. Pretty neat.
14:16 alright I’m fine with most of the other sins, but the fact he doesn’t remove a sin off for this , nor for the beautiful scene between perrito and puss in the forest. Hurts
@14:53, actually, i think Death in this movie is a construct (judging by the fact that he appears out of nowhere on multiple occasions), so, as a construct, i posit that he actually does smell fear itself, another construct.
16:57 death leaves because he realizes that puss isn't the careless and irresponsible cat he was going after earlier and that it's going to take more to take him down
honestly, him leaving was a breath of fresh air, instead of getting defeated. we know he's holding back enough to test puss considering he got the chance to kill him multiple times, and he didnt
17:31 they aren't making a wish because they realized that what they wished for was right in front of them the whole time. Goldilocks loves her family more and puss is happy with his 1 life
No, No. any of them could've wished for both themselves and the ones they care about to become immortal or something, thus avoiding death while also majorly helping the ones they care about, there was zero reason to not do this
Goldi is the sympathetic villain, Death is the pure evil villain with a purpose, & Jack is the wonderfully irredeemable villain. How could you not understand that Jeremy?
Because that's redundant nonsense? How tf would a villain that's "pure evil" not be irredeemable as well? Typical cinemasins fan, barely any thoughts used to make comments
16:30 I guess you completely missed the actual message of that scene that we should value our lives more as we just have one and we shouldn't just give it up without a fight.
Yep, completely understand why this guy has 9.17 mill subs. Very good critic does not radiate ignorance, apathy, or a lack of knowledge when attempting to discern thematic elements.
14:56 This sin really bothered me because 1. We already have a irredeemable ruthless villain in this movie 2. Goldilocks and the Three Bears serve as antagonists to Puss, they’re all working toward the same goal but in opposing teams. 3. Just because something is directed at kids doesn’t mean it needs to be overly dumbed down. Children are a lot smarter then society gives them credit for, and it’s a breath of fresh air to have a piece of film intended for younger audiences (ESPECIALLY animation) to not talk down to its viewers. The movie’s themes are about learning to live with the fact that death is ever looming in our lives, and how to cherish every moment. That’s a valuable lesson for EVERY age because no matter what part of your life you’re in it’s important to face your mortality and learn to deal with it. I would like to go on a rant (kinda just did) about this but others have done it better
15:00 that's not what they're doing, they're showing that Goldilocks feels ashamed of her bear family because they are slow sometimes. The whole moral of the movie is that you don't need a wish to be happy, you only have one life ans you're the only one who decides how you want to live it
If half the creativity of this movie was used in the previous Shrek movies, the franchise would be worthy of the memetic obsession it has and Dreamworks would actually be a strong contender for one-upping Disney the way it was spitefully founded on. (No seriously, Dreamworks exists because its founder was kicked out of Disney and wanted to spite them. It's why Shrek is a giant satire of Disney fairy tale movies.)
Also don't they multiply when you cut them? Because it could be a reference to the Hydra, where Hercules' cousin cauterized the wounds so they wouldn't grow back.
Seeing Puss with a beard, I barely recognized him, but when he donned his hat, boots and cape once more, he looked more like the Puss I knew. A fearless hero.
I can't believe that the Death whistle's orchestral version in the final fight wasn't a sin off or even in the video. That had my spine tingling like MAD. One of the most insane animated movie fights EVER. 10/10!
I mean I feel like it was implied that the bears and Goldie bypassed the flowers because they were physically knocked off the path. However it’s also shown Baby is great at tracking by scent so he could have easily found their way to them by tracking Horner’s scent alone
Wizard of Paws” is actually the title of a television show about building animal prosthetics. Yes, I understand. He’s making a joke, but I’d be sad if I don’t take the opportunity to Sin a sin. 8:54.
So this randomly got in my recommendations so I checked it out to see what the sins were. The "sins": 90% aren't even flaws or plotholes but just describing a thing (like a short flashback) that happens. Any kind've stylistic choice that isn't 100% realistic. The reckless actions of a flawed character that is the catalyst for and is examined by the plot Random unnecessary bits that the movie didn't add Having no idea what metaphor is, And bizarre ass contradictions.
10:49 they weren't, the reason they attacked earlier was because of puss and kitty trying to cut them which made them get stuck, and then perrito smelled them and they helped him out. It's like real life, if you're attacked then the logical response is to fight back
10:22 you act as though there's roses leading up to there, which they don't, it's just one section on the path to the wish. If there was a whole field leading to it, it would defeat the purpose of relaxing and just smelling the roses
7:34 its also pretty interesting when you learn that this film actually lost to GDT's pinocchio at the oscars, making this scene pretty ironic, if you ask me
regarding the map changing thing. the point of the map is that it puts the path that would make it hardest for it's current holder to reach the star, but it doesn't have the ability to alter anything about the star itself. this is also why perrito's path seemed so easy. perrito doesn't want a wish to begin with, but even if he did, he would be too busy smelling the roses, relaxing in the river of relaxation, and such to ever actually reach the star
4:15 the issue is that while he DID escape dead it was for an earned reason, I’m aware sins are usually not on things that matter, but if your going to be nit picky at least be accurate.
You can tell he's really nitpicking here, even by Cinemasins standard. I have no idea why this masterpiece of a film doesn't have a CinemaWins video yet
9:47 Actually the map reflects what's in your heart and it doesn't make you less worthy of a wish, it even tried to help Goldie by having her realize she already has a family.
Just makes it harder easier depending on what you plan to use the wish for.
Hence puss n kitty have the hardest paths and most deadly
It was a really neat way of doing that bit. This movie was very very creative.

I was really surprised by the fight scene and felt like the writers only deemed it necessary by the rule of cool.
@@dairoleon2682 exactly. it gives even more credence to the motivation of lobo. which wasnt to kill puss, because he could do that whenever he wanted too, he wanted to kill this arrogant, vanity fueled creature that didnt value life.
@@TheOneMagpie it's Death lol, and the fight scene was to show Death didn't want to actually kill Puss. Death knows death better than anyone, so he knows the value of life more than anyone too probably. He was frustrated with Puss because Puss never took his lives seriously, so he likely just wanted to scare him into doing so. Of all the times Death could have killed Puss, he never did, and he only stopped when Puss realized the value of his life.
Yeah. The scene where he fights puss and at the end says "I came here for an arrogant little legend who thought he was immortal" gives a pretty good indicator of his motivations. He only wanted to make a fearless hero scared.
How did they not take any sins off for the scene where Perrito helps Puss with his panic attack?!? That scene was so heartwarming and sincere, that deserved at least 3 sins off.

@@Sefirofe Yeah, it is. And to strengthen your argument, half of me didn't expect sin removals because they aren't too kind to the Shrek franchise, not even the first Puss in Boots movie. And this sequel is way better than the original anyway, so the video could've gone either way.

@@Turtleman2009 Beat me to it lol
This movie did not deserve to be this good, but it's now considered one of my top 10 favorite animated movies of all time! I had my doubts, but now I love this film!
For much of the movie, I consider it Pixar-quality minus the excessive expletive-bleeping--just don't have the expletives in the first place, but the animation is very unique with the movie's "Head of Look."
@@LukeMaps The explitive bleeping was the punchline to the best joke in the entire movie.
Little Jack Horner was my favorite character in the movie. John Mulaney was hilarious in the role. It's nice to have a villain that's just evil.
Little Jack Horner didn't have any magic. He was a sad, pathetic, buttered, baker's boy. Little Jack's dead! I'm Big Jack Horner!

For Softpaws, hers was about being alone, how she does not trust anybody, but their path helped her realize she has puss.
For goldi, it made her realize that she already has a family she can love, and the bears are already content with what they have.

The thought of Death saying this in the bar fight scene has me rolling. Funny how one word being changed would alter that entire scene.
If he didn't escape death he'd be dead
Yeah, no clue why he sinned on an assumption. Did it again at Perrito's Backstory.
Yes, Death was angry Puss was acting as if he was immortal. Death was teaching him a lesson about humility, but the point of the movie is that Puss learned that lesson so Death didn't need to prove any point. I thought it was really well done, but, Jeremy's got a job to do I guess.
This is probably going to be one of the most watched cinemasins videos of this year. I'm glad I jumped into it early. Kudos

2:52 jermy hasn't heard of the myth that cats have 9 lives. The movie literally explains to you that puss has used up all but 1 life
I just want to mention a random detail I found in Death's last scene. When he walked away, the fire moved in the same direction as him as if it was blown by the wind. When he stopped for a second, it also stopped. Pretty neat.
16:52. He does so to demonstrate to death that he won't be taken down so easily. He won't go down without a fight
14:16 alright I’m fine with most of the other sins, but the fact he doesn’t remove a sin off for this , nor for the beautiful scene between perrito and puss in the forest. Hurts

This sin really bothered me because
1. We already have a irredeemable ruthless villain in this movie
That’s
a valuable lesson for EVERY age because no matter what part of your life you’re in it’s important to face your mortality and learn to deal with it.

The 8 empty glasses are actually a metaphor to Puss's 8 lost lives and he only has one left.
So this randomly got in my recommendations so I checked it out to see what the sins were.
The "sins":
90% aren't even flaws or plotholes but just describing a thing (like a short flashback) that happens.
Any kind've stylistic choice that isn't 100% realistic.
The reckless actions of a flawed character that is the catalyst for and is examined by the plot
Random unnecessary bits that the movie didn't add
Having no idea what metaphor is,
And bizarre ass contradictions.
And then they try to use that played out excuse like "dood it's just jokes ur sensitive"

Never change, Jeremy.
15:13 it's a magical map Jeremy, whenever they let go of it it rolls up on its own
regarding the map changing thing. the point of the map is that it puts the path that would make it hardest for it's current holder to reach the star, but it doesn't have the ability to alter anything about the star itself.
this is also why perrito's path seemed so easy. perrito doesn't want a wish to begin with, but even if he did, he would be too busy smelling the roses, relaxing in the river of relaxation, and such to ever actually reach the star
