I remember being in love with Star Wars (still am, but Anakin is my hero). I became a collector and I hunted this game down on e-Bay, as it wasn't anywhere else in Australia. I got it for my collection, but despite lackluster reviews, I found it quite good. I agree, the camera is a real pain, but I still like it. Love these reviews.

@1:34 The meat locker Jedi training scene was a homage to the original Rocky film, but Lucas cut it at the 11th hour to appeal to the youth demographic. He said the kids nowadays wouldn't get the reference anyway and that it was probably for the best because that way he can flesh out some of the more riveting, kid friendly stuff. Like the tense negotiations over galactic trade embargoes.

My childhood bestfriend used to get dropped off at my house during the summer while his mom worked, and one day my mom took us with her while she went garage saleing. This game was for sale at one of the houses and my friend used money his mom had given him for food to buy the game. We took it home and had a blast... good memories

This game isn’t a *good* game, per se. But, I always appreciated how different the lightsaber combat felt because of the controls, its multiplayer mode, & its special place in coming out during the prequel hype.

I remember enjoying this game. It wasn't hard - but the force powers and the saber fighting made it fun to roam around and be Obi Wan. Seeing it now, its pretty clear LucasArts focused most of their money/effort towards SW:Battlefront I & II.

Bought this as my first Xbox classic purchase of the year, and honestly... It's surprisingly good. Episode I: The Phantom Menace is easily the most overhated and underrated Star Wars movie by a landslide, so the concept of depicting its events from the lens of the Trade Federation's meddling going beyond the film to Coruscant gangs and a warrior race on a swamp planet is a sound idea for a game adaptation. The concept of using the right analog stick or similar for your sword/lightsaber was done before with Die By The Sword on PC, but Obi-Wan does it really well with great feedback, and the level design is mostly designed around it so people alienated by it can catch on quick. Plus, the game utterly nails the style of the Jedi action sequences from the film with flips and force jumps coming in quite useful.
It is flawed, however: I feel that although the right stick feels solid, the movement sensitivity is really overbearing and a pain. The "toggle" aiming option is unreliable, and the performance and graphics are wack. To be honest, I actually want to see Night Dive target THIS game after Dark Forces, because unlike that game which has a good source port rendering the concept of a remaster redundant, Obi-Wan could actually do with the further polish. It was LucasArts' big Xbox launch debut, and it mostly provides a solid experience. And hey! At least it's better than the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show...

Hi there, I think Star Wars Obi-Wan on the Xbox was a great game. I wish it would’ve been backward compatible with Xbox 360 Xbox one and Xbox series X.

I think one thing worth mentioning more of is the level design. It is a thing of extremes. Theed is very impressive, the best recreation of it we've seen in a video game, however it is massive and quite confusing to navigate, with a lot of downtime distracting the player from the main focus of the game, the combat. But even worse is the level in the Trade Federation ship. It is gigantic, and 90% of it consists of the same type of corridor, with many branching paths and dead ends, along with several necessary loopbacks to hit buttons and progress the mission. Because everything looks the same, there are no reference points or landmarks to help you navigate. It is a complete mess, and screw the masochist who built that particular level.

One of my favorite Star Wars games to this day, but I understand it's not perfect. It's a crime that it's not backwards compatible-- if only for the insane battle royale mode.

I recall people hating this back in the day too, and never got around to playing until earlier THIS YEAR thanks to purchasing a modded Xbox and it being pre-installed. I gotta say... I kinda like it. I *AM* a big fan of Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight and other older (borderline clunky) third person Star Wars games like Shadows of the Empire and Bounty Hunter, and this _feels_ right. This, despite the fact that I recall many outlets pointing out that this _wasn't made_ by Jedi Knight devs. A lot of _them_ left LucasArts to form Infinite Machine and that studio put out fellow Xbox launch title, the *massively disappointing* (imo) New Legends. Between the two of them - Obi Wan being a replication of Jedi Knight, and New Legends being the new thing from the Jedi Knight devs - I absolutely prefer Obi Wan and its intricate levels.
That's a good word to describe it too; a lot of these older games would pack in a lot of pathways and corridors and passageways on top of each other and they can be pretty confusing to return to NOWADAYS, but they are certainly fun to explore if you just have a lot of time on your hands like we did when we were kids. You're totally right in that the voice-acting is terrible though; it's especially weird because they would lock down James Arnold Taylor as (Ewan McGregor) Obi Wan's voice double shortly after this game, and he's SUCH an improvement it's insane (as insane as knowing he's also the voice of Tidus and Ratchet, lol).
Have you played New Legends yet for this channel? I've only recently found it and need to dive into your back catalog more. If you haven't played it, I mean... might as well give it a shot. Just don't get your hopes up; it is not the game it should be on so many levels. So promising an idea and premise and setting - this futuristic silkpunk world where ancient weapons like swords and polearms mix with guns and blasters - and just completely crumbles under not knowing how to accomplish ANY of it. Really baffling title. Might be interesting to _talk_ about though!
