If I remember correctly the DS port followed the tv episode release not necessarily the PS3 campaign's. IE "Ambush" was one of the first episodes of season 1
Holy hell, you’re right! I was so busy comparing it against the console game’s order I completely missed that. Serves me right for not checking the show’s release order (last time I watched The Clone Wars I did them in chronological order instead of release order)! Do you mind if I pin your comment so everyone can see that up top? I’m kicking myself for not having that in the video.
I can’t 100% confirm, but I think the console version was going off canon order? That’s at least what I assumed when I heard that Hidden Enemy was the first Ventress level
also interesting to note is the handheld port actually got the era correct clone wars design for the torsos unlike console releases which used the 2002 design
To try to clean up some confusion from the level order in this version, these levels seem to be given in the same order as the TV show's production order. I don’t know why they left out the final Grievous stage, seeing as that takes place immediately after the Geonosis episodes, but overall that’s would appear to be the justification for why Grievous gets a huge amount of levels early game before widely disappearing.
Starkiller and some other legacy characters from the console version are exclusive to the 3DS version of this game, you can only purchase them via gold coins (you get them by walking with your console).
Handhelds didn't go extinct, the Switch came out and carried the entire thing for a few years. With the Switch there wasn't even real need to "port" games in this weird way anymore.
He’s talking about the middle of 3ds/vita life cycle, when most major publishers weren’t making handheld releases and when consumers weren’t buying handheld consoles.
18:20 So I pulled out my NDS copy of the game to check what the manual had to say on this topic, and all it says about the top face button is "Hold to activate target reticule (Ground Levels)", and in this version, pressing it while playing as a Jedi seems to have no effect. So I'd assume the intention in the 3DS / PSP version is just for it to be some sort of flourish or taunt?
Actually Starkilller and a few others did make it but to the 3ds port as an unlockable character with the 3ds coins (coins you would have gotten if the console was closed and still turned on and move around, think as a bad pedometer)
The only other instance of light-side-exclusive force interactions that I can think of comes from Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The prologue level has you fights Palpatine to simulate the end of Return of the Jedi, and at one point gives you a choice of two mini ships to build, which you can then use the force on as either Luke or Vader to have it attack Palps. The X-Wing option, also shown with a green particle effect rather than standard blue, was light-side only.
While it’s not a perfect game by any stretch (definitely no Isolation lmao), it was actually a very forward-thinking game and was ahead of its time compared to a lot of its contemporaries. When Romulus came out, I did a video briefly talking about four Alien games that I find interesting enough that fans should at least know a little about them. Might be worth a look if you like Alien.
The 3DS Port of Lego Star Wars 3 was my favourite game as a kid, I played it to death, I remember pacing around the house to get enough coins to unlock Savage Oppress Edit: I’d also like to add, watching all these deep dives has made me realise how bad these games looked and in my memory they looked amazing
I just cheated and used the tool that instantly gets you 300 coins on my hacked 3ds. Also the gold coin characters are interestingly enough exclusive to the 3ds version and are the most important minikit characters from the console game.
3:17 some files in the pc version of lsw2 actually confirm the lsw1 content was already planned to be there, long before the complete saga was even thought of (tcs's lsw1 characters and levels are actually from those lsw2 engine porting attempts and have the same errors that they had there, which is why playing the prequel levels on tcs can feel off sometimes) my speculation is that the lsw1 levels and challenge mode were supposed to be on the console version too but they didn't have enough time so they put it aside and reused it for the psp version
I never played this version, as my parents finally decided to let me have a console and play the main version, but I gotta say this looks pretty neat. I especially find the inclusion of the Galactic Marine very interesting, as that is a figure people have been wanting officially for a long time. 19:56 This inconsistency is also present on the box art. The Grievous there is the classic 2005 version, but an updated one had been released and was used in the final game.
It’s honestly a cool one, yeah. Can get a touch chaotic with that many enemies who will potentially shoot at you, but considering the lax consequences for death in these games, it’s hardly that big of an issue.
i love how they had an actual unique kashyyk scout trooper figure in 2005, yet in-game they decided to tint an imperial scout mint green and call it a day
I agree, it's genuinely quite amusing. The 2005 Kashyyyk Scout trooper is one of my favorite "old" Lego Star Wars minifigures, and is currently looking down at me from my minifigure display rack as I type this. I'd wager some overworked developer took one look at the Imperial Scout trooper file already in existence on their computer and decided no one in any position of power would notice before swapping the color.
@BaneShake its even funnier when you consider all the custom designs they made just for this game like the stealth trooper and galactic marine, neither of those guys have appeared in a official lego set yet they made completely unique designs for the game, but cheaped out on the kashyyk scout for seemingly no reason
I always loved the lightsabers animations in this version, on main consoles most characters reused the same set of animations for attacking, especially the dark side characters. In this port however, almost every single lightsaber character has their own unique animations
Also, when it comes to the magnaguards on the DS, I don't think they even have a quick time event. I always had to jedi/sith super slam them to death, otherwise we would clash blades forever.
24:51 Now this is odd, the regular DS version of this commander has him wearing a set of macrobinoculars on his Phase II helmet, whereas this port has him with just a plain Phase II with no attachments.
@BaneShake Yeah, you'd think the only difference would be the visual quality and amount of pixels present, but they for some reason removed an entire detail of one of the port-exclusive characters.
@klipsfilmsmelbourne I know the character image of this commander has a sun visor, I'm just saying that the regular DS version has the commander in-game wearing a set of macrobinoculars on his helmet while the 3DS version has the commander in-game without any helmet attachment at all. I just find it odd that the character model was changed between the DS and the 3DS releases of the same game.
Your content is so good. How is it possible that you have so little subscribers? I found your channel 2 days ago and I watched like 10 videos already. I really think you deserve a lot more recognition.
Thanks! That’s just how TH-cam operates. I’ve seen a lot of support spike up the last couple of years, and I greatly appreciate you guys I do have around!
All I currently have is Big Chap. The Defiance Xeno is so cool, but more expensive than I can currently justify, and no one even in the secondhand market even seems to be selling the Isolation Xeno. I’m hoping NECA rereleases that one with all the renewed public interest in the game (or better yet, remakes it to fix the admittedly minor inaccuracies). I put several others on a Christmas wishlist, but knowing my family’s track record, I’m not holding my breath. Do you have a favorite in your collection?
I had this as a kid for the DS and I loved it, and some months ago I wanted to show some friends of mine this game, got the psp version on retroarch and I was disappointed by the hubworld, so I got the DS version running and fell in love again with the hub there, truly a highlight of the DS port, from what I had seen in your video there are some small changes to the camera angles in some levels but I think that’s it, so playing the DS version for comparison would be a waste of time, but a very fun sidenote, I discovered when I played the console version, that the cutscenes have a slightly different audio for some of the mumbling or the soundeffects, at least the DS port, because I have only really played that But amazing work on the video, it’s really fun to watch and to relive my childhood, also I feel the anxiety, got one myself, but Lego games fun, no anxiety in Lego games, Lego games good :3
Man, what a blast from the past. I only really played the Wii version with my brother- it never saw as much play as Lego Star Wars the complete Saga or Lego Batman (both on wii and DS), but we had fun with it. I also really loved the land battle portions but now- *man* I really don't know if I could go back to this game like I can go back to complete saga (any port for either) nowadays
I actually prefer the DS port over the console. My only gripe about the DS version is that it should've had more levels than just ending it at the Legacy Of Terror. And it should've had a Villain Hunt like with Lego Batman's handheld port and it could unlock characters like Darth Maul or a character that's not in the console like Kyle Katarn or Grand Admiral Thrawn. But I do enjoy the fact that the game doesn't have those battle levels or bad Force controls. It's ironic how getting rid of those features could've fixed Lego Star Wars 3 when those features were supposed to make the game unique.
Played the console version at a friends place. Was amazed. Played the PSP version at home. It was fun. I enjoy both of them for different reasons. The RTS mode is great when youre playing it against a friend.
i genuinely never knew lego star wars 3 had a 3ds port until literally right now i only ever owned the ds one and after seeing the graphical uplift of the 3ds one younger me would be sooo mad
I remember 100%-ing the 3DS port, or at least getting close. The newest system I had around late 2017 was the NN3DSXL, and games were generally cheaper for me since I went to consignment sales frequently with my family. I remember picking it back up maybe a year or so ago just to see if what I played in the years before college and high school was any good. Well, for someone who isn't very much into RTS mechanics, I was fine with those being omitted in the portable version. Despite having the Wii version (yes, we had a lot of the classic Lego games on there, good memories), I always played the 3DS version more due to it being... more simplistic. Also, dealing with the likes of console vehicle levels was always boring with their on-rails (sometimes) but luckily, the portables impressed me with their fully rendered 3D environments and more freedom in a somewhat limited area! I'll finish the console/PC port one day, but for the time, the 3DS scratched that itch.
I played Lego Star Wars III on the Nintendo DS back in the day before I even had an Xbox 360. Then I learned they had it on Xbox and I thought it would be the same as on the DS. It will always be a classic for me. Discovering the arcade cabinets in the hub area was amazing as a kid. Especially astromech volleyball!!
Hell yeah thanks for covering this one! This is the one I actually owned LOL Also, while I do play harry potter games I'm glad to hear someone so casually attacking it's creator XD She is Voldemort in real life! Btw, that weird wiggly thing you mentioned is just a brandishing animation it's not meant to do anything. As for the RPG, it's better to not have it than to make it useless like in Lego Indy hhaha imo Btw, having no land battles was a positive for me! I couldn't stand them tbh, in the console game
Great video! I really love the 3ds so can you make a video on lego city undercover the chase begins for 3ds since you mentioned it in your lego friends video
I remember I managed to get my custom characters out of the pods and used them in the hub world, or somehow get stuck in the stairs that lead to the shop.
Thanks for making this one, i remember playing a lot of the ds port as a kid, and the main console version will always have a special in my heart. Me and my friend played a ton of that game before he moved, we never got 100%. Got to about 60 or 70%
I grew up on the handheld ports. Only got complete saga when I was older. Lego star wars II on gameboy and complete saga/lego star wars III clone wars for ds as well were my childhood
I would love to see you do a video on bionicle heroes, if you haven't played it before i think you'd have a good time with how weird of a game it is compared to every other classic lego game and its often forgotten from the OG era even though it came out in 2006 and isn't even put on TT games release list when it was co developed by them and eidos its so strange. It also has an insanely different DS port which is so weird i can't even comprehend it. the port is a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER LMAO. Which as far as I know is the only one ever released for the lego brand
Personally, nothing will ever beat the Star Wars Complete Saga (specifically the DS version) when it comes to handheld lego games. It was just so well put together. I tried this Clone Wars game on my modded 2DS and it just did not hit the same. This is probably because I went into it thinking it would just be like an updated version of the previously mentioned game with more of a focus on the clone wars tv show and films.
I played the ds version of lego star wars 3 a lot, got it the day it came out if I remember. Am happy to inform you there are minor differences all over the place in that game compared to the psp and 3ds versions (:
@@supeesanz he stated that difference in the video but also said he doesnt want to or care to check for other significant differences throughout the game's story as emulating/recording the DS version would be a hassle as he would have to play through the entire story AGAIN to find out what, probably are, minor differences are scattered throughout. that is why the OC mentioned that there *are* differences throughout the game! no need to mention the hub!
I was a huge fan of the ps2/wii lego games and the clone wars show but I remember heavily disliking the 3ds port back in 2011/2012. It even killed some off a lot of my enthusiasm for the console. Im curious if my 12 year old opinion holds any water
To be honest, I think malding in a comment section about largely forgotten lego handheld games in year 2016+8 is pretty weird in and of itself. Your content is great brudda.
Nah lgw 3 is the best Lego game- there is no bs levels like gunship cavalry in TCG or that god awful hoth speeder level. There is so many cool elements to LGW 3 that makes it peak. And the levels are very polished and refined, definitely a big upgrade from TCS
Great video as always! Just wanted to apologize on behalf of the remaining HP community (that doesn't support Rowling) for the comments you received based on your remarks about the silly worldbuilding... I hope it didn't disgust you from covering LHP in the future!
I’ll still definitely get to it, too! I wouldn’t be adequately showing these games full history if I just ignored the Harry Potter entries. If anything, it just gives me more relevant opportunities to reemphasize support for LGBTQ and progressive voices!
The 3ds version was fun but not worth 100 percenting, i do love that these games didnt use the same faces as the legos themself as that was the era of cursed starwars faces Something of note Im pretty sure savage opress (or as i like to call him darth luigi since hes just maul but less angry) was only unlockable through codes im the original game as to not spoil his yet to appear place in the show, but in the handhelds he was just a normal unlockable character if i remember right
Ohhhhhhh never would have thought of that! Looks like Starkiller may have been one of them too; eight hours since upload and you guys are EDUCATING me!
hell yeah i love this version maybe i even consider better than the console version but idk 👀 feels very nice seeing an in depth video on youtube talking about it
Personally, I prefer the PSP version over the console versions. However, the character customization still blows. Edit: The Star Fox type of space battles kick ass!
I was 8 when lego star wars three came out and I was really into age of empires 3 then, so I was like "broly shit the RTS scenes are epic". Then I played it again in highschool and was like oh yeah this lame.
I suppose the fact that it was successful for a kid was probably the point. I should probably keep that in my perspective making these so I don’t turn into an old man yelling at kids’ games! 👴🏻
As far as ds goes, I'd reccomend desmune for pc and if you own a modded 3ds (20 mins to do) twilight menu is peak, far better than r4 cards Bro has never driven the funny car in rts battles I think the ds could have handled SOMETHING the space battles from the revenge of the sith game went hard and there was a battlefront port (no vehicles tho)
I’ll go further and point out the GBA handled space battles in Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon. Sure, most of the game was kinda garbage, but fighting TIE fighters worked! It’s more that they were willing to go SO above and beyond to make a more complicated system on the weakest hardware you could buy at the time that I think impresses me so much.
Jesus loves you have a great day🫶🏻🫶🏻✝️ John 3:16-17 NASB2020 [16] “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but so that the world might be saved through Him.
@BaneShake great vid btw and absolutely
Actually Ambush is THE First episode of season 1 lol
I can’t 100% confirm, but I think the console version was going off canon order? That’s at least what I assumed when I heard that Hidden Enemy was the first Ventress level
also interesting to note is the handheld port actually got the era correct clone wars design for the torsos unlike console releases which used the 2002 design
Ooh, I hadn’t noticed that!
I find it funny that the psp port has the correct chest texture for the clones at the time unlike the main console version
You’re exactly right! I pinned the first comment who pointed it out so that more people can see it.
Having played this port I can confirm it is, in fact, weird.
The Nintendo Switch isn't a handheld. It's a hybrid between handheld and console.
18:32 there is actually one character who uses a rocked launcher, it's the Clone Gunner
that was the comment i was looking for
18:20 So I pulled out my NDS copy of the game to check what the manual had to say on this topic, and all it says about the top face button is "Hold to activate target reticule (Ground Levels)", and in this version, pressing it while playing as a Jedi seems to have no effect. So I'd assume the intention in the 3DS / PSP version is just for it to be some sort of flourish or taunt?
Bizarre… thanks for checking!
Like a sort of Leia dance from LS2?
LSW2**
Actually Starkilller and a few others did make it but to the 3ds port as an unlockable character with the 3ds coins (coins you would have gotten if the console was closed and still turned on and move around, think as a bad pedometer)
i have distinct memories of shaking my 3DS around trying to get enough coins for Starkiller
Oh the hours I spent playing astromech volleyball as a kid. Thanks for bringing some fond memories back to the surface of my mind!
Always happy to be of service! 🫡
I played that a ton as a kid as well! Loved it!
As a kid i noticed that this game only had one place with purple studs. It's the level with the evil R2 unit.
I was not very big on the isometric LEGO games on 3DS, I think the removal of jumping was a big factor for me, for some reason.
They depend. Some were fun, and some felt horrible. I’ll have to go back to them with a critical mind some time…
“I love the alien franchise”
Proceeds to show the alien resurrection ps1 game…
What did you mean by this
While it’s not a perfect game by any stretch (definitely no Isolation lmao), it was actually a very forward-thinking game and was ahead of its time compared to a lot of its contemporaries. Congrats on being the first person to review this game in-depth
I bought this game on DS, it froze on a saving screen and never worked again.
Oh no! Every version of the game I’ve ever played has crashed or frozen, but never that bad!
I legit remembered playing SW3 on the 3ds and that Binks with a gun brought me back
4:19 this level looks amazing
It’s honestly a cool one, yeah. Can get a touch chaotic with that many enemies who will potentially shoot at you, but considering the lax consequences for death in these games, it’s hardly that big of an issue.

Also, when it comes to the magnaguards on the DS, I don't think they even have a quick time event. I always had to jedi/sith super slam them to death, otherwise we would clash blades forever.
If by any chance I made a fanart of you, how could I get it to you? Just asking
I’ll confess, first time I’ve had someone ask that. I feel like that would make most sense over on my Tumblr, which I have linked in the description.
18:20 I have a DS manual somewhere in my house, I can check when I get off work
24:51 Now this is odd, the regular DS version of this commander has him wearing a set of macrobinoculars on his Phase II helmet, whereas this port has him with just a plain Phase II with no attachments.

@BaneShake Yeah, you'd think the only difference would be the visual quality and amount of pixels present, but they for some reason removed an entire detail of one of the port-exclusive characters.
that profile image has sunvisor I don't think it was brake laws of lego game its somewhat based on custom clone minifigure like CAC old version
@klipsfilmsmelbourne I know the character image of this commander has a sun visor, I'm just saying that the regular DS version has the commander in-game wearing a set of macrobinoculars on his helmet while the 3DS version has the commander in-game without any helmet attachment at all. I have over 20 of the NECA Alien and Predator figures. My collection is upwards of $1000. They're totally worth it. So damn cool.

Tbh, the land battle segments were always my favorite part of Lego Star Wars 3.
Except the Bombad General Level. That was just incredibly annoying

I will never forgive them for making Ahsoka hold her lightsaber weirdly instead of just backwards

Thanks for making this one, i remember playing a lot of the ds port as a kid, and the main console version will always have a special in my heart. Me and my friend played a ton of that game before he moved, we never got 100%. Got to about 60 or 70%
Your Tirade at the Hub Changes got my Subscription, I hope there's more to come from this
19:10 Bruh they did include the bazooka with the clone gunner, it sucked ass! Two hits to kill a B1 and the B2s ATE the rockets!
Love your content love seeing your channel grow
Thanks! Glad to have you along for the journey
I grew up on the handheld ports. Only got complete saga when I was older. Lego star wars II on gameboy and complete saga/lego star wars III clone wars for ds as well were my childhood
This channel is a gem
Glad I can entertain!
Oh, I have plans for ALL versions of Bionicle Heroes…
@@BaneShake hell yeahhh
Personally, nothing will ever beat the Star Wars Complete Saga (specifically the DS version) when it comes to handheld lego games. It was just so well put together. I tried this Clone Wars game on my modded 2DS and it just did not hit the same. This is probably because I went into it thinking it would just be like an updated version of the previously mentioned game with more of a focus on the clone wars tv show and films.
i love the ship levels on this version a lot
I played the ds version of lego star wars 3 a lot, got it the day it came out if I remember. Am happy to inform you there are minor differences all over the place in that game compared to the psp and 3ds versions (:
The whole hub is different to 3ds and Psp
@@supeesanz he stated that difference in the video but also said he doesnt want to or care to check for other significant differences throughout the game's story as emulating/recording the DS version would be a hassle as he would have to play through the entire story AGAIN to find out what, probably are, minor differences are scattered throughout. that is why the OC mentioned that there *are* differences throughout the game! no need to mention the hub!
Most played game in my childhood after star wars complete saga for the wii.
Phenomenal video very happy this popped up on my recommended
Thanks for watching!
I loved playing the ds port as a kid
I was a huge fan of the ps2/wii lego games and the clone wars show but I remember heavily disliking the 3ds port back in 2011/2012.
It even killed some off a lot of my enthusiasm for the console. Im curious if my 12 year old opinion holds any water
4:24 "...Benefits of a presumably increased budget, like-" Perfect time for a Lego Fortnite ad 💀
Deceptively perfect timing
wow the ds version looks way better than i remember
They made it work surprisingly well. Yoda is especially cute in that version.
What about the lego star wars 3 website game that we had back in the day? What about Lego Star Wars Java games? 🤔
All worthwhile topics! Just less relevant for this video.
@BaneShake I am curious about lego star wars comic creator, lego star wars website games like the quest for r2d2, etc in case you need future ideas.
To be honest, I think malding in a comment section about largely forgotten lego handheld games in year 2016+8 is pretty weird in and of itself. Your content is great brudda.
Lmfao true that
Nah lgw 3 is the best Lego game- there is no bs levels like gunship cavalry in TCG or that god awful hoth speeder level. There is so many cool elements to LGW 3 that makes it peak. And the levels are very polished and refined, definitely a big upgrade from TCS
It was super weird
Great video as always! Just wanted to apologize on behalf of the remaining HP community (that doesn't support Rowling) for the comments you received based on your remarks about the silly worldbuilding... I hope it didn't disgust you from covering LHP in the future!
I’ll still definitely get to it, too! I wouldn’t be adequately showing these games full history if I just ignored the Harry Potter entries. If anything, it just gives me more relevant opportunities to reemphasize support for LGBTQ and progressive voices!
this channel is werid! And thats why I just subbed. Nothing wrong with werid keep it up
Glad to be weird for ya!
The 3ds version was fun but not worth 100 percenting, i do love that these games didnt use the same faces as the legos themself as that was the era of cursed starwars faces
Something of note
Im pretty sure savage opress (or as i like to call him darth luigi since hes just maul but less angry) was only unlockable through codes im the original game as to not spoil his yet to appear place in the show, but in the handhelds he was just a normal unlockable character if i remember right
Those big eyes were HAUNTING. As far as I’m aware, he’s one of the characters missing from the handheld version.
@BaneShake darn, justice for darth luigi
Only in the 3da version by play coins from streetpass
Ohhhhhhh never would have thought of that! Looks like Starkiller may have been one of them too; eight hours since upload and you guys are EDUCATING me!
@BaneShake even Boba Fett was 3ds exclusive.
He sounds like reviewed to death 👀
hell yeah i love this version
maybe i even consider better than the console version but idk 👀
feels very nice seeing an in depth video on youtube talking about it
Who could u say that i already compleated the 3ds and it was pretty boring
Personally, I prefer the PSP version over the console versions. However, the character customization still blows.
Edit: The Star Fox type of space battles kick ass!
I was 8 when lego star wars three came out and I was really into age of empires 3 then, so I was like "broly shit the RTS scenes are epic". Then I played it again in highschool and was like oh yeah this lame.
I suppose the fact that it was successful for a kid was probably the point. I should probably keep that in my perspective making these so I don’t turn into an old man yelling at kids’ games! 👴🏻
Oh! Please do lego Harry potter 1-4 it was so fun and unique that i actually hate the console version! I loved making potions...
As far as ds goes, I'd reccomend desmune for pc and if you own a modded 3ds (20 mins to do) twilight menu is peak, far better than r4 cards
Bro has never driven the funny car in rts battles
I think the ds could have handled SOMETHING the space battles from the revenge of the sith game went hard and there was a battlefront port (no vehicles tho)
I’ll go further and point out the GBA handled space battles in Star Wars: Flight of the Falcon. Sure, most of the game was kinda garbage, but fighting TIE fighters worked! It’s more that they were willing to go SO above and beyond to make a more complicated system on the weakest hardware you could buy at the time that I think impresses me so much.
lfg I love these videos thank you
Always happy to make these!
Random Harry Potter hate rant 🔥🔥🔥
this game was so boring for me. Maybe it’s because I grew up with the xbox version
“I’m Anakin Skywalker….I used to be a stormtrooper” ahhh game!
very good video
swag content
Nah the large battle zones were the best part
That Harry Potter comment earned you another sub
