In my opinion, the best herb for liver disease is milk thistle.
When talking about liver disease, we’re really talking about three things:
    1. Fatty liver (alcoholic and nonalcoholic)
    2. Cirrhosis (scar tissue)
    3. Hepatitis (inflamed liver)
One of the top potential causes of a fatty liver is insulin resistance. You can develop insulin resistance from being on a high-carb diet or from consuming too much sugar. Late end-stage liver disease is irreversible. There is a point of no return.
There are not many symptoms of liver damage until it becomes very advanced. A large belly is a good indicator of a fatty liver. When the liver becomes fatty, the fat spills over into spaces in and around your other organs.
Regardless of which liver problem you have, milk thistle is a fantastic natural remedy to support the liver.
Potential benefits of milk thistle for the liver:
    • It can help protect against poisons
    • It may help reduce fat on the liver
    • It can support liver cell regeneration
    • It can decrease liver enzymes
    • It can increase SOD and glutathione (important antioxidants)
    • It can help lower insulin and improve insulin resistance
    • It may help reduce inflammation

I had end stage liver disease. I was on the transplant list at Penn medicine. My doctor, a liver specialist, told me don't waste my time with milk thistle. I believed him for 4 years. After 6 months of eating organically and taking liver supplements (not liver detox) with milk thistle, my MELD score plummeted and they were amazed. Now I am off the transplant list. By the grace of Jesus I am here today to tell my story. This was caused by years of alcohol abuse and now I'm free. Praise jesus. God bless.

Try tocotrienols 2-300mg a day. It corrects the fibroids already formed in the liver.
My friend took milk thistle for 1.5 years to bring down inflamed liver-enzyme ALT from 178 down to 40-41 at best. Only an addition of tocotrienols got it down to a normal 23.

my mother(76) was told by her doctor to take cholesterol meds. I told her not to take it, since it's damaging to liver. not long after, she was diagnosed with Fatty liver.

about a month later, her Fatty liver was gone.

Other herbs that can regenerate liver functions is Dandelion herb. Can restore some liver functions. Not the best as Milk thistle but work very good expelling toxins and high sugar and makes the pancreas work better, toxins are also removed from you body through Urine. Don't confuse toxins with heavy metal poison, Dandelion also helps but doesn't have the power to do it lonely.
Borututu is another good herb to liver. This herb won't restore but also cleans the liver like Dandelion and Milk thistle

Dr. Berg, I have to thank you for all these valuable videos. I was diagnosed with NAFLD with enlarged liver and my liver enzymes were on the high end. I suffered from abdominal pain on the right side and it was concerning me a lot.
After watching your videos, I first QUIT alcohol (was never a heavy drinker) and I started intermittent fasting (vegetarian diet) for 18 hrs a day for 6 days a week, and 24 hours fasting on the 7th day. I started including more greens in my diet like kale, lettuce, brussel sprouts, broccoli etc, fruits like blueberries, raspberries, bananas, watermelon, papayas, cucumbers etc. I have two eggs a day along with oat meal for dinner with the fruits mentioned above and mix it with oatmilk, super seeds, nutritional yeast, sunflower seeds, papaya seeds, walnuts etc.
Also, started drinking one glass of water with ACV and lemon in the morning. I drink milk thistle tea 3 to 4 times a week after lunch and have one cup of hot black coffee in the morning after I get up. I walk atleast 10 to 15k steps a day and 25k steps on every Saturday. Bottom line, quit alcohol forever, cut carbs to less than 40g a day, increase physical movement, lost 10% of my weight and my liver enzymes dropped down by half (50%). My doctor was surprised and he asked how did you do it? I explained the the above summary to him and he was amazed. Thanks so much Dr. Berg! I have never felt this healthy before and I feel great.

I have a Co-worker where his young daughter had to undergo liver transplant due to an Auto Immune Hepatitis of "Unknown Causes," and he showed me a picture of her old vs new liver. Her damaged liver looked exactly like your Cirrhosis pictures Dr. Berg! What is scary is that she looked normal with a slim figure like me! The father shared his story of how his daughter is going through pretty much Hell after the operation, but she is alive and dealing with other issues after the transplant. At the moment, she has now developed Pancreatitis and apparently has varicose veins in her esophagus.
Definitely a life changing moment for me to take care of my liver and get Alcohol out of my life. I am taking Milk Thistle based on your advice many years ago and I just wanna say Thank You VERY MUCH for all that you do to this world in offering real Medical Advice. Roast 1cup of these seeds in a pan ,then pour it in a grinder add salt, cumin powder, red chilli powder, garlik powder as per your taste and grind it, stoar it in a container and use it in your salads or any recipe or you can take spoonful of this powder(we call this powder chatni) add little bit of butter or oil make a paste and and spread it on toast or bread you will love it. Red chilli powder can be replaced with black pepper or chilli flakes.

I wish I knew about this. It could have helped with my mother. She passed away the beginning of 2021 of liver failure. She all of a suddenly had to be on dialysis for kidney failure beginning/ middle of 2019. However I believe part of why she had liver problems is because she had her gullblader removed back 2013ish, she didn't have much yellow jaundice at the time but kept throwing up bile. After the gullblader removal she got better then the yellow jaundice returned on and off. I'm quite pissed off at the drs here where I live including the family drs nurse practitioners because it seemed to me like they were not trying to help or they didn't care especially when you could clearly see the yellow jaudice in my mothers eye's and skin.

I almost didn't click on this because I am doing much in regards to healthy eating. i leave flowering 'weeds' for the bees until they are done - I left a solo milk thistle growing out the front until all of it's beautiful purple flowers turned white, then a couple of months ago I put the white with the seeds attached into a paper bag - I plan on planting them in pots but hadn't got around to Googling to see what kind of soil and what time of year... I wonder how 'new' the seeds have to be to successfully germinate. I will now look into silymarin products because I most likely have fatty liver - six months ago I stopped walking 12 ks per week on top of my active work and the result is that I've now gone up a size in my clothes... I'm active daily but I have to do more - YOUR VIDEO IS JUST SO COINCIDENTAL AND TIMELY. Oh, I just checked - I take Swisse Liver Detox with actual meals - my fast food is pistachio & walnuts, so I don't take anything to help with digestion... amazing.

What are the chances of allergic reactions to milk thistle? Allergies to food & herbs scares me, and stops me from taking some of these helpful items. My nephew had an anaphylactic reaction to a granola bar when he was 3. I had an allergic reaction to a whey protein shake powder; with so many ingredients, only testing would have shown what triggered the reaction. I've also, somehow, mysteriously, become allergic to penicillin.
