    Thanks so much for this recipe and including them in description box for us. My daughter in law will love this. They use ranch for everything.

    Thank you for this mix recipe!! My husband has a serious corn allergy and I am highly allergic to msgs. It's hard to find premixed packages we can eat. Already ordered everything I need to make this!! Blessings and much love to you and yours. ❤

    I'd like to try making more of these DIY mixes. Thanks for the suggestion of the buttermilk powder. I use the other brand and I didn't know until just a short time ago that it had to be refrigerated. No wonder it always clumped!

    Thank you. I found ranch packets are too salty and more expensive than what seems reasonable ☺️

  • @TheKhopesh
    @TheKhopesh หลายเดือนก่อน

    I like putting the greens (chives, dill, and parsley) in a plastic sandwich bag with the salt (the salt adds a grit to grind it all up) and just rub the bag between my hands/palms until i've got a nice gritty consistency that matches the salt's starting consistency/texture.
    It's worth noting that before the advent of freeze driers to freeze dry food, they would often make ranch by mixing all the other ingredients together ahead of time, then simply minced/crushed onion, garlic, and chives into a paste, and added it all to some fresh buttermilk and mayo before serving it.
    We have the benefit of freeze dried onion and garlic powders as well as chives, so you can simply leave the buttermilk powder out of your mix if you want, and buy fresh buttermilk OR buy a small amount of the powder when you intend to make a batch (rather than leaving a non shelf-stable powder in your fridge for an extended period of time).
    This also GREATLY extends the shelf life of the other ingredients (even if you use shelf stable buttermilk powder, the buttermilk powder is the first ingredient to start to go bad on you, so by keeping it separate you can use it with either powder or fresh buttermilk depending on which is more convenient).

    Why do you refrigerate the powered milk but not the dressing mix (that contains the powered milk)? Just wondering...

    • @artofcreationhomestead
      @artofcreationhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The buttermilk powder that I use does not have to be stored in the refrigerator so the dressing mix does not need to be stored in the refrigerator. But there is another brand that the buttermilk powder has to be stored in the refrigerator and so does the dressing mix.

    You said the container of powdered buttermilk has to be refrigerated after opening. Why doesn't the ranch mix with the buttermilk powder in it have to be refrigerated? Should it be?

    • @artofcreationhomestead
      @artofcreationhomestead  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The Hoosier Hills buttermilk powder that I am using in the video does not need to be refrigerated. So the mix doesn't need to be refrigerated. Any other brand of buttermilk powder does have to be refrigerated , so the mix has to be refrigerated.
