I bought a Micra K11 for £225 in 2006 and, apart from the heat shield falling off the exhaust, it provided 12 months of reliable shoestring motoring. Base spec brilliance. had loads of these old rover 218d back in day good old cheap cars just head gaskets were the only common problem other than that great cars

I had a 1990 1.4L - excellent car, replaced by a 1993 Mk3 1.4LS 82PS (nicer car) and then a 1997 Arctic 16V which was fabulous. After the Mk3 I thought the Astra lost its way but I did like the last GM Astra (had one as a hire car in Germany). Great review, hope Jim is still enjoying the car - actually the wheel trims for the car were standard on GL models, the L had trims with small holes dotted around the edge, but for the facelift they did have those trims, my 1990 L had GL trims

Very gritty, seeing your life struggles. A much more powerful video than lets review this car. The UK is likely recession or barely not in recession due to clever accounting. The national debt is to such a level its in a death spiral manifesting its self in higher yields in the gilts market. Given the gloomy economy, I would expect small cheap to run cars like the Hyundai i10 or Toyota Aygo.

What a great car you have Paul . My 2000 45 L serise which cost me just 700 euros in July has now done another 28,000 km in 7 months with just a a water pump and hose replaced. Truly Amazing cars. i am now on the look out for a diesel 600, the Rover bug has stuck

Good question - what is it about Rover 418 tourer that is so appealing? Ride and handling imho. Maybe that's why you feel you could drive through Asia and on through Canada etc - because it's forgiving to drive. A Golf tdi is not although it would give you similar performance & economy. You might get similar ride/handling from a jag xj but at less than 30 mpg there would be much incentive to dispose of your money in other ways. 418 economical enough to keep your wallet happy and ride/handling/seats adequate to keep your rear end happy.

I have yo say that this particular Rover Estate is the one that appeals to me most, I like slightly tatty doer uppers I like Rovers I like diesels, this ticks all boxes. Cars that are worth real money mean I see real money and would rather have that. Cars thar owe me nowt and are worth only slightly more me all day long. Long may it remain a Mustard motor.

I like that little car. I didn’t know Rover used the pug diesel engine, I had a Peugeot 205 STDT that I wish I’d kept, it was nippy and cheap as chips to run.

Eh up duck, do what I did with my first car, a mk 2 fiesta. I wanted it to be an xr2 but couldn't afford one, so obviously I got a tin of black hammerite and painted a body on to the one I had instead, from 20ft it looked good.

Brilliant video! Certainly my favourite car on your channel. You’re spot on about chasing new things, it’s a false impression of happiness. Things like this lovely Rover are proof that less (seemingly) really is more, plus the fact that it is a time capsule back to a time when life seemed more simple.

I agree Paul, not only the car, but the engine. My first car was a rough rover sd1 3500 V8 manual. I now have a 1996 Volvo 850 T5 auto estate. Love the bloody thing but, if it was the diesel, for me the love would be gone. My T5 is like living with a super model that is an alcoholic 😊 you just couldn't let her go. It costs me a fortune in fuel,but I just love the look and the sound of that 5 cylinder petrol turbo. Like hoping into bed with the super model, you never get fed up with that.😂

The only thing not working in the car is the driver, get back in the garage and tinker 😉 Brilliant treatise on autobonding, thank you.

Great video paul , that's why I drive my estate , for most of the reasons you mention plus it's unique, just like yours . Going back to a previous video , 3 years ago I wanted to get another estate , but Mrs scrotter advised against it , that it turns out was a wrong move , I could have got this estate moved my other one on and made a profit. Oh well that's the way it goes I guess . At one point I wanted to drive my estate to Italy 🇮🇹 , if it keeps going in a couple of years I may well do that , dreams of travel and freedom you can't put a price on it .

Those 75s are a heavy ol' lump to be fair, my mum had the Diesel with the BMW engine and to be fair my diesel Rover 600 got a few more MPG than it.

I imported a 2005 75 v8 in from Germany to Ireland 4 months ago. It was very expensive after all taxes paid. I had a fascination for it when it was new in 2004 I wanted to rent one in London but no car rental companies had one. I came across this ex UK car in Germany with 31,000 miles on it and it is like new. It will only be used very little but thank you for showing the car's failings. I own 3 BMW's 2 M3's and an M6 so I didn't buy the 75 V8 for it's performance but it can shift if you put your foot down. Thanks for the video cheers !

Hello m8 , have you ever thought about doing agency delivery driving , i done it before when i wanted a little extra cash , got a Paid £180 for one day work once and that was just a van , i believe Guys that HGV are on a lot more , its just a idea.

It's a bad time of year for the self employed. Just paid my income tax bill, big utilities bill and service charges. Things will soon improve and it's definitely better than working for 'the man'. Good luck.

Flash your lights at them. If they bought the car with the lights like that then it's still their responsibility. Flashing your lights might not annoy every motorist whose lights are too bright nor the government but it might annoy that particular driver into at least thinking about other road users.
