    Does price or country of origin substantiate conventional thought that more expensive equals better quality in 2023?

      I think that notion is challenged each year. Of course a Made In Japan will be pristine but whether it be Indonesia, Korea or China, it all comes down to QC of the company that makes or breaks it.

    I echo your sentiments on Schecter being my favorite guitar manufacturer currently. I recently purchased a Reaper 6 FRS, Reaper 7 MS, and a Banshee GTFR. Each have a unique tone profile due to their unique pickups and I absolutely adore them all.

    I love the look of the sunset and the price is crazy, but I wish Schecter would not place the bridge pickup so close to the bridge. I own 5 Schecter’s and barely play them anymore as they are quite harsh sounding. The bridge pickup is so much closer to the bridge than my Jackson, Solar and Ibanez guitars.

    Great video my man! Schecter makes great guitars but the sunset extreme is not one of them. I bought one last week (the red one). Played it though multiple amps EVH, Mesa, Engl. I'm sorry but it doesn't sound like a $899 guitar. More like in the $500 range. The pickups are underwhelming at the least. This guitar is just all hype and that's why I returned it after a few days. Have a good one and keep up the great content!

      From my experience, neck comfort is comparable on both brands. I really enjoy SS frets much more as they and for the price the Sunset 6 is a lot cheaper than a DK22. Keep in mind that the Charvel is a sup'ed up fender Strat essentialy, while these Schecters are more modern shredders.

    Too funny you always seem to be thinking what I'm thinking and do a video about it the next day. Been eyeballing both of these and the KM sig for a while now. So hard to tell the specific details in tone with TH-cam compression and using fx on an amp sim etc but is the Tao a little more full sounding? The Sunset sounded a little more "bitey" for lack of a better term? Thank you brotha 🤘🤘🤘

    • @digital360
      @digital360  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes the Tao has a warmer sound overall and just a tad more output according to the wave files. The Sunset has a bit more presence. However if you like the sound of the split coils and that spanky bite, opt for the Tao. Then again, for $700 less, you get true five way selector switch and can get a similar tone on positions 2 and 4. Tao has the more open pore wood feel on the neck and Sunset feels like smooth glass in the hand.
      Not sure if any of that helps. Lol

      @@digital360 Def helps, thanks! I have an Ormsby Hype Elite 6 with that open pore neck and it feels great. I"m def more of a swamp ash guy, I like the single coil spanky djenty vibe too and I'm a huge Browne fan...but trying to not let that influence me in spending $700 more than I have to if the Sunset will satisfy the itch lol.

    • @dreammachine86
      @dreammachine86 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mhoff7722 That's interesting...you're interested in the Schecter KM which I just bought 2 months ago (the mark III Artist version), and I am interested in the Ormsby Hype Elite myself!
      Actually I'm looking at the 8 string version of the Ormsby as I don't have an 8 string yet. The version II of the Hype Elite has one of the nicest looking natural wood tops I've ever seen on a production guitar. I'm sure it would be incredible quality and the neck seems almost as slim as Schecter's ultra-slim which I really like. But ultimately I'm not sure I'd get on with the feel of the Ormsby. The only multiscale I've played so far is the Cort KX507 which I still have despite the KM being a big upgrade, the Cort is such good value it would be silly not to keep it as I'd only get around £200 selling it. It's a 25.5" - 27" 7 string. I've found the higher frets that angle towards the bridge are really comfortable but the lower frets that angle the opposite way seem to make barre chords more difficult. Ormsby have quite a long scale for the 8th string, 28.3" I believe so the fan angle will be even more extreme. Perhaps I would get used to it, Tosin Abasi can play like a god on his multiscale.
      I watch Andrew Baena's channel and he has a Hype GTR; he's mentioned it feels very different to play than most other guitars and appears to have sold it recently. I really liked the sound of its pickups in his demos though. I love the single coil spanky sound for low-tuned metal and djent too! I seem to like Ormsby's 'Hot Rock' humbucker in any demos I've watched as it seems to have that spanky tone, which becomes even more pronounced with the coil split. No idea if the 'Blizzard' that's in the Hype Elite can sound similar though, I haven't found many demos of that guitar or pickup.
      On the topic of single coil sounds for low-tuned guitars, I have an Ibanez AZ24047 atm and that is a 7 string with HSS pickups. It sounds great with the middle or neck single coils but the humbucker doesn't really do it for me and the neck isn't slim like my Schecters. So probably gonna sell that but if I do I will miss having a trem on a 7 string. ESP recently released an 8 string with HSS Fishman pickups and a Floyd Rose! Now that is a pretty crazy spec. It's a signature model for Javier Reyes from Animals as Leaders. Definitely a guitar I would love to try but its pricey, and I don't think my skills are any where good enough to justify getting something like that yet!
      Whilst I love the look of the Hype Elite II I think the 8 string that would make most sense for me knowing that I like the feel of Schecters and their slim necks would be the Tao 8. The Ormsby would be a gamble as to whether I'd get on it with or not but I'm certain the Tao would feel right. John Browne's signature pickups seem cool too, the bridge sounds incredibly agressive, again with the single coil-like percussiveness and the neck sounds nice and fat wherever I've heard it demoed. The finishes don't seem as exciting, I usually love woodsy finishes, and I like the colours red & purple, but the reddy colour of the Tao doesn't jump out to me as a stunning shade and seems to cover most of the wood grain so I think I would actually go for the blue; a pastel blue for an agressive metal 8 string is kinda cool! I didn't actually know who John Browne was until looking into his sig guitar, he actually seems like a really chill guy. Peach Guitars here in the UK have one each of the 6/7/8 strings signed at no extra cost which is tempting.
      Realstically I don't think I'll get an 8 string for a while though, can't really justify spending the money whilst I'm still exploring everything I can do with 7 strings, plus plugins are getting better with pitch shifting effects so I can just use that for now. Although the Hype Elite II is a limited edition so I doubt there will be any opportunity to buy it new in the future.
      With your own search for a decent value 7 string, try checking out Schecter's Sunset Triad. It has a triple-coil bridge pickup and a single coil in the neck. The triple-coil can be split to effectively a middle single coil. Its like an HSS setup squashed together, which gives more space for picking (I found the two single coils being close together on my Ibanez can get in the way of picking). The Sunset Triad is pretty much the same as the Sunset Extreme demoed in this video just with those unique pickups and a black finish (and a tone pot). And like the Sunset Extreme, it is a lot cheaper than the Tao models. No bridge single coil option on the Sunset Triad though, you'd have to modify the wiring for that but the middle coil split may be sufficient for djent spankiness.
      The KM model I have has just been discontinued actually as Keith has switched from Fishman pickups to Lundgren. So if you wanted a KM it would have to be one of the new releases unless you look for pre-owned. And the KM Artist & Legacy models are a similar price to the Tao, if not a little more. I do love the feel of mine, and the versatility of the Fishman pickups. The coil split mode sounds fantastic, all the vibe of a single coil but with less noise and more clarity than splitting any normal humbucker. Not sure you'd like the bridge humbucker though, that's the only thing I've found I dislike about the KM Fishman set...the bridge pickup can compress quite a bit when you really dig in. So you can never really get the proper low-mid growl you'd get from a high output passive like those in the Tao.

    • @dreammachine86
      @dreammachine86 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@mhoff7722 Ahh cool, hope you enjoy the Tao-6! For some reason I thought you were looking at the 7 string version.
      I'm actually thining of getting John Browne's signature bridge pickup (the Colossus) for my Schecter Reaper-6. I'm very happy with the way that guitar plays so can't really justify the cost of upgrading to a Tao-6 but I do find the bridge pickup of the Reaper-6 a bit muddy in humbucker mode. It sounds great in coil split so most of the time that's how I use it but then you get some unwanted noise. So I'm thinking the cost effective way to get better 6 string sound is to drop in the bridge pickup used in the Tao, sounds like it is incredibly clear and agressive.
