My favourite film. The subtext and themes are so intricate and multifaceted, with more and more layers revealing themselves the deeper you dig. I was one of the lucky few to see it at the cinema, and I've rarely found myself so totally immersed in a film. Afterwards I couldn't get it out of my head for weeks, and I still think about it regularly to this day.

Same experience for me. I wasn't quite sure WHAT I thought or felt about it upon seeing it in the theater when it was released. But it lingered with me for weeks and weeks, and by the time it premiered on Amazon and I saw it again it had become an absolute favorite film of mine as well. Such a deeply rich, artistic experience every time I watch it. I'm so glad to see this groundswell of appreciation that the film is building.

@@Polymorphia1965 yes, this one's well overdue for public reappraisal. As you say, great that people are slowly catching on to how good it actually is.

I love this movie. Im not a dakota johnson fan but thought she was good in this role. I loved Tilda swinton and mia goth! Do you think rituals like the ending dance scene actually happen?

Dance is very much a ritual for many cultures. We wouldn't go so far as to say there are dances out there that break people's bones! But there are dances that free your soul, allow you to connect with your community, and express emotions that are otherwise hard to communicate. Dance can be quite powerful.
