Plenty of people die in flashbacks. Theres not a single person that isnt upset about him being alive. Oda typically is 5-6 weeks ahead of when a chapter is officially released and the chapter where pell blew up was officially released in November of 2001. The girl with the bag was a filler character that you guys skipped.
I think this is omega cope. The next saga has plenty of characters that make heroic sacrifices similar to Pell and end up being alive. The simple explanation is that Oda doesn't like to kill characters outside of flashbacks. And if a character dies it needs to have a big impact on characters and the plot in the future. There is just really not much that changes if Pell dies. So he doesn't.
Well I'll be the first one you've seen that actually was happy that Pell didn't die. People don't value life as much as they should and self individualize the importance of their own feels in other people's stories. Not to say that's bad for fictional stories to put how you felt about it but i loved he lived because of what Pell ment to Vivi not to me. If I thought someone I cared and love for was dead and found out they hadn't I would be overjoyed finding out they were alive. And I love that for Vivi.
@wavemoon I disagree. Sure not much changes from our perspective of the story but it does cheapen his sacrifice. I would've been fine if we saw him throw throw the bomb up and then dive down when it explodes... but he was still holding onto it. since the falcon that he is is the fastest diving bird there is. Spoiler for the next arc below. Speaking of the next arc... 90% of humans that are struck by lightning survive. Thats a statistical fact. So, it's not surprising that people don't die in a fictional story where they can take much more damage than a real human.
@@Danielpooh I agree and when I first watched it I felt the exact same way. But that's because I didn't think about it back then. Re-watching it many years later, suspension of disbelief isn't as easy for me, so the contrast between the size of the explosion shown and Pell surviving kind of hits you in the face. I'm not gonna complain about it - it's just the way Oda does things, and I don't have to agree with him on everything. It does feel kind of weird, though, so when new people notice and comment on it, it's perfectly understandable as well.
Vivi and Caroo brought a lot to the group. I say that Vivi had the best diplomacy, even taught Luffy how to be a better captain back in Drum PD: Pell not dying is one of Odas biggest mistakes
24:32 Kuina, Zoro's childhood friend, died. Bellemere Nami's adoptive mom, died. Hiluluk, Choper's, adoptive dad, died. So... There isn't much dead in OP, unlike anyother anime, but when they do. It will leave a scar in the fans heart.
Death Count is actually shockingly high when people hear it they dont usually believe it, I dont want to say outright in case they read my comment and put expectations to the number. Although for those familiar with the series I suggest looking into it if you're curious.
Oda really make sure that you are hook up into those characters, not 1 or 2 characters but so many characters. That's why one piece is so unique and superior than other animes.
About Django and Fullbody, I dont recall all the details but way back then there was a cover story and something said by Oda, that in some situations a marine can give a pardon for a pirate's crimes but it causes him to drop in rank, but Django helped out Fullbody in a dire situation or something so Fullbody entered the plea and they sponged Django's record and demoted Fullbody. But then they became friends and started working and training under Hina. So now Kuro's crazy hypnotist murderer is now a marine. I'll brush up on the details later because I forgot most of their story, but your video just reminded me of how funny they are lol
Pell is so fast he outflew the blast radius. He's a Peregrine Falcon which can reach up to speeds of 240 MPH irl, likely more in an anime. It's as simple as that.
I know someone probably told you by now but this chapter came out around 9/11 and oda's editor said having pell die by a terrorist bomb would insult the U.S. that is why pell survived. He was written from the beginning to die by explosion.
24:21 Pell was actually supposed to be dead but due to the 9/11 attacks oda and the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the tower and bombings therefore made the change.
Pell didn't die because:- 1. This manga chapter was released during 9/11 attack and initially Pell was going to die but due to 9/11 incident editor told him not to do this due to sensitive topic that time (esp. on the topic of terrorism and bombing). 2. Oda didn't like to kill his character since this was shonen manga and specifically for kids and he was not that perfect mangaka at that time. 3. Pell is basically falcon zoan bird which means the fastest bird so he might have dived so fast after bomb was bombed since he was able to pull up that bomb within such a limit amount of time. (Sorry for bad english)
Oh wow I didn't know that. That's actually a goooood reason to write it how he did. Silly as it seems that was appropriate for the time. Thank you for sharing this.

ABOUT THR BAG: it was just a funny gag that birds steal travellers food , that girl was random probably never coming back and the bird just dropped the bag full of food to pell thats it, i believe.
The explanation on how Pell survived the explosion is that zoan type devil fruit users are alooooot more tankier than normal ppl so instead of the explosion killing him it left him at half dead
Pell was originally gonna die but due to the 9/11 attacks oda and the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the tower and bombings therefore made the change
falcon is the fastest animal in the world, so it's no wonder Pel survived the explosion and one more thing.. the girl who took the bag and the boat in the desert is from the filler episode of one piece
@@tranatkikomi6873 yeah, I would've wished that they just watch the fillers of the anime reaction on their own time tho and if they think that that episode is kind of important or fun to watch post it as well, so that they can still have the information about the world and other characters. Some fillers do have some smidgen of information given that is actually canon so that they can follow more and lessen their confusion about some things. I'm still salty about the Naruto filler after Pain arc hahah😅. But anyway, still love their reactions this is just a tiny bit of complaint from mine huehue
Such a good ending. Bon Kurei is the GOAT, and Vivi saying goodbye to the crew is always so sad to see, but she's got her own job to do. She's a noble, she has a country to help run, and she understands that. Everything she was doing with the Straw Hats was in service to helping her country, and now that she's completed that mission, she gets to do the things she should've been doing all along. Also kind of funny that the complaint of "Vivi doesn't bring much to the table in terms of skillset" came up when Robin joins the crew. Aside from her Devil Fruit power, she doesn't bring much to the crew on a surface level either; her skills as an archaeologist aren't exactly conducive with piracy, but she's still a great and important addition to the team. As much so as Vivi could've been; she could've been sort of the diplomat, the face of the crew, had she stayed on, so despite not being a strong fighter, she could've still had a part on the ship.
13:40 Vivi taught luffy a valuable lesson in how to be a captain. As a teacher I learn more from my students than I did from some of my greatest professors. The value of a person especially in this show isn’t based on their fighting prowess.
17:50 An interesting fact is that Oda planned to kill Pel, but the editors intervened, as a major terrorist attack occurred shortly before the release of the chapter. And there was censorship on the victims of the explosions.
Oda is very good a creating characters you hate at first, before developing them into characters you love. My favorite character joins the crew. I think you'll like her; she brings a very different energy and dynamic to the crew. The answer to almost all One Piece questions are, in no particular order: 1. Devil Fruit 2. Spoilers 3. Because it's funny 4. Because it's cool 5. We still don't know Thanks for the reactions.
Something Luffy has established from the very first episode when he started building his crew is that he has never looked for what they can bring to the table. His criteria has always been "a good person" or a "fun/cool/interesting person". Chopper was dragged onto the crew when Luffy didn't even know he was a doctor. He just thought him being a transforming talking reindeer was cool. Usopp was also kinda useless when he first joined, he was just a liar until they found out he had good aim. And I think Vivi helps soften the little friction that pops up once in a while and contributes some form of common sense that the other lack. For example, when Ace first met everyone, she was the first to realise the crew's comments about how sensible Ace was compared to Luffy was a bit insensitive (though we know Luffy won't get offended), and when Nami was ill, she was the only one who knew what to do and that they needed a doctor ASAP.
I'm sure the patrons have told you this, the girl is from filler episode that you guys skipped and the bag is about that episode. And of course there are already dead people in this show so far, like; Kuina(Zoro's friend), usopp's mom, Bellemere-san(Nami's mom), & dr hiluruk(chopper's dad)
I hope you guys can see this regarding Vivi. Vivi's role would have been as diplomat. Her entire arc was her trying to neutralize a rebellion. She could've been their strategist in winning people over the easy way, creating alliances, etc. This would've saved the straw hats a lot of trouble in the coming arcs.
25:03 If you want to know why Pell is still alive, the story was released around the 9/11 attacks on the US (2000-2002 for the entire Alabasta arc). He was meant to die heroically but they felt it was insensitive. Upon reflection by Oda it is largely considered the biggest oversight in One Piece history and seldom if ever happens again in the story because as you've realised it doesn't really make any sense. There is plenty of death, Bell-mere, Dr Hiluik & Kuina spring to mind before Alabasta. Try to remember in the early days, circa 1999 this stuff was aimed a lot at just kids, anime was still very much a sub-culture in the west. I was still watching bootleg copies of Ghost In The Shell/Akira. Different time.
Like five months too late lol, but this is not true at all. The 911 thing is completely made up and has never been substantiated by any actual source. One piece wasn’t even being published in English at the time, so a Japanese author was not going to change his story over an American event.
Also one piece originally was supposed to be a 5year journey, so about to end within the 200ts of episodes. however it was so popular from the get go, they extended it to this never ending story. BUT that also means theres a ton of build up and forshadowing for the major plot within these first 200ish capters/episodes.
Pell being alive is still mysterious for us too but I can speculate; that Zoan fruit devil users has 3 forms. Pell dying while in his Full hawk form might have saved him but in return He lost that full hawk form leaving him with only 2 forms to tranform into
Vivi not joining and being an unofficial straw hat is much better. The Straw Hats all have a dream they are chasing. Alabasta is already Vivi's treasure. There is no dream for her to chase on the grandline. As for Pell's death.: The reality is Oda doesn't like to kill characters but still likes doing heroic sacrifice scenes. So unless it's a flashback scene it's best to assume that characters don't die. In the extremely rare instances where a character outside of a flashback does die Oda will make it so incredibly blatent that there is no room for interpretation left.
The people you're confused about are folks that you missed cuz you didn't see the filler episodes. People do die in OP. Also did you guys see the bounty update? I know it was the first time change, the next times you guys will notice haha.
"why is that emotional" is the best way to describe one piece PS: no one likes the fact that pell survived but this came out around 9/11 so the author thought an eagle getting nuked in the desert wouldve been in bad taste
Like five months too late lol, but this chapter did not come out around 9/11 and the series wasn’t even translated into English at this point. This is just a ridiculous rumor that American fans made up because they think everything revolves around them.
@@topramen5344 Americans really think the world revolves around them… A terrorist attack in America had absolutely nothing to do with a manga that had not even been translated into English yet. Find an interview with Oda confirming this ridiculous thing you’ve repeated- oh wait, you can’t. Because it’s completely made up What you’re saying doesn’t even make a lick of sense. The eagle did get nuked. That happened on the page. If Oda wanted to be sensitive, which again a random Japanese author did not care about, he would’ve skipped the bomb entirely.
Don't worry. I felt the same. Vivi isn't a good enough fighter to be one of the crew. And at most, you could say she's good in political issues (like back in drum island where she taught Luffy how to be a good leader to save nami), but that's about it. But still, she is undoubtedly one of the unofficial straw hats member like nobody else.
Vivi goodbye scene is always good and I think the starw hats putting their arms up is them telling Vivi she is still an official member of the Straw Hats even though she isn't traveling with them. Also is Vivi did travel with them I think she would be the Straw Hats diplomat her status would make her respected in other nations she travel do and she will be good at negotiations because as a princess she would of learned these things. Also hoping the LA version on OP will actually kill of Pell as Pell should of die.
You nailed it Ron… Every crew member has a specific role on the ship, a specific title and a dream that pushes them to become pirates and follow Luffy. Vivi doesn’t. Her motivation was always to save her people.
if i had to pick a job for vivi... would be diplomate. think about it, they go to new islands all the time they could use a diplomate making good relations from the start XD.
They saw the live action, so kinda had to. Also we all know you gotta get through the guffy and slightly boring part to get to the epic mindfck part and to proper hit you.
I just got like 9 dollars back from a better help settlement. Mental health is very important, getting scammed by profit driven sites should not be promoted.
Why he is still alive? The nuke is said to be strong enough to destroy Alabasta and kill thousands of people. PEll was originally gonna die but due to the 9/11 attacks oda and the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the tower and bombings therefore made the change.
Vivi will play a major role in the future. Trust me :) ...and yeah, Pell survived just because Oda was always against a dying of a character, even a side character. But still, in my humble opinion I would say that a good feature that Zoan Type Devil Fruit users have more than Logia's and Paramecia's, is a good fast regeneration. Still, Pell is a miracle character that Oda (till this day) has doubts that he still saved Pell.
Most of One Piece fans consider Vivi as a Honorary Member of Straw Hat. Even Oda himself stated in SBS that Vivi is always Straw Hat by giving her official number's crew. Luffy = 1, Zoro = 2, Nami = 3, Usopp = 4, Sanji = 5, Vivi = 5.5, Chopper = 6.
No one dies in One Piece until they do.

@@rustygear447 Brother that explanation made the fakeout even worse. The anime does an even better job of selling his death as a heavy moment and then they have to bring him back cuz oops Law didn't put me back together properly.
@@rustygear447 it's the opposite, pel u can shut down ur brain and say he's a zoen and the durability and regeneration that comes with it helped him,Kenny on the other hand survived cuz law didn't attach his body properly?? Law? Who's always good and careful at what he does forgot something like this? And also his DF never showed that shit like this can happen, and kaido so conveniently cut at EXACTLY where mfkn law cut Kinney? COME ON. I still remember that chapter and everyone's reaction to it....disappointment was the common feeling in the fandom.
I just act like this never happened.... he's dead to me 🙂
Plenty of people die in flashbacks.
I say that Vivi had the best diplomacy, even taught Luffy how to be a better captain back in Drum
PD: Pell not dying is one of Odas biggest mistakes
Pell is a falcon The top speed of a falcon, specifically the peregrine falcon, is over 240 miles per hour (386 kilometres).
Plot twist: it's not vivi it's robin 😅
Same emotions here! More emptional moments to come! Woaaaah! I love the fact that ron will not hold his tears anymore.
Belle-mere did die. A mountain bandit died, Kuro killed a lot of marines.
Lol
It's kind of a meme that people only die in backstories in One Piece. Nobody in the present story ever dies. Right!?! 🤭
@@kzbw not gonna spoil 🤣
24:32 Kuina, Zoro's childhood friend, died.
Bellemere Nami's adoptive mom, died. Hiluluk, Choper's, adoptive dad, died.
So...
There isn't much dead in OP, unlike anyother anime, but when they do. It will leave a scar in the fans heart.
No one died in the current story line, that's what they meant.
Death Count is actually shockingly high when people hear it they dont usually believe it, I dont want to say outright in case they read my comment and put expectations to the number. Although for those familiar with the series I suggest looking into it if you're curious.
@@isaac3078 No one died in the show, that's what they said...
@@kevinlengkoan8534 Yes but they meant what I said above
Oda really make sure that you are hook up into those characters, not 1 or 2 characters but so many characters. That's why one piece is so unique and superior than other animes.
24:21 "nobody dies in this show"... Speak to Roger, Kuina, Bell-mère, Hiluluk
Zeff’s crew, the rest of the people on the Orbit (the ship Sanji worked on)…
Outside a flashback. This is normal for shounen.
The writing on those jokes are insanely good, I watched it over a 100 times and I still laugh
"Who is that girl and whats in the bag?" This is why i dont skip fillers
Oda is so good at making you hate/love a "bad guy" so many turn out to be some of the best characters
22:54 That was PERFECT impersonation dude! x'D
This is not true stop saying this fake shit
11:40 ...... one of the most iconic moments .... not only in OnePiece ... but whole amine/manga-verse
Robin saying she's an assassin is a joke, she has a dark sense of humor.
Spanda disagrees.
Bon Clay has a strong sense of friendship!
Nobody dies in this show… 😢
Pell didn't die because:- 1.
That has been debunked MANY times, stop spreading false information god
This isn't actually true

listen, i dont want to knock you guys for getting sponsors, im glad for you! get that bag! :) however i do want to make you aware of the fact that betterhelp has been in SEVERAL controversies regarding their service, with actual, real, licensed therapists talking about how theyre really shitty for the people working there and that there is NO quality control that protects the people getting therapy through them. theyve already had a whole seperate controversy many years ago, like 2018 or something, but i guess by now everyone has forgotten about that and they just started a new round of sponsorships. but there are a LOT of concerns about confidentiality with them. iirc theyve been found to just...sell or otherwise distribute your very very private health information for marketing purpose and who knows for what else. this is no laughing matter i dont think.
yeah idk if youll ever see this but honestly youre not a small channel and if you need sponsors, try to get some that dont have several massive controversies hanging over them! for your own sake if nothing else 😅😅
ABOUT THR BAG: it was just a funny gag that birds steal travellers food , that girl was random probably never coming back and the bird just dropped the bag full of food to pell thats it, i believe.

I love this scene🥲❤
Vivi would have been the crew's diplomat. She saved Nami's life by negotiating in Drum for example, she'd definitely have a place on the crew.
Not this time though, maybe on some future time ^_^
The explanation on how Pell survived the explosion is that zoan type devil fruit users are alooooot more tankier than normal ppl so instead of the explosion killing him it left him at half dead
Pell was originally gonna die but due to the 9/11 attacks oda and the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the tower and bombings therefore made the change
falcon is the fastest animal in the world, so it's no wonder Pel survived the explosion
and one more thing.. the girl who took the bag and the boat in the desert is from the filler episode of one piece
And that’s why we don’t skip anime filler because the episodes counted as canon will show them and you’ll be like “who’s that…?”
Vivi and Bon chan will always be honorary straw hats!!! they will never be forgotten💜💙
13:40 Vivi taught luffy a valuable lesson in how to be a captain. As a teacher I learn more from my students than I did from some of my greatest professors. The value of a person especially in this show isn’t based on their fighting prowess.
Rewatching Bon clay has me in tears any time I see my honorary straw hat. Bon-Clay is the GOAT
The answer to almost all One Piece questions are, in no particular order:
1. Devil Fruit
2. Spoilers
3. Because it's funny
4. Because it's cool
5. We still don't know
Thanks for the reactions.
Plus thousands more in the recent releases
Pell dying while in his Full hawk form might have saved him but in return He lost that full hawk form leaving him with only 2 forms to tranform into
"No one die in this show" NOOOOOOO YOU BOTH GONNA REGRET THIS OMGGG i can already feel the pain
I mean, if Vivi had joined then she would just have leveled up over time, in the same way as Usopp and Nami are doing.
10:11 "can he just stretch and grab her" thats in another scene 😂😂😂
One of the important crew has joined 💪
The people you're confused about are folks that you missed cuz you didn't see the filler episodes. People do die in OP. Also did you guys see the bounty update? I know it was the first time change, the next times you guys will notice haha.
"why is that emotional" is the best way to describe one piece
PS: no one likes the fact that pell survived but this came out around 9/11 so the author thought an eagle getting nuked in the desert wouldve been in bad taste
Like five months too late lol, but this chapter did not come out around 9/11 and the series wasn’t even translated into English at this point. This is just a ridiculous rumor that American fans made up because they think everything revolves around them.
@ it came out in 2002 and the whole world was affected by 9/11 but nice try
@@topramen5344 Americans really think the world revolves around them…
A terrorist attack in America had absolutely nothing to do with a manga that had not even been translated into English yet. Find an interview with Oda confirming this ridiculous thing you’ve repeated- oh wait, you can’t. Because it’s completely made up
What you’re saying doesn’t even make a lick of sense.
Oda does a good job at making u care for almost every character even if u hate them at 1st
I feel like Vivi would've been the crew's diplomat.

They watched Iike 100 episodes out of 1200. What's that? One out of a dozen? Give them time.
Why he is still alive? The nuke is said to be strong enough to destroy Alabasta and kill thousands of people. PEll was originally gonna die but due to the 9/11 attacks oda and the editors felt it insensitive at the time considering the tower and bombings therefore made the change.
Now onto one of my favourites, Skypiea
Vivi is forever part of the crew to me
She's like 50-50.
"no one dies in this show" 👀
Vivi will play a major role in the future. Trust me :)
...and yeah, Pell survived just because Oda was always against a dying of a character, even a side character.
But still, in my humble opinion I would say that a good feature that Zoan Type Devil Fruit users have more than Logia's and Paramecia's, is a good fast regeneration. Still, Pell is a miracle character that Oda (till this day) has doubts that he still saved Pell.
17:40 the Dark Pellknight rises
Most of One Piece fans consider Vivi as a Honorary Member of Straw Hat.
Even Oda himself stated in SBS that Vivi is always Straw Hat by giving her official number's crew.
