The windshield wiper turning button is for adjusting the frequency of the wipers when in interval mode. Set the wiper stalk to interval, then turn the knob to adjust the frequency of the wiper.

I had a base 997 a few years back with just the basic radio. I wanted to add an amp and subs like you. I ended up buying the factory sub box off eBay and mounting it in the rear so it looked like a factory install. I put the amp in the front where the factory disc changer usually is. It was a clean install and the factory subs actually sounded pretty good.

I think with the size you’re working with you could genuinely get everything you’d realistically want from an 8” or even 6” Sub with a small enclosure that could tuck very nicely into that car. 10” is pretty overkill for a well balanced system.

Front speakers are 3 piece components; dashboard is mid + tweeter, doors are woofers…factory amp drives the doors @ 2-ohms (wired in series), dashboard uses a resistor on the tweeters instead of a crossover.

5:20 this rotary knob increases the Resting Intervals of windshield wiper operation (while wipers in 1st setting) when rotated counter-clockwise, the resting interval shortens as you rotate it clockwise. it works pretty well in my 996, but I got lucky & found a creampuff with only 62k & all receipts of service records that date back W’s POTUS era. cheers

21:32 I went exactly the same way when I installed my backup cam on my 996.2 Carrera (4 or 5 years back - car already sold meanwhile). Funny you came up with the same idea. Removing all the panels and putting it all together again took me a few hours on a weekend. It was way much more work than I expected.
22:42 yes, keep it as it is... leave the original stuff as is... exactly how I did it, too (been there, done that)
If I buy another C2 (which is a possibility right now, I am thinking/ waiting for the proper car... which may also be a Porsche again) I would like to do a center console delete as it can be seen in some of the GT3 of that era.
TBH, if I would do a new headunit - I would go for the Porsche Solution (not sure what it is called, but there is one available exactly for 996 to update the radio/navi system). It has that OEM look I like... but if I did that, I couldnt do the center console delete (you need one slot for heater head unit). Yikes she said, thats what she said.
Keep them coming, I like this content (and makes me want a 996 again, too).

I once paid "professionals" at Circuit City to install a head unit, amps, speakers, and subs in a vehicle. They ran RCA cables from the head unit to the amps like they should, but then they ran speaker wire from the amps back to the factory radio harness in the dash to splice into the factory speaker wires 🤦‍♂ You just never know what you're going to get...

But when I got a little older and had more money with nicer vehicles I saved up to get the top end equipment available then and I wanted to make sure that it was installed perfectly. I'm assuming the factory amp would've worked as the crossover. If I were you I would run a resistor from the tweeters and run it to the main speaker then directly to the stereo and just bypass all that dodgy wiring remove all the amp wiring and just run all of your own. I Highly recommend staying away from any of the bose crap. I don't know if the 996 had a bose system option from the factory or not. It came in my 997.1 though. And I am definitely not impressed. The bass note is pathetic and at higher volume the distortion is ridiculous. I want to rip out my bose crap and put in focal speakers for the component speakers and then do the shallow 10 inch jl audio sub with the jl audio Amp.
