It just gets better and better, shortie ratcheting spanners are a must for a diy guy.
Clapper 911 to bad ass Porsche, cant wait to see the exhaust and coilovers to finish off the mechanical upgrades. I was gonna say paint for last but I see your already on that too. Niiiiccceee :) much respect for your skills and patience
Thank you! It’s all coming together!
Really like your videos, especially the 996 content. Keep it up brother! Can't wait to see the car painted... it really needed it
Sure does need it!
Rapidly turning into my favorite channel!
Awesome to hear!
Zero rust, good thing they galvanize the frame. She's got good bones. These have a nice kick when the boost comes in. PAINT NICE!
Good bones for sure, just needs love!
That car is looking great! Can’t wait to see the new paint!
Me too, been waiting on the paint! Hopefully once’s he’s done with most upgrades get the paint job done
I’ve seen photos so far, looks amazing!
The lemon banana gets paint! Woohoo
My OCD didn't like you didn't clean the calipers... Can't wait for this car to get a full paintjob :) So exciting. This will really transform the car (and some lowering springs)
I cleaned them but just not great. Just a quick clean.
Can’t wait to hear that new exhaust!
Paint!!! Yay!!! No more 50 Shades of Yellow!
No more!!
Coming along. It's going to be a sweet car again.
Yeah! Let's go! Can't wait to see how minty it looks after the fresh paint!
18:02 eh different front and rear, no biggie. Yay!!! Getting painted!!
Well done, loving this build and so happy you have it in the paint shop.
Wow! 18lb off of unsprung weight 😳
That’s like 70lb off the total car.
Loving the progress on this car! Keep it up Matt with the good content!
Thank you!!
Cool brand new paint job no more 50 shades of yellow. Nice
Yessir!
Just looking at the drill pattern on the front rotor you installed on the right (in case the drill pattern matches the internal vanes), i honestly think they are mounted the wrong way around. Even though i did see the drawing on the plastic cover. Rotors should force the air out of the edge of the rotor by the high centrifugal forces and not try to scoop air in, if you know what i mean. Perhaps they bagged them the wrong way. Or the internal air channels are right and opposite to the holes…
Just checked the Google. Internal air vanes are most important, they should point backwards to expell air outward to the edge of the disc when rotating. The slots and drill pattern should point forward indeed to go against the brake pads. So they may be installed the right way after all on the condition that the internal vanes are pointing backwards…
Looking at 1:55 i think the internal vanes are indeed opposite direction to the slots and drill pattern so everything is installed correctly. Not sure why i doubted Rennlines instructions. Perhaps time to go to bed….
Hahaha. I thought the same thing when I put similar rotors on my E36. All good!
Coming along nicely! Stoked to see your fresh paint. 🤙🏽
You and me both!
I am so excited you are getting the car repainted. I’ll be honest, those rear lights need to go. The black tint makes the car look so ricey..!
I know it’s not a priority, but with the new paint a pair of new taillights would match.
I know I know I know. But they are like, last on my list lol.
With post mounted calipers, it seems like some spacers, shims, or washers could have fixed the rotor hat issues on the rear is it was not too far off.
That was our initial thought. But since the hub is larger, the rotor surface is smaller than the brake pads.
Those Motive power bleeders are a game changer. But would have been the time for caliper rebuilds with new silicone seals (and a cosmetic powdercoat refresh).
Rebuilds and coating eventually. Didn’t want it down that long lol.
Yes!!!! This project is amazing.
Regards the brake pad.
I did exactly the same thing. Worrying thing is, it passed a UK MOT. I noticed myself and swapped it over before any damage was done.
Yikes!!
those rotors are epic
don't be more like that person stopping in the middle of an intersection to let someone go while may be polite is illegal and can be dangerous.
"Be predictable, not polite" is what I've always heard
That intersection always has backed up traffic. So it wasn’t a sudden stop, cars in front and behind that guy.
Love the series! Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the new extended reach ratchet 2569-20. I have the same one you have and I will never pick it up again after getting the new one.
I’ve had my eye on that!
@@matt13ross you’ll love it!
Man, two good news videos in a row!! You might have turned the corner. Before it seemed like it was 2 steps forward, 1 step back. The 996 is coming along pretty great!! Can’t wait to see it all in ONE SHADE OF YELLOW!! Good stuff, dude!!

@@K1dPhresh1 lol I know I guess
I also can’t wait lol.
A-ha! To make such awesome progress with the car I knew you had to have a background team! Proof: 1:04 - 1:10.
The dogs? Lol
@@matt13ross 😆You should introduce them to us!
I’ve had them in a few vehicles haha
Project: "50 Shades of Yellow" is coming along!
Will be just one shortly!
I'm doing 2pc rotors, fluid, braided lines, brake piston rebuild, & ceramic street pads on my bmw this spring. Not looking forward to the work, but looking forward to the performance, lmao.
Yea that's a lot of dirty work!
Great content cheers Matt
These videos are very helpful. Brake wear sensor just came up on my 986 S and I was in the fence about hawk pads. Also plan to replace a rear wheel bearing as I think it’s going out. Might do stainless brake lines while I’m in there.
Apparently the bolts that hold in the caliper need to be replaced once they are removed as they are stretch bolts
They make upgraded bolts, I may get them.
New paint! 👍
Nothing like hammer impacting the rotor hat screws! To heck with the next guy that will need to take them off. Love it! Good Stuff! Yellow is such a hard to color match but now the whole car will be uniform can't wait to see it!
It was a light tap I assure you lol.
Nice project 👌
Id like to see some carbon seats and steering wheel, that would make it look way better
May be already coming 😀
@Matt13Ross so excited for you and so well deserved after all the hard work! must be an incredible gratifying feeling? ;) whats the status on the exhaust? i would love to see and learn about that process!!
Exhaust is now on order since we hit the goal!
Solid weight savings 🤔
You’ve got something sliding around in your car. Sounds like a small screw in a plastic tray or cup holder (or inside the door panel). Every time you break or accelerate, we all hear it sliding around. Do you hear it when you’re driving?
Haha yes that’s the bolts for the door panel, they are sitting in a cubby since the panel is off.
It's a real German vehicle !!! Spends more time on the quick jacks than it dose on the road. 😂
Yup 😂
I hope you’ll be doing aftermarket air intake and after market exhaust with electronic cutouts! Great build so far
It has an aftermarket intake, but I'm swapping that for oem. Exhaust coming.
Love ironi comments....🤘
awesome
love your videos
Love the truck videos
Working on a truck video today!
I was hoping it was a paint shop😅
Yea I’m not attempting to paint it myself lol.
@@matt13ross 😂
Great videos - what’s it boosting at?
.4 with the CEL
What is the tool you're using to get the set screws out of the rotors Matt? Been watching your videos a while, just picked up a 01 turbo myself! Excited to wrench.
It’s called an impact screwdriver. All the big makers sell them, great for rounded off screws also
Yup, impact screwdriver. Great tool!
I have 2 piece rotors and it's unreal how much lighter they are than one piece rotor. I haven't owned a car with CCB but I can only imagine how much lighter they are. I can't remember if 1 lbs of rotational weight is equal to 4 or 7 lbs of sprung mass, but the benefits of saving a few lbs of rotational and unsprung weight can't be overstated.
Makes me want to get some for my E36.
@Matt Ross CCBs or 2 piece? I replaced the torsion bars on my Yukon with Viking coilovers, which was good for dropping 90lbs off the front, and then I did Brembo BBK with bigger 2 piece rotors, bigger lighter aluminum Brembo calipers and lighter wheels and smaller diameter tires which dropped a total of probably 100lbs of unsprung and a little rotational weight. The difference was shocking but then when I replaced my tires I went from 275/40/20 and 315/35/20 to 275/55/20 and 325/50/20 Nitto 420V. I love the added sidewall height, but the tires gained some weight lost and got back closer to the original OD. So I pretty much halved my gains. Once these Nittos wear out, I will probably go back to the 275/40 and 315/35 if I keep these wheels.
I used to ride liter bikes and I didn't understand the almost $4200 price for some BST carbon fiber wheels because they only dropped 7.5 to 8 lbs I believe it was. Then I rode on a Yamaha R1 with BST wheels, ceramic wheel bearings, floating brake rotors and billet Brembo calipers, and a 520 chain with lightened aluminum rear sprocket and steal front sprocket. Total weight savings was maybe 10 or 11lbs but it cost close to $7k on a bike that was $12k new. I wasn't prepared for the difference those wheels were going to make and just how much unsprung and rotational weight really plays apart and helps performance a great deal.
Lets go Brandon! Love your friend
bad vc boot on front right? I can see the grease build up on the strut by the outer joint
VC boot?
@@matt13ross I meant cv. As in cv axel joint 😃
If Matt didnt get all the parts and nice tools sponsored, he woulda been 10k down in a heart beat on this lil runner :D the avg. joe woulda had a very deep conversation with the ms, telling him to stop before the divorce.
Oh trust me, I’ve paid for most of the parts. Some have been free from Rennline or discounted from others, but the bill is still very high lol.
@@matt13ross Ya gotta be :D! but the content is great.. My wife woulda left me haha
Are we getting the new exhaust?
Not quite at 3k likes, but looks like we will hit it!
14lbs of unsprung weight removed nice!
And these wheels are WAY lighter than my old ones.
It saves a lot of time to just store the quickjacks under the car and leave the hoses connected.
Not a bad idea
@@matt13ross That's what I do with mine, and I have a 911 too so as long as you have a straight shot into your garage, not a problem. Disconnect the pump, coil the hoses, put the rubber blocks away, push the quickjacks together and done. I'm a lazy, lazy guy and wrestling those things around got old fast.
Dude, is it always grey and overcast where you live? It never looks like you ever have nice sunny days.
Yes, because PA, and PA sucks lol.
It's always nice to have better brakes to go with the boost leak 🤣🤣🤣
Well, the major boost leak has been solved.
The first mod you should do is the tune.
Needs a clutch first.
Nice upgrades! I just wish someone made a slotted only rotor as I’m not a fan of the drawbacks of a drilled rotor. Btw is that a QuickJack 5000TL you have?? I want to pull the trigger on a QJ but I don’t have my C4S available for measuring the jack points to make sure which model I need.
I just paused the video right at the start and can see it says “5000TL” on them!😃 ordering now!
Love them! I think I have them linked too.
I understand having a sponsorship, and getting some free new pads and rotors, but the wear and rust on the original pads and rotors was very minimal and did not by itself justify a full brake replacement. Porsche OEM brakes are Brembos, basically the best you can get. I don't see replacing them, at least on my car, with (probably) Chinese-made parts. Especially with parts that don't fit. (I bet the outer rotor iron portion of those Rennline rotors is sourced from PRC even if the hub portion is USA).
The turkey baster is the right tool to remove brake fluid from the reservoir, but you have to pull the screen out; use a small pick. A problem is, though, that brake fluid will dissolve or crack a plastic baster over time. I use an old-stock glass one I found at an estate sale.
I don't think you'd ever notice a difference with the rear pads regardless of the brand used. The front brakes do most of the work.
The brakes will last a long time on a manual shift car. Of course, depending on how you drive.
In my opinion, the stock brakes leave much to be desired as far as dust and brake feel. These are much better feeling, lighter, aren't rusted, and shouldn't be so dusty.
Ma cars hasn't posted yet.

Coilovers??????
Coming later
@@matt13ross it’s strange, I feel like the front end is sitting up higher then normal. Almost like it has a lift on but I know that car did not come with them. Or maybe the rear struts are starting to give out, idk.

That guy that let you in was a 🤡you should never stop in the middle of traffic just to let someone into traffic. It unsafe and careless.
Not when there is a long stopped line both in front and behind him.
@@matt13ross weeellll true there.
NEWWWW VIDEEEEOOOOO. Everyday… today.
Nneeeewwwwwww
What's the point of upgrading the brakes Matt? You never drive anywhere in the Porsche....
Haha I actually do when it’s working.
People that stop in the middle of a moving street to let others out, are morons. Great cause for accidents and increased traffic
Not when traffic is basically stop before and afterwards.
@@matt13ross sure that helps. It it’s still a terrible habit to start doing and again it’s unsafe
Please choose a different color other than yellow😭 so many close that look so good and complement this car! PLEASE NOT YELLOW
No I love the yellow! It’s different. Plus a color change kills the value.
Bro, you've gotta wrap this thing.
No no, new paint!
@@matt13ross Are you going with the original yellow still? Do you have plans for coilovers?
Yellow yes. Coils going to happen, not sure which brand yet.
@@matt13ross Love it, great garage setup too
Great video. Cool to see you getting this stuff from sponsors.
P.S. When are we (we = we're all in this together now) going to solve the passenger window issue? 🥲
When I don’t have the urge to take a hammer to it lol.
